We found Shelby, at the Multnomah County Animal Shelter about a year and a half ago. She had been abused, abandoned, and left feral (for an assumed 6 months) by her previous owners before being rescued. Due to this traumatic past, she has “Small Animal Issues” and tends to be extremely dominant in situations around them. Never biting, but aggressively assertive and tends to nip. She has never drawn blood, nor has she bitten a human. She is very loving, kind, and gentle. Especially around children. Our 7y.o. granddaughter adores her, and Shelby reciprocates that emotion. HI - I'M RILEY, and I'm looking for a special adopter! ! I'm a 3-year-old Boxer-Shepherd mix in need of a foster or forever home. I was rescued from a California shelter where I was pretty terrified - I sat in the back and looked at people as they walked by. Now, whenever I go someplace new, I'm scared all over again, until I really bond with my person. I have done fine with other dogs so far, but I need someone who can take me in and work with me to help me become confident and secure. I weigh about 50-55 lbs. When it comes to other dogs, Ann Marie is very much a “thank you, but I already have my people” kind of girl. She’s confident, socially appropriate, and has shown respectful greetings and easy leash manners around other dogs, but she isn’t particularly interested in doggy friendships or chaotic playgroups. Her behavior team described her as more of a roamer who prefers calm energy and personal space. Because of that, Ann Marie would likely be happiest as the only dog in the home where she can fully relax and soak up all the attention. However, with the right match, she may also do well with a calm, confident, lower-energy male dog who respects boundaries and doesn’t try to constantly engage her. If there’s already another dog in the home, her rescue team would want a trainer discussion beforehand to help ensure it’s the right fit for everyone involved. She has also done well around cats, but she would do best with calm, dog-savvy kitties who mostly keep to themselves. Ann Marie isn’t looking for a feline wrestling partner, so playful cats who want to zoom around, swat at her, or constantly get in her face probably wouldn’t be her style. A mellow, respectful cat companion would be much more her speed. Kenji Cowboy has that sweet, slightly bashful charm that makes you want to earn your way into his heart and inner circle. He is gentle, handsome, and a little unsure when something is brand new, but give him a moment to take it all in and a treat for good measure, and you will quickly see what a lovely young dog he is. Kenji is still figuring out the world, and he approaches it thoughtfully, with soft manners, a curious heart, and an increasingly brave little cowboy spirit. He is currently fostered in a loving home with other dogs and has been getting plenty of opportunities to experience life beyond the house too. His foster regularly brings him along for patio lunches and dinners in the city, and Kenji handles those outings with a wonderfully calm demeanor for such a young dog. He is not trying to work the room or introduce himself to every person who passes. He is much more content hanging with his person, watching the world go by, and quietly taking everything in. He has good basic leash skills and is treat motivated and eager to learn, giving his future family a really nice foundation to continue building on. Kenji is dog friendly and wonderfully polite when meeting new dogs. He can be shy at first and prefers a little time to decide that his new acquaintance is, in fact, friend material. Once he warms up, he is a sweet and gentle playmate. He is not the type to barrel into an introduction demanding immediate friendship, and his softer approach makes him especially endearing. One thing that can convince this reserved cowboy to cut loose? The water hose. Kenji loves playing in the water, and it is an adorable glimpse of the silly young dog underneath that initially cautious exterior. He is also a great car companion once aboard. Kenji has not quite cracked the complicated engineering problem of getting himself into the car yet, so he currently appreciates a little boost. Once inside, however, he settles in and rides peacefully and happily. Kenji was polite when introduced to our house cat, although he was clearly unsure what exactly he was supposed to make of this strange little creature. Because he does not currently live with cats, we would recommend some initial boundaries, thoughtful introductions, and supervision if his future home includes a feline friend while everyone gets comfortable with one another. At nine months old, Kenji still has plenty to learn, but there is something really special about the foundation already there. He is gentle, affectionate, observant, dog friendly, easy to take out into the world, and very willing to learn when treats are part of the negotiation. He may need a little encouragement for some of life's firsts, but every new experience is another chance for this sweet cowboy to discover that he can do it. Meet George, a one-year-old goofball with a heart full of love and a body that seems