Story
Thea is such a resilient sweetheart who hasn't let her misfortune dim her shine. She has a loving and happy personality and is a dog that is easy to live with. * Because she is missing a front leg, she will do best in a home without a lot of stairs to navigate. Thea had a loving home since she was a puppy, but a year ago, her owner rehomed her during a divorce and Thea landed with an elderly person who hoards dogs. Thea lived in that home for the past year and when the elderly owner went into assisted living, there were 10 dogs of all sizes living in squalor in the home. We were asked to help Thea and some of the other dogs. Sadly, Thea had a broken leg from an unknown cause. The leg needed to be amputated but she is adjusting to being a tripod very well! She is also so grateful to be in a foster home with a soft bed, clean surroundings, and regular care. - 50 pounds and approximately 5.5 years old - Possibly a Boxer/American Staffordshire mix. She has a shorter nose on that adorable little boxy face of hers. - We are over the moon with Thea's temperament and personality. She is lower to medium energy, has nice manners, and is a total joy to be around. - Excellent with other dogs and has lived with both large and small dogs of both sexes. - Good with children and has previously lived with an infant and young children in her original how and was always very loving and tolerant. - Polite meeting an angry cat and did not chase when the cat ran away. - Crate trained - Potty trained - Would be happy with short walks in the neighborhood. She may not be a dog that can go longer distances due to missing her front leg. But she hops around well for shorter distances. She will need to be lifted into a vehicle to go places. She could very well be a happy homebody dog for someone that can only offer short walks near their home. - Not reactive on leash - Quiet and not vocal - Enjoys cuddling and lounging around on soft beds and the couch Thea is spayed, vaccinated, microchipped, dewormed, heartworm tested negative and current on flea/tick/heartworm prevention. Her adoption fee includes a free wellness exam at one of our partner veterinary clinics in Oregon City, Milwaukie, Tulatin or Portland. $200 adoption fee Fostered in Vancouver, Washington with a dog trainer APPLY TO ADOPT THEA ON OUR WEBSITE: WWW.AGAVEDOGS.ORG

******Please note, once completing the initial screen you will be connected with the placement for a video chat. Transports run every few weeks and we will have the dog on the next available transport once approved. If you are not able to accept a dog until a specific time period, please apply at that time************ We are a volunteer run rescue and donate our time to these dogs. IF you are not serious about moving forward in our adoption process, please do not apply. If someone other than yourself is part of the decision making process, please make sure you have spoken with them and they are on board. We really do not want to waste anyone's time if you are not serious about adopting this dog. Teeka, a 1 year 7 month old spayed female, Boxer mix, 42lbs. She is in a foster home in Houston, TX and can transport out of state once an approved adopter is lined up! The amazing Teeka is on the hunt for her forever home. She specializes in best friending with an emphasis on playing! She currently lives with several larger dogs and is learning to respect their boundaries. She LOVES to play with them, but does need some help realizing when her foster siblings are ready to stop. She has not met any cats, so we’re not sure how she’d react to a feline sibling. Her foster mom says she’s done well meeting new human friends and is learning not to jump on them. Because of this and her high energy levels, we do recommend a home with older dog savvy kids. This smartie is house and crate trained! She sleeps quietly in her crate and is kenneled whenever her foster family is out of the house. We don’t recommend leaving her out unsupervised as she may help herself to whatever she finds in the kitchen. Teeka’s love for food is next level and she will try to sneak a bite from you or the other dog’s bowls, but has shown no signs of resource guarding. She is still working on her leash manners, but is getting better every day! She gets a little too excited when she sees other dogs, but is learning to calm down and continue on her walk. This happy girl absolutely loves toys! She knows where the toy basket is and will get one so you can join in the fun. She’s a huge fan of fetch and tug of war! Teeka is learning the joys of relaxing too. She loves to lay on your legs and get some pets and give some kisses. She’s happy just to be near her humans. Teeka is a young pup with boundless energy that will thrive in a home with a yard, daily exercise, training and patience. She’s a goofy, happy, loving girl and with just one look into those pretty doe eyes, your heart will melt! ***Listed BREED and AGE - We are taking our best guess & recommendations from our veterinarian on age, breed and size when fully grown. We rarely know a dog's exact age nor are we able to tell the true or full breed mix of dogs as our information is limited most of the time. *** Interested in applying to adopt her? Story
Reba is an incredibly sweet and gentle puppy with a soft, loving personality that makes people fall for her very quickly. She has a calmer and more tender way about her while still enjoying all the normal puppy fun like playing, exploring, and spending time with the other dogs. She carries herself with a very affectionate, comforting energy and seems to genuinely enjoy being close to people. She is the kind of puppy who forms strong emotional connections and enjoys quiet affection just as much as playtime. Reba loves being loved on, and once she feels safe and comfortable, she relaxes beautifully into her environment. She has a very warm and gentle presence that would fit wonderfully into a family looking for a loving companion to grow alongside them. Watch her YouTube video now https://youtu.be/ynS3k8Q21f4?si=EbesVGjX2Rix3UT1 Even though she has a softer personality, she is still playful and curious. She enjoys exploring at her own pace, playing with the other puppies, and experiencing new things in a thoughtful way. She would likely do very well in a home that provides both gentle guidance and opportunities to continue building her confidence as she grows. Reba would thrive with adopters who appreciate a sweet-natured dog that enjoys closeness and companionship. She has the kind of temperament that makes you want to include her in every part of daily life — relaxing together in the evenings, spending time outside, going on walks, or simply having her nearby throughout the day. She is still very young and will need all the normal puppy training and consistency, but she already shows so many wonderful qualities. Reba is loving, calm, playful, affectionate, and deeply endearing. She is going to make a beautiful lifelong companion for a very lucky family. https://adopt.animalsfirst.com/animal/62cc8e128b02916730334440/69ead18da0fc8b7eb30b0ccb Questions? Story
