Story
Winfield Jack is a handsome brindle mix pup who loves belly rubs and snuggle time! He's a 5 year old sweet boy who really enjoys lounging and going for walks! He is housetrained, knows some basic commands and is crate trained but does great free roaming in the house. He is not destructive and doesn't chew! He sleeps all night on his dog bed and is happy as can be. He knows basic commands like “sit” and taking treats gently. He is good with other dogs, but he hasn't been around cats; he's nervous around young children so we recommend no kids. He's a pretty chill dog, and could definitely use more time going for walks and improving his on leash skills. He makes a great copilot going for car rides and would enjoy time out with his person experiencing the world. He'd love a foster or furever home that will work with him on socializing, and give him opportunities to exercise and be the amazing dog we know he is! He would do fine in a home with or without a yard; he's currently with a foster with an electric fence and he does understand boundaries. Winfield Jack likes his personal space until he gets to know you. Once he trusts you, he will give you lots of kisses, love and cuddles! He'd love to meet someone who wants to be his best friend. If you’d like to meet Winfield Jack, please apply to adopt him!   December 7, 2023, 7:12 pm

Story
Strudel aka Talon, is a boxer mix who is very intelligent and has loads of personality. Her favorite things are trying to catch water from the water hose, a Kong full of peanut butter, and playing fetch. She loves snuggles, sunning in the backyard, digging in the sandbox and playing in the water. She is about 1 1/2 years old and is very high energy. She does well in a crate for several hours, but after about 6 hours she is ready to get out to run and play. Strudel is house-trained and is great free-roaming the house and doesn’t chew or make a mess. She actually prefers to sleep in bed or on the couch at night. She loves her people especially the kids (ages 6-19). Strudel walks on a leash but needs a lot of guidance and redirecting, leash training will definitely be needed for her and her humans. Strudel is very excitable when she meets new people. Her body language says “come and play with me”, but she barks at strangers which can be pretty intimidating. Thankfully, she moves past the barking very quickly once she knows you will be nice to her. Continued training and socializing her with others will help her feel more calm when strangers approach. Strudel will need a fenced yard and would do great with a large, playful dog in the home that matches her energy level. Her foster family has cats and while Strudel has no prey drive, she does chase them to play; the cats do not like that at all, so we will have to say no cats for her. She is great with kids but we recommend kids 6 or older because of her playful nature. She really needs an active family or person who wants to take her for walks, hiking, running or just playing fetch in the yard. She can be a couch potato but must have a release for her energy. She is a really happy girl who would love to find her special person or family! If you’d like me meet Strudel, apply at: www.luckychancerescue.com/adoption-applicationDecember 7, 2023, 7:12 pm

Barrett is handsome and very photogenic! He is a friendly guy who is good with children and other dogs. He enjoys playing in the yard and likes to roll on his back in the grass. Ropes and frisbees are his favorite toys; sit and shake are commands he knows. Barrett is 8 years old and weighs 65 pounds. The adoption fee for adult dogs, seven months and older, is $250. All pets are microchipped, up to date on vaccines, and will be altered prior to adoption. If you are interested in meeting Barrett, please stop by the shelter during open hours or complete an adoption application on our website. If you currently have a dog at home, we recommend bringing it to meet Barrett.helpingstrays.orgBarrett has heartworms and will be starting treatment soon. He would greatly benefit from having a calm home to recuperate in rather than trying to rest in a noisy and stressful shelter environment. If you would like to provide a foster home during Barrett's heartworm treatment, Helping Strays will provide everything you need; the medical care, crate, food, etc. Barrett can still be adopted but will need to come back to the shelter periodically to complete his treatment which is covered in the adoption fee.

Story
Things Maple loves: - Loves attention and people- Can be around other dogs, people (including kids) and cats. Would recommend supervision for younger kids and cats as she is still learning- Loves going on hikes/long walks at the park - Loves training and daycare- Puzzle toys, treat dispensers, snuffle mats and kongs/lick mats- Dog safe fruits, veggies, cheese, etc. - Will sleep in a covered crate (just to avoid distractions)- Does not damage beds inside crate and does not try to escape- Loves pup cups and car rides. Does not get car sick. But does need to be restrained (dog seat belt)Commands/Tricks Maple knows: - Sit- Down- Paw/High Five- Wait - Leave it/Drop it/Take it (work in progress)- Walks decently on a leash (but will pull if she sees small animals)- Go to bed (crate)- Go to place (elevated bed/mat) - Look at me- Touch (touch hand target) Maple has been in obedience training which Helping Strays provides at no charge to adopters. Her new adopters should continue working on obedience training to maintain commands and manners that she has learned. Maple is an active girl and would benefit from a family who will take her on daily walks and outings to drain her energy. She would be great for dog sports.Maple can jump pretty high and a 6-foot fence is recommended to avoid any escaping. She is sensitive to sounds and can bark to alert what she doesn't recognize.Maple is 7 months old and weighs approx. 45 pounds.Location: Foster homeThe adoption fee for adult dogs, seven months and older, is $250. All pets are microchipped, up to date on vaccines, and will be altered prior to adoption. Wilbur was surrendered by a family who could no longer care for him due to a divorce and a potential move. Wilbur previously lived with young kids and another dog, he did great. Wilbur is playful, and full of personality. He is such a goofball, one of his quirks is that hats make him nervous. Wilbur has a gorgeous chocolate coat with beautiful golden eyes that will melt you, such a good looking boy!
