Darwin is a very sweet and happy boy. He walks well on a leash without the need for a gentle leader, is good with large and small dogs. He loves to play! When crated at foster home, he was calm and relaxed. He did have another dog in the same area who was also crated. Slept all night without any accidents whether in crate or loose. Responded well to house training. Great house manners. He is a medium size - perfect for travel and epic adventures. Citrus was living alone in an abandoned house with no doors or windows. We trapped her, and she got very upset. Citrus was growling for many many days, and did not allow any handling. She finally came around to trust us, and is now a loving sweetheart. Citrus wants an understanding foster-to-adopt home, who wants to baby her. She is estimated to be 2-4 years old, and a mix between English Bulldog and Boxer. Citrus has a classic cautious and disapproving yet personable English Bulldog personality, and the silly play style of a Boxer. We are looking for a household without children for Citrus. Leashed walks are fine, she does not require a fenced in yard. Citrus has dog friends at the shelter - but incorporating her into a home dynamic with other dogs will take weeks. June A18571442 lb. spayed female, approx 2 years old -This peanut can be submissive and nervous in new situations-She will army crawled and flipped over to give you her belly-She wouldn’t take treats initially but once comfortable she decided they were yummy! She knows how to sit and she takes snacks very nicely.-She loves to curl up close for cuddles-She wasn’t interested in a tennis ball which seemed to scare her but she did perk up with a stuffie. She started pouncing around on it and played tug with me for a little bit. I think she’ll be playful once she’s more comfortable.-She gives a few little kisses-She just needs a little time and patience to come around-Walks decent on leash-Seems non reactive to dogs nearby and may do well living with a fur sibling after slow and proper intros Unknown behavior with dogs/cats/kids •Meet all of our adoptable pets on our website friendsofdacc.org/adopt •Please keep in mind that the shelter can be a very stressful environment. •Studies show that a minimum of 3 days decompression drastically lower stress hormones and allow the dog to show more personality after they have settled in. •There is a suggested donation of $100 for our dogs, payable by cash, check or through paypal at the time of the adoption. •To meet them please go to front door and a DACC staff member will assist you with adoption or fostering. **And when coming to meet one of our dogs, please bring all the humans with you, but leave any current dogs at home. Riley 5 years old. Pit Terrier/Coonhound Mix Lovable Couch Potato! Meet Riley. My wife and I adopted Riley as a puppy in 2021 from a local rescue in Berkley MI. Snuggle bug and absolute couch potato. She is somewhat shy at first but once she warms up to you she will be your best friend. Riley is fully house/potty trained. Up to date on all shots and vaccinations and is very healthy. No medications or dietary needs. She is spayed. Also knows basic commands such as sit, down, and crate. She does not beg or counter surf. We have made the difficult decision to re-home Riley because she does not do well with small children. She is tolerable of our other dog, but overall we think she would do best in a child-free and pet-free home. Riley will thrive in a quieter environment with a fenced backyard as she loves to explore! While our hearts are broken to have to re-home her, we feel that this will be a positive move that will put her into a more comfortable environment.

At just 1 year old, she’s still discovering the world — and she does it all with her stunning mismatched eyes, one blue and one green. She loves playing with other dogs and has all the makings of a wonderful companion. When she first arrived, Athena was scared of everything — the loud shelter, new people, passing cars, even the wind. With patient volunteer support, she’s learning she’s safe, and her sassy, silly side is starting to shine. She’s not a fan of the cold and will snort her displeasure before running back to warmth, but she’s also incredibly affectionate. Sit on the ground with her, and she’ll climb right into your arms. Athena is still figuring out how to trust and feel secure, and she needs a home willing to guide her with patience and kindness. With the right person, she’ll blossom into the loving, loyal companion she’s meant to be. He’s happiest when he’s pressed up against you on the couch or trailing behind you from room to room like a very cute shadow. He bonds deeply and loves being close to his person. He’s also a strong boy with big enthusiasm, so he’ll need someone who can guide him with calm consistency. When he gets that “bull in a china shop” burst of excitement, he responds best with patient but firm boundaries (and training treats). He does well with other dogs and genuinely enjoys playtime, though his excitement can come with some enthusiastic body-checks. Any dog friends would need to be comfortable with that level of energy. And he also gets a bit of FOMO when other dogs are getting attention, he’ll nudge his way in for his share of the love. He usually ignores cats completely or calmly observes their antics. Hoss has been neutered, vaccinated and heartworm tested.