Ann Marie is the kind of dog who makes you wonder why anyone ever leaves the couch in the first place. One look at her wiggly little body, her happy piggy-snorts, and her dramatic belly-flop routine and you’ll understand exactly why her foster calls her the absolute sweetest girl ever. Honestly, “Ann Marie” feels a little too formal for a dog whose greatest passions in life are naps, snacks, belly rubs, and aggressively cuddling anyone who dares sit down near her. This girl is basically a professional snuggler. She may not have the trophy to prove it, but she is fully convinced she won first place years ago. Her signature move? The Belly Roll™. The second she senses affection might be available, she’ll dramatically plop onto her back, wiggle-wiggle across the couch, and patiently wait for her spa treatment. Belly rubs are not optional in Ann Marie’s world… they are simply part of the daily schedule. Watch her rolls and wiggles in action here! https://youtu.be/8SoGUl3IYv8 At around 8 years old and 50 pounds, Ann Marie has perfected the art of being the ideal low-maintenance companion. We think she may be a boxer/beagle mix, but with rescue it’s always a guess! She’s happy to snooze beside you during a movie marathon, supervise your patio lunch date, join you for a beach day, or accompany you on leisurely strolls around the neighborhood. She’s got enough goofy sparkle left to make you laugh every day, but none of the “chaos gremlin” energy that comes with younger dogs. She is the perfect mix of silly and settled. Her foster says she spends most of her day happily napping on the couch, and honestly? She’s extremely talented at it. Ann Marie absolutely adores people. She lights up around affection and naturally gravitates toward human companionship wherever she goes. She’s lived with a child and done wonderfully, and her foster says she’s been around large groups of people in the home and happily soaked up every ounce of attention. She’s the kind of dog who wants to quietly exist alongside her people, occasionally waddling over for kisses and couch cuddles before returning to her very important nap schedule. When it comes to other dogs, Ann Marie is very much a “thank you, but I already have my people” kind of girl. She’s confident, socially appropriate, and has shown respectful greetings and easy leash manners around other dogs, but she isn’t particularly interested in doggy friendships or chaotic playgroups. Her behavior team described her as more of a roamer who prefers calm energy and personal space. Because of that, Ann Marie would likely be happiest as the only dog in the home where she can fully relax and soak up all the attention. However, with the right match, she may also do well with a calm, confident, lower-energy male dog who respects boundaries and doesn’t try to constantly engage her. If there’s already another dog in the home, her rescue team would want a trainer discussion beforehand to help ensure it’s the right fit for everyone involved. She has also done well around cats, but she would do best with calm, dog-savvy kitties who mostly keep to themselves. Ann Marie isn’t looking for a feline wrestling partner, so playful cats who want to zoom around, swat at her, or constantly get in her face probably wouldn’t be her style. A mellow, respectful cat companion would be much more her speed. She’s house-trained, non-destructive, rides wonderfully in the car, walks beautifully on leash, and doesn’t need much exercise beyond short strolls and sniffy adventures. She would be an amazing apartment dog. And she would be just as content with a yard to sunbathe in. Her ideal home would probably involve comfy furniture, soft blankets, snacks magically appearing on schedule, and humans who appreciate the finer things in life… like afternoon naps and quiet companionship. If you’re an older couple, a retired homebody, or just someone searching for a loving best friend who wants to spend her golden years snuggled up beside you, Ann Marie might genuinely be your perfect match. She’s sweet, easygoing, hilarious in her own little ways, and full of the kind of love that makes a house feel softer and warmer the second she waddles into it. And yes… she still does the happy wiggle-butt thing when treats come out. Some things never change. Ready to welcome a new furry friend into your life? Story
Remy is the kind of puppy who makes a house feel warmer just by being in it. He has a naturally happy, affectionate personality and loves being part of whatever is going on around him. At this age, everything is exciting and worth exploring, and Remy approaches life with a sweet curiosity that makes him incredibly fun to watch grow. He loves following people from room to room, checking in to see what they’re doing, and then happily settling nearby once he knows he’s included. He has a playful side that shines most when he’s with other dogs or when someone gets down on the floor to play with him. Toys are exciting, running around the yard is exciting, and honestly, just existing as a puppy seems exciting to Remy. He is still young and learning, so like any puppy he will need continued guidance, structure, patience, and lots of positive experiences as he grows. He’s at that age where he is soaking up everything around him and building confidence day by day. Watch his YouTube video now https://youtu.be/ynS3k8Q21f4?si=XBuwb-cUsgwPwwVM What makes Remy especially lovable is the balance he has between playful energy and genuine sweetness. After he gets his zoomies out, he loves to settle in close for affection and comfort. He enjoys being loved on and seems happiest when he feels connected to his people. He would likely thrive in a home that wants an involved companion — a puppy who will happily join in on walks, backyard playtime, lazy evenings on the couch, and everyday family life. Remy would do especially well with adopters who understand that puppies need both fun and routine. He has all the wonderful puppy qualities people dream about: playful, cuddly, curious, goofy, and full of love. He is going to make an incredibly loyal and loving dog for someone willing to grow alongside him. https://adopt.animalsfirst.com/animal/62cc8e128b02916730334440/69ead1a90085001008042771 Questions?
