Citrus was living alone in an abandoned house with no doors or windows. We trapped her, and she got very upset. Citrus was growling for many many days, and did not allow any handling. She finally came around to trust us, and is now a loving sweetheart. Citrus wants an understanding foster-to-adopt home, who wants to baby her. She is estimated to be 2-4 years old, and a mix between English Bulldog and Boxer. Citrus has a classic cautious and disapproving yet personable English Bulldog personality, and the silly play style of a Boxer. We are looking for a household without children for Citrus. Leashed walks are fine, she does not require a fenced in yard. Citrus has dog friends at the shelter - but incorporating her into a home dynamic with other dogs will take weeks. He is an extremely friendly guy who really wants to be close to you and soak up all the attention. He is a bit socially awkward, though, and seems like he may not have had much experience interacting with people. He has some funny, uncoordinated ways of showing affection, sometimes contorting himself as he leans into you or simply flopping down beside you instead of sitting.-When he gets overly excited, he sometimes gets a little carried away with his affection and starts gently exploring your hands with his mouth. It’s more soft gumming than anything, and he responds well to gentle verbal redirection. I tried introducing a toy, but he wasn’t quite sure what he was supposed to do with it. 😆-He’s very food motivated, although he hasn’t quite mastered the art of taking treats from your hand and can be a little clumsy about it. He doesn’t know sit yet, but he’s eager for snacks and takes them fairly gently. He also gives kisses and occasional little chin nibbles. There were a few moments when he seemed sensitive about having his head touched, too. He needs a slow approach.-He’s an awkward, affectionate sweetheart who seems a little unsure of how all this people stuff works. New animals are posted daily, so please let us know if another furry friend peaks your interest (there is no need to fill out a second application)! Fill out the application completely. Every question must be answered, and it must be signed.-Applicants must be 21+ years old and live within a 100-mile radius of our shelter at 22415 Groesbeck Hwy, Warren 48089.-You must identify at least 1 animal that you are interested in.-Once your application is received, it will be assigned to one of our volunteer Adoption Counselors who will follow-up with the applicant who is the best fit within a few days, or to discuss other options. It could take up to a couple of weeks for you to receive a final disposition on your application so there is no need to check on the status.-Introductions will be scheduled by appointment only, 30 minutes per appointment. The entire household, including current dogs, must be present for the appointment. (Note: Please do not bring your dogs if you are meeting cats!). Thanks to his selflessness and her rescuer’s bravery, Harper is safe — and now she’s ready for a home filled with love and security. Harper is about a year old, curious, and bursting with personality. She’s learning fast — mastering potty training, sleeping quietly in her crate, and adjusting to the comforts of indoor life. She’s gentle, affectionate, and happiest near her people, especially kids. She loves her toys, enjoys exploring outside, and will army crawl right into your lap for love.
