Stella is looking for their forever home! WHAT MY FOSTER SAYS: Stella is one of the most low maintenance fosters I've ever had the pleasure of helping find a forever home. From being a shy, scared, and timid girl to being confident, secure, and well-mannered, Stella has grown so much in the 2+ years I've known her; although the vacuum cleaner is still enemy #1. Stella has lived in all types of settings: in a busy city, in an apartment, on a quiet street, with dogs, with reactive dogs, and easily adapted to her home environment. She is crate trained and LOVES having a bed in her crate to curl up into a donut while you're at work. She knows every basic command like sit, down, touch, stay and is fully potty trained. Stella's favorite toy is a lambie, or something else that is tiny that she can carry around in her mouth. Once, she took care of an egg for 6 hours before it broke, she's the most gentle creature. Stella is made of love and French fries. There's nothing more that she wants than to be inside with her people, cuddled up on the couch with a show, or playing sous chef in a calm kitchen. She takes awhile to warm up to her people, but with some french fires (her favorite is Burger King), some space, and a bit of patience, she'll love you unconditionally and will likely knock you over from wagging her tail and wiggling so hard with excitement every time she sees you. Although Stella is a perfect girl in the home, on leash, and with other dogs, she is scared of human strangers, especially masculine presenting people, and will need a strong advocate to help keep her safe. If you're looking for a great addition to your calm and cozy life with unconditional love to give, Stella is the gal for you. Stella would do best living with queer folks, a home without cis-gendered men, without cats, and without small children. Likes: Hikes, riding in the car, snuggling   Hi, Im Vela (rhymes with Shelia)! Im a super happy, playful girl who absolutely loves her people. Seriously, if you look up loyal in the dictionary, Ill be there. Well, okay, not actually. But I could be! I am excellent with people and enjoy human attention. I have demonstrated appropriate behavior in professionally managed dog playgroups and do go to daycare a few days a week, but benefit from clear structure and boundaries around other dogs. A home as an only dog is ideal and supervised dog interactions are best. Dog parks are not a great fit for me. Im crate and potty trained, and good about staying home alone if it isnt a daycare day. I love snacks and toys, and as queen of the house, I believe that I should have as many of both as I want! Im sure my future subjectser, family, will agree. Im a smart cookie, and Ive already learned a bunch of new tricks since coming to D.C. I know sit, stay, off, and leave it. Id like to learn a lot more tricks with my new forever family, so get your treats ready! *Woof* Come meet me at 71 Oglethorpe St NW between 12-7pm every day!Buella is amazing. During a weekend foster stay, her foster shared that she`s an incredible pup. She`s potty trained and has a huge love for cuddles. She’s smart, learns quickly, and gets along wonderfully with other dogs. She was friendly with all the adults and children she met and will happily curl herself up in a free lap at every opportunity. She’s great about giving things back, isn’t possessive, and has no issues with food guarding.She has this adorable way of turning her head to really listen to what we`re saying! She`s so smart. Buella is attentive, loving, precious and super gorgeous. Buella is almost 60 pounds, and she`s pure love. A volunteer recently shared this: `She is such a sweet love who is friends with everyone and wants to give hugs to every person she passes.` If you love the big doggies with darling smiles, and one`s that will listen to all your problems (and maybe fix one or two!), then you must take home Buella today. She is a DOLL!

Ruthie is a 2-year-old, 60-lb Boxer mix with a gentle soul and a brilliant mind. Before coming into rescue, Ruthie lived on her own for at least 6 months, skillfully evading capture, multiple trapping attempts, and surviving in an industrial area of town. Fed by kind mechanics and workers, she learned how to stay safe, avoid danger, and always show up for food — and that intelligence still shines through today. After a dramatic capture, Ruthie has been in a foster home, where she’s proven to be a very polite houseguest. She is fully house-trained and, even at her scariest moments, has never shown a hint of aggression — no growling, no raised lips, just fear. Ruthie is shy and deeply cautious with people, but she is sweet, gentle, and incredibly observant. We would not be surprised if Ruthie spent some of her life in someone’s home.  This brainy girl reads the room like a pro. She knows when a human might approach and will quietly skedaddle to keep herself feeling safe. While she’s still very nervous about leashes and handling, she allows most people to gently scratch her muzzle, and she’s learning — slowly but surely — that human touch isn’t such a bad thing. Watching her progress has been incredibly rewarding, especially as she’s started to enjoy ear scratches and soft affection from her foster mom. Ruthie is a great pack dog. She does beautifully with dogs of all sizes and temperaments and enjoys playful wrestling with dogs her size, but doesn’t demand play.  She happily coexists with the resident Chihuahua in her foster home. Ruthie is calm and content indoors and also enjoys a daily visit to the dog park. She’s a quiet presence who’s perfectly happy lounging on a chair, listening to her foster mom’s Zoom calls, and soaking in the safety of home life. At home, Ruthie is her foster mom’s quiet shadow. She sleeps in her room, wiggles with excitement when she comes home, follows her around the dog park — and yet may still hop off her bed and slip away if that same foster mom walks toward her for a pet. With Ruthie, trust is built in tiny, meaningful moments, and every day brings progress. Because of her history, Ruthie is a high flight-risk dog, especially in the early days. She will need a very committed adopter with a securely fenced yard, experience with fearful or flight-risk dogs, and a willingness to use safety tools like GPS collars, double leashes, and secure handling. Strength matters too — this is a 60-lb girl who needs someone confident and prepared. Ruthie has been around children at the dog park and treats them like little adults — with polite, reserved hesitation. She is food-motivated, sweet, and incredibly smart. With patience, structure, and time, she has all the makings of a truly special companion. Ruthie is one of those dogs who, with the right adopter and a few committed months of trust-building, will become a dream dog. Raven is a sweet girl who thinks she’s a little lap dog and loves lots of attention. She’s cuddly and forgets how strong she is when she leans on you. She has a sensitive stomach and skin allergies that usually affects the base of her tail and her tummy. She’s good when it comes down to bath time but does get assertive when it comes down to walkies. Unfortunately she was attacked by a dog before and is weary around them and can get a little aggressive. My brother was able to have her but unfortunately he had to figure out his moving situation and she’s back in my hands. I’m barely home due to work and I don’t have the funds to take care of her anymore. She needs a home that will give her all the time and love that I wasn’t able to now and love her best life.
