Story
Meet Dukota — a handsome Boxer boy with the perfect mix of goofy charm and laid-back companionship! While Boxers are known for their endless energy, Dukota is a little more mellow than most of his breed. He still loves getting out for long walks, playtime, and consistent exercise, but he’s just as happy relaxing by your side afterward. This athletic guy has a playful personality that will keep you smiling, whether he’s making silly faces, showing off his zoomies, or leaning in for affection. Dukota thrives in a calm, predictable home where he can feel comfortable and settled. Because he prefers a quieter environment, he would do best with older children or in an adult-only home.Dukota can be selective with his canine friends and is reactive to some dogs. However, he previously lived successfully with other dogs and did well with them. He would likely do best either as the only dog in the home or with calm, friendly dogs given slow and proper introductions. If you’re looking for a loyal companion with a goofy streak and a heart full of love, Dukota may just be your perfect match! If you are interested in meeting Dukota, the shelter is open Monday through Saturday, 11 am – 6 pm, Sunday 11 am-4 pm (Summer Hours). If you’d like to schedule an appointment, check out the pets’ profile on our website at newberganimals.com to fill out an application and email it to frontdesk@newberganimals.com.Due to COVID-19, we are currently only open by appointment. Story
Thea is such a resilient sweetheart who hasn't let her misfortune dim her shine. She has a loving and happy personality and is a dog that is easy to live with. * Because she is missing a front leg, she will do best in a home without a lot of stairs to navigate. Thea had a loving home since she was a puppy, but a year ago, her owner rehomed her during a divorce and Thea landed with an elderly person who hoards dogs. Thea lived in that home for the past year and when the elderly owner went into assisted living, there were 10 dogs of all sizes living in squalor in the home. We were asked to help Thea and some of the other dogs. Sadly, Thea had a broken leg from an unknown cause. The leg needed to be amputated but she is adjusting to being a tripod very well! She is also so grateful to be in a foster home with a soft bed, clean surroundings, and regular care. - 50 pounds and approximately 5.5 years old - Possibly a Boxer/American Staffordshire mix. She has a shorter nose on that adorable little boxy face of hers. - We are over the moon with Thea's temperament and personality. She is lower to medium energy, has nice manners, and is a total joy to be around. - Excellent with other dogs and has lived with both large and small dogs of both sexes. - Good with children and has previously lived with an infant and young children in her original how and was always very loving and tolerant. - Polite meeting an angry cat and did not chase when the cat ran away. - Crate trained - Potty trained - Would be happy with short walks in the neighborhood. She may not be a dog that can go longer distances due to missing her front leg. But she hops around well for shorter distances. She will need to be lifted into a vehicle to go places. She could very well be a happy homebody dog for someone that can only offer short walks near their home. - Not reactive on leash - Quiet and not vocal - Enjoys cuddling and lounging around on soft beds and the couch Thea is spayed, vaccinated, microchipped, dewormed, heartworm tested negative and current on flea/tick/heartworm prevention. Her adoption fee includes a free wellness exam at one of our partner veterinary clinics in Oregon City, Milwaukie, Tulatin or Portland. $200 adoption fee Fostered in Vancouver, Washington with a dog trainer APPLY TO ADOPT THEA ON OUR WEBSITE: WWW.AGAVEDOGS.ORG

Story
Viola is available through Project POOCH. If you are interested in adoption, learn more and submit an application at pooch.org/viola Angel, sweet, perfect, demon, cuddly, goofy, silly, lovable, loyal, playful, exuberant, beautiful, amazing eyes, best friend forever—these are all words and phrases that apply to Miss Viola. At 8 months old she is still very much a puppy and learning every day. We see the progress she has made during her time at POOCH. She knows her basic cues—her sit is on point!—She walks well on leash, makes friends easily, loves to play with other dogs, and has learned to self-soothe when left alone. Viola is very smart and can learn quickly. She is going to need someone who wants to continue the work we have started with her. She's very food-motivated and eager to learn. If you are willing to put the time into raising a teenager, you are going to end up with a best friend for life. Viola does really well with her dog friends at POOCH, and she could be a great addition to a dog home. When going on adventures, Viola would love to be included! She is a brave girl who is gaining confidence in the world. If you’re looking for a buddy to join your adventures, she would be an excellent choice. Continue building her confidence, and you’ll have an amazing hiking partner as she has the energy to get up and go, but can settle for the drive back home. Like any puppy, Viola would benefit from continued training classes as she grows. Not only will that help her in her ‘teenage’ phase, but it can help a bond form! She could possibly blossom in dog sports or be a trick champion, but needs a partner to do so. If you’re looking for a couch potato, she is probably not the puppy you need. Project POOCH will provide 3 1-hour sessions with a Project POOCH dog trainer (in person if you live within a 1-hour radius of Woodburn, or virtually if you live farther out). Our Adoption process includes a meet & greet at our kennel inside Maclaren Youth Correctional Facility, and a home/overnight visit, where we bring Viola to you, help you set up your home for her, and she can stay with you for 1 night to 2 weeks to see if she is a good fit for you. We want to help setup Viola to be a successful addition to your home. Interested? https://www.pooch.org/adoption-application
