Story
Very sweet boy. Walks well on a leash without the need for a gentle leader, is good with large and small dogs. When crated at foster home, he was calm and relaxed. He did have another dog in the same area who was also crated. Slept all night without any accidents whether in crate or loose. Responded well to house training. Story
Citrus was living alone in an abandoned house with no doors or windows. We trapped her, and she got very upset. Citrus was growling for many many days, and did not allow any handling. She finally came around to trust us, and is now a loving sweetheart. Citrus wants an understanding foster-to-adopt home, who wants to baby her. She is estimated to be 2-4 years old, and a mix between English Bulldog and Boxer. Citrus has a classic cautious and disapproving yet personable English Bulldog personality, and the silly play style of a Boxer. We are looking for a household without children for Citrus. Leashed walks are fine, she does not require a fenced in yard. Citrus has dog friends at the shelter - but incorporating her into a home dynamic with other dogs will take weeks. If you are up for it, we can discuss. We cover all needed vet care. The adoption fee is $275. Please apply through our website: rebeldogsdetroit.com/applytoadopt

Story
Meet Winston!Winston is an approximately 3-year-old mixed breed boy with the most handsome chocolate brown coloring that makes us think there may be some chocolate Lab in his family tree. With his wide-eyed expressions and calm personality, Winston has a way of making everyone around him smile. This sweet guy absolutely loves spending time outdoors. Whether he’s walking with his nose to the ground tracking every interesting scent or sniffing the breeze with his nose up in the air, Winston is happiest exploring the world around him. Winston is currently more interested in exploring his surroundings than playing with toys when he`s out and about, though he does enjoy settling down with a good chew toy while relaxing indoors. He also has adorable little bursts of zoomies that show off his playful side and are always fun to watch! He has done very well playing with other dogs here at the rescue, though as always, proper introductions are important. Winston would do best in a home with children 12 years and older. One thing we really love about Winston is how clean and tidy he keeps his kennel, which makes us think he will transition nicely into home life and likely be easy to house train. If you’re looking for a loyal companion to join you on walks, outdoor adventures, and cozy evenings after a day of exploring, Winston may just be your perfect match.-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------If you would like to meet Winston, please submit an application for him on our website https://www.friendsofmichigan.org/adoptable-dogs. He is neutered, up to date on all age appropriate vaccines, heartworm negative, microchipped, and on monthly flea, tick, and heartworm prevention. His adoption fee is $250, which helps cover the cost of the medical care he has received.**Please note that the breed listed for each of our dogs is a rough estimate unless DNA results are provided in their Bio. All strays have rough estimates of their age based on the condition of their teeth. Each dog is different, so each adoption is different. Our adoption process might require multiple visits to the shelter before our dogs can go home. Or they may be ready on the first visit. It really depends on the individual dog and the potential adopters. Once we receive your application, the Dog Staff will contact you to discuss meeting our dogs.

Story
Meet Dutchess- The most sweetest of old ladies. She has a heart of gold and is looking for a nice place to live out her golden years. Due to her older age she would do best in a low-traffic environment where she can focus on getting her beauty sleep and soaking up love and affection. Dutchess is a wonderful lady who could use a home that is experienced with senior dogs and the special care required to keep them comfortable. If you have a soft spot for the grey muzzled friends, then come meet this sweetheart today and help give her the retirement home of her dreams! An ideal home:Recommend meeting children

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Meet Twig, our newest resident at the Mikey & Me Kennels for Happy Days Rescue.  Twig is a smaller Boxer Mix with a beautiful brindled coat, he is estimated to be 2-3 years old, and he weighs about 30 pounds. Twig’s short life is a story of survival and he so very much deserves to be loved. Even when he was without food, he approached people nicely, looking for someone to help him.  Twig is slightly shy when meeting new people but quickly warms up and he looks up at you with his soulful brown eyes. He has a very sweet personality, he loves going outside for walks, and he is calm when walking by the other kennels. I believe he will make a loyal and loving companion for someone looking to reciprocate those qualities.  Twig has already had a physical exam, routine bloodwork, HW test, fecal exam, and he’s been fully vaccinated. All of his important tests were negative other than having to clean out his ears. He is scheduled to be neutered on Monday, June 29th.  If you’d like to meet Twig, please submit an adoption application under his name at  happydaysdogandcatrescue.org . Or a quick-meet application can be submitted at Mikeyandme.org.  Let’s work together to help this sweet boy find his person or family. I would recommend kids aged 12 and up only because he takes treats quickly. I’m teaching him “gentle“ and “take it nice” and he’s already learning to follow my lead. ❤️   Happy Days Dog and Cat Rescue microchips all dogs and cats before adoption. Microchips are implanted between the shoulder blades and are another form of identification should the animal get lost. The microchips are registered to    Happy Days Dog and Cat Rescue. The adopter's information is added once the adoption is complete. The adopter is responsible for a $19.99/Year registration fee or a $45.00/Lifetime registration fee to change information.    Dogs and Cats still need to have collar with tags should they get lost.  Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.July 5, 2026, 4:00 pm

Story
Riley 5 years old. Pit Terrier/Coonhound Mix Lovable Couch Potato! Meet Riley. My wife and I adopted Riley as a puppy in 2021 from a local rescue in Berkley MI. Snuggle bug and absolute couch potato. She is somewhat shy at first but once she warms up to you she will be your best friend. Riley is fully house/potty trained. Up to date on all shots and vaccinations and is very healthy. No medications or dietary needs. She is spayed. Also knows basic commands such as sit, down, and crate. She does not beg or counter surf. We have made the difficult decision to re-home Riley because she does not do well with small children. She is tolerable of our other dog, but overall we think she would do best in a child-free and pet-free home. Riley will thrive in a quieter environment with a fenced backyard as she loves to explore! While our hearts are broken to have to re-home her, we feel that this will be a positive move that will put her into a more comfortable environment.

Story
***Video of her can be seen on our Facebook page here and here.*** Athena is a sweet, playful young pit bull mix who was found running alone with no one coming to claim her. At just 1 year old, she’s still discovering the world — and she does it all with her stunning mismatched eyes, one blue and one green. She loves playing with other dogs and has all the makings of a wonderful companion. When she first arrived, Athena was scared of everything — the loud shelter, new people, passing cars, even the wind. With patient volunteer support, she’s learning she’s safe, and her sassy, silly side is starting to shine. She’s not a fan of the cold and will snort her displeasure before running back to warmth, but she’s also incredibly affectionate. Sit on the ground with her, and she’ll climb right into your arms. Athena is still figuring out how to trust and feel secure, and she needs a home willing to guide her with patience and kindness. With the right person, she’ll blossom into the loving, loyal companion she’s meant to be. IS THIS DOG SAFE WITH CATS? There is almost always an acclimation period when a new pet joins the household. We are happy to suggest a few ways to ease the transition. If one of our dogs is reported to have lived with cats previously, that will be indicated in the dog's description! IS THIS DOG GOOD WITH OTHER DOGS? No dog loves every other dog, just as humans do not like every other human they meet. A proper introduction (meet and greet) would be required as part of our application process. IS THIS DOG GOOD WITH CHILDREN? The better question is how the children have been taught to handle animals. A dog will respond negatively if he/she is not being handled properly. We can offer suggestions on how to teach children to interact with dogs and pay attention to body language. Young children should never be left unsupervised with new dogs. WHY IS THIS DOG IN THE SHELTER? The top reasons dogs are given up are: Moving without considering the needs of the pets Death of the owner with no plan in place for the pets Previous owner did not provide appropriate training Owner did not consider the lifespan of a dog Owner did not consider the cost of providing for a dog