to be powered entirely by joy. George is the kind of puppy who believes the world exists to be loved, kissed, and played with, preferably all at once. From the moment you meet him, he wiggles his whole squishy little body straight into your space, climbs right into your lap, and reminds you that no one is a stranger—just a friend he hasn’t kissed yet. His sweet, goofy puppy smile and endlessly wagging, longgg tail (which functions more like a propeller) make it impossible not to fall for him instantly. George absolutely adores people. He is affectionate, cuddly, and so eager to be part of whatever you’re doing. He would be thrilled to be your shadow, your couch companion, your adventure buddy, and your reason to laugh every single day. Despite his busy puppy energy, he has a soft, loving side and is happiest when he’s close to his humans, soaking up attention and giving out kisses like it’s his full-time job. He is incredibly dog-friendly and greets every dog the exact same way: an immediate play bow, lots of kisses, and then straight into joyful chaos. Confident dogs, shy dogs, playful dogs, aloof dogs—George loves them all. He is a rough-and-rowdy, pushy puppy player who thrives with dogs that enjoy that style of play. He loves running, chasing games, tug, sharing toys, and even lazy play sessions. One of his most endearing quirks is his signature move of ducking under things like they’re his own personal tunnels, because clearly that’s the more fun route. George currently lives with multiple dogs and does great in a pack, and he would absolutely love having dog siblings in his future home. That said, he also loves his people just as much and could be happy as an only dog if his humans are ready to keep him engaged and active. George is still very much a puppy and comes with all that happy, bouncy energy. He walks beautifully on leash and checks in constantly, turning to you with eye contact when you say “let’s go,” making him a wonderful companion for walks, outings, and adventures. He would be the perfect dog to take everywhere with you, always ready for the next experience as long as he’s by your side. He does live with cats and approaches them with sweet, goofy intentions, but he can be a little too playful at times. He doesn’t want to harm them—he just wants them to play, endlessly, even when they are very clearly done. Because of this, a cat-free home would be ideal. However, we do think he could go into a home with kitty friends. If he were to live with cats, he would need a playful dog companion to redirect his energy, along with cats who have safe spaces to escape and take a break. George loves kids and does well with them, but he is a growing boy with a lot of enthusiasm and can be a bit rough in his excitement. Older kids who can handle his bouncy play and occasional hops of love would be the best fit. He would be an amazing family dog; he’s playful and cuddly, the perfect formula for a kiddo’s best friend! As for his future home, George is an extremely adaptable pup. He could do well in an apartment with an active family or in a home with a yard where he can zoom and burn off some of that puppy energy. Continued training will help him channel all that excitement, but his eagerness to engage and love people makes him a joy to work with. George is, at his core, a silly, affectionate, playful little soul who wants nothing more than to love hard and live life to the fullest. Dwayne is looking for his forever home. He is the biggest lover and is looking for someone to give him all the attention he deserves. He can be reactive to seeing other dogs but with consistent training and exposure he has been improving tremendously. He loves rolling around in the grass, getting his belly rubbed and picking out his favorite bones or toys from his basket to chew on. Meet Athena, a one and a half year-old mixed-breed with a soft golden coat and an even softer heart. She loves the outdoors, walks and playing ball. She loves to sit at the front window and watch the neighbors walk by and smell all the smells in the neighborhood. Athena is good on a leash and doesn’t take a second look when seeing other dogs when she’s on her own walks. She loves pig ears and deer antlers and her stuffies with the little squeaker. Hello! I’m Sabrina, a lively five-year-old pitbull and blue heeler mix. I’m spayed, vaccinated, and microchipped, and I’m currently thriving in my foster home, soaking up new experiences like a sponge! I’m friendly with both cats and dogs, as long as we have the right introductions. You can’t miss my charming smile and my adorable blocky head! My favorite activities include evening strolls, chasing after balls, enjoying car rides, snuggling up on the bed, and showering my humans with kisses. On the flip side, I’m not too keen on sharing my squeaky toys, taking medicine, or getting my nails trimmed, but I’m making progress and getting used to it all. I’ve mastered commands like sit, stay, leave it, no touch, down, off, shake, and up. I’m an energetic girl who also loves to cuddle and can stay calm in a crate or kennel, though I’d much rather be curled up on a big, fluffy blanket on the bed.
