Story
Big Mac was rescued from a gas station parking lot when he was just weened, and he has been the sweetest little guy ever since. He is super smart, has been easy to train and he is very good on a leash. Mac is a high energy dog that can jump tall buildings in a single bound. He loves other dogs and is very vocal about it. He sounds big and mean but that is just the way he talks when he is excited. He is very good with kids and cats but will chase a cat if it doesn't stand its ground. He loves to play fetch; you throw but no take. His weird trait is that when you ask him to sit he will walk to the other side of the room before he sits, I don't know why he does that. He really is the best little dude, and he has been loved and is very loving.

Story
We adopted Zoey at 12 weeks old from a rescue. She immediately got along with our older dog, a yellow lab mix. She is highly motivated by food and did very well in puppy training at No Leash Needed. We have a son with special needs that yells when she barks. She is not a constant barker, but when she does it upsets our son. He has thrown items when the dog has barked as well. Zoey really is a good dog, she is just no longer a good fit for our home. We have tried bark collars and training. She now knows the command “quiet” when she barks, but at that point it is usually too late, our son has already gotten upset at the first bark.

Story
I'm a beautiful girl. I was said to be boxer, but might be some sort of bully mix. I'm one of those sweet ones. My litter of puppies are the white paint shades litter. I lost a lot of weight getting them grown, but I'm recovered now. I'll be someone's best lover girle ever. It that someone you? If you're interested in adopting me, fill out an adoption application online at www.polkcountyhumanesociety.org/adopt where you will also find a link to reserve me for an appointment. Some pets are in foster homes or may already have an appointment scheduled, so the appointment is important to make sure I will be available to meet you when you come. Polk County Humane Society is located in Bolivar, Missouri, but also makes transports to the Denver, CO, Des Moines, IA and St. Louis areas twice monthly. For potential adopters in those areas, we can do a virtual visit using FaceTime or another app. Just request an appointment using the same link, but note that you want the visit to be virtual. We will call you at the time of the visit once it is confirmed. For long distance transports to Colorado and Iowa, there is an additional $100 fee to cover the cost of the transport ($65) and a health certificate from a veterinarian ($35). For transports to St. Louis, the additional fee is $50 to help cover gas. Going that last mile home for our sweet pets! All of our pets are neutered or spayed, have vaccinations appropriate for their age, treated with flea/tick/heartworm prevention, dewormed and dogs are also microchipped. #adoptdontshop ##2095201##

Story
Hi there, I'm Trooper! Despite my name, I'm all about peace, love, and fun. I'm a friendly guy who loves to meet new people and make friends. I'm gentle with everyone I meet and I've got a heart full of sweetness. I'm also pretty smart - I've learned lots of tricks and commands in my time here. Playtime is my favorite, whether it's a game of fetch or a good old belly rub. I'm loyal to a fault and once I've made a friend, I stick by them no matter what. I may have been a stray once, but I'm ready to find my forever home. Adopt me and you'll have a friend who will love you unconditionally, keep you entertained with my playful antics, and always be there to brighten your day. Story
Wyat is a sweet and loving dog. He loves a good spot for napping, blankets in the winter and t-shirts or sweaters. He is non-destructive. He is good with other dogs. Could use more training on a leash. We really love him and his sweet personality. He has a loud bark but is not aggressive to people and actually loves to meet new people. He has basic commands like sit, shake, down, off, leave-it and “got out of here” lol. Sleeps most of the day but very athletic and fast outside. Would love a fenced yard but not a deal breaker. His favorite food is peanut butter but would not turn down whipped cream or any dropped food. He is patient and good with kids, including babies.

Story
Rocket is a VERY attached and affection boy. He's shy and nervous around people he doesn't know so it will take him some time to warm up, giving him space helps him get more comfortable a bit quicker. He's about 90 lbs last he went to the vet so you will need to be strong to walk him since he does tend to tug. He's a submissive dog so if you have a dog that prefers to be alpha around the house he can easily be bullied so I would not suggest him for that environment. As there has been a couple of times people have returned him because their dog was aggressive with him. Rocket loves to talk and have conversations with you, so please engage with him as he loves it. But at times he can be loud, when it comes to visitors he will bark. He will not approach as he's a nervous boy and prefers to have space before approaching. Rocket will do best in a very loving and active home with lots of attention.

Story
Max was born here at Country Acres Rescue on October 9, 2023. He had NINE brothers and ONE sister. His Mama, Gabby, was transferred from an Animal Control with no staff or air conditioning back in September; we had NO idea she was pregnant, let alone pregnant with ten puppies! What a surprise! Gabby was such a good Mama; very attentive, loving, protective and provided plenty of milk for each baby - all ten pups are plump and HEALTHY. Max is such a happy, energetic, cutie-pie! Max loves other dogs, such a good playmate!!! Max would do best in a home with older children. He knows how to sit, stay and lay down. He is ready for his chance at a loving home. Please call CAR at 636-227-1919 to inquire more on how to adopt Max!
