Story
Billy is still looking for a family to call his own, and we know the right people are out there for him. Yes, he has a few special needs — but don’t let that scare you away. Billy is a wonderful dog who deserves the same love, comfort, and family as any other pup. To help him find his perfect match, we are waiving his adoption fee for an approved adopter! Billy is an approximately 2&#226&#128&#145year&#226&#128&#145old, 35&#226&#128&#145pound Boxer mix with a giant heart and an even bigger goofy grin. Though he’s mostly blind and partially deaf, he approaches life with curiosity, bravery, and a cheerful spirit. He’s learning his way around his foster home, working on potty training, and making progress every single day. His determination is incredible. He enjoys the company of other dogs, though he prefers to keep his food and toys to himself — understandable given his past as a dog that was starved, but this is easily managed by feeding him in his crate. He also has a wonderful trainer helping him build confidence, learn new skills, and continue blossoming into the amazing dog he’s meant to be. Billy was also diagnosed with hypoparathyroidism, a condition that affects calcium levels, but the great news is that it’s very manageable. He simply takes one inexpensive pill each day (about $14 a month!), and we’re even covering his first year of medication for his adopter. Billy would thrive in a patient, loving home that will support him as he settles in and continues learning. He has so much love to give — he just needs someone willing to see how special he truly is. If you think Billy might be your guy, please apply to meet him. He’s ready to give his whole heart to his forever family. WWW.4PAWS4RESCUE.COMJanuary 27, 2026, 8:44 pm

Yesterday marked Rosie's 1 year anniversary being with us. That's 365 days she's waited for a forever home. Although her foster mom loves her she'd love even more Rosie finding her family. Please share our sweet girl! Rosie is a 4-5 year old boxer/pittie mix who is as sweet as they come. She loves all people and especially adores children. She would do best as an only pet (no dogs or cats) and will offer unconditional love, greetings with toys, and tail wags. She’s completely house trained, never having a single accident since rescued, just an all around great girl. If you’re looking to add an incredibly loving pup to your home please fill out an application.   Her adoption fee has been sponsored for an approved application! Story
Hey there, I’m Susie! I’m a 4-year-old Bully mix with that classic look — chonky, short, and strong! Right now, I’m hanging out in a foster home where I’ve been learning all sorts of good manners. I even graduated from a 7-week basic obedience class (I’m pretty proud of that!) and my awesome foster keeps helping me learn new things every day so I can be the best doggo I can be. I’ve got a big personality — loving, loyal, and just the right amount of sassy. I’m not a fan of cats, and I can be a bit particular about other dogs, so I’d probably do best as your one and only pet. But trust me, I’ve got enough love to fill your whole home! If you’re looking for a sweet, spunky girl who’s ready to make you smile every day, I think we’d be a perfect match! If you're interested in adopting me, fill out an adoption application online at www.polkcountyhumanesociety.org/adopt where you will also find a link to reserve me for an appointment. Some pets are in foster homes or may already have an appointment scheduled, so the appointment is important to make sure I will be available to meet you when you come. Polk County Humane Society is located in Bolivar, Missouri, but also makes transports to the Denver, CO, Des Moines, IA and St. Louis areas twice monthly. For potential adopters in those areas, we can do a virtual visit using FaceTime or another app. Just request an appointment using the same link, but note that you want the visit to be virtual. We will call you at the time of the visit once it is confirmed. For long distance transports to Colorado and Iowa, there is an additional $100 fee to cover the cost of the transport ($65) and a health certificate from a veterinarian ($35). For transports to St. Louis, the additional fee is $50 to help cover gas. Going that last mile home for our sweet pets! All of our pets are neutered or spayed, have vaccinations appropriate for their age, treated with flea/tick/heartworm prevention, dewormed and dogs are also microchipped. #adoptdontshop ##2204969##

Story
Hi! My name is Raspberry Beret! I'm a 2 year old, happy-go-lucky Pitbull mix. My foster Mom tells me I'm a shy but sweet, eager to please girl that loves to PLAY, so I NEED another large active dog in my new home!   I also love playing with toys and chewing on nylabones, but I REALLY love running through the back yard. I get along with my 4-legged foster siblings, and I would do best with a submissive, tolerant male dog that really enjoys playing. I really need a similar size very active dog in the home. Due to my activity level, I'm too much for a smaller dog. I'm a young lady with a LOT of energy to burn and need a back yard in my forever home or a very active person that likes to walk or hike on a regular basis. And I can jump really high so a 6 foot fence would be ideal. I'm also potty trained and after a day of play I do good in my crate at night and actually prefer to sleep in the crate, keeps me out of trouble.    Did I mention that I love to play!?! But what I love most is SNUGGLING (after we've gotten to know each other of course!)!     I would love to become the newest member of a family that will include me in their activities. If you like snuggling after going on new adventures together, fill out an application and my foster Mom will contact you so we can meet! If you are interested, complete the  Adoption Application  on our website at  www.NeedyPaws.org  and we will contact you.  Adopters must live within an hour’s drive of St. Louis, MO. Raspberry Beret’s adoption fee is $295.00, which includes up-to-date vaccinations, heartworm testing and preventative, spay/neuter and microchip. We are a 100% foster-based rescue and all of our dogs live in approved foster homes. We are dedicated to finding the best Forever Homes, and will perform home visits and conduct veterinarian and reference checks for each potential adopter. Story
“Meet Weston, the ultimate cuddle bug with a heart that’s all in. If you’re looking for a devoted, affectionate companion who believes love can never be overdone, Weston might just be your perfect match. This sweet boy came from a rural shelter and is now experiencing the world with fresh eyes, ready to soak up all the love and safety a real home can offer. He’s a world-class snuggler who thinks the best place to be is right on top of his person. If physical touch is your love language, Weston speaks it fluently. Weston is just past the puppy stage, likely a little over a year old, and he’s already mastered the basics like potty training. He still carries that joyful, romping energy of adolescence and is working hard on making good choices about what not to chew, though he’ll tell you that tissues in the trash are practically irresistible. A variety of toys and some gentle redirection go a long way with him. He’s a fast learner who wants nothing more than to make his person proud. Weston looks to his human for approval and reassurance, and that deep bond is one of his most special qualities. Once he chooses you, he chooses you with his whole heart. Weston is very timid with new people and new sounds. He startles easily at things like loud noises or unfamiliar sights. But treats, patience, and time help him open up. On walks, he’s gaining confidence every day. He loves the adventure of being outside — chasing squirrels, exploring new smells — even if some things still spook him. Because he’s had difficulty safely sharing food and toys with other dogs, Weston will do best as the only dog in his home. He’s also a bit anxious when his person leaves, but peanut butter Kongs are his go-to comfort item and help him settle. He’s great in a fenced yard and unfazed by barking neighbor dogs. He’d be equally happy in an apartment, as long as he has a chance to burn off his puppy energy with playtime and walks. He loves to chase balls, even if he hasn’t quite figured out the “bring it back” part yet. Weston is looking for a quiet, patient home with people who understand that shy, sensitive dogs blossom with love and consistency. In return, he will give you unwavering devotion, endless cuddles, and the kind of companionship that fills your days with warmth. Loving Weston is incredibly rewarding, and he’s ready to give his whole heart to someone who will cherish him right back.”   If interested, please  complete the  Adoption Application  on our website at  www.NeedyPaws.org  and we will contact you.  Adopters must live within an hour’s drive of St. Louis, MO.
