Story
Meet Buster! This handsome young bully boy is as sweet as they come and a naturally social pup. He was rescued from a rural county shelter, where his standout doggy social skills caught the attention of one of our amazing foster moms, who stepped up to foster him and bring him safely into rescue. Buste has been thriving in his local foster home for the past few months, living with his foster parents, Travis and Laura, and two young playful pups, and he fit right in from day one. This handsome guy is a natural with other dogs, loves to play, shares toys nicely, and is a huge fan of tug-of-war. He’s also house-trained, crate-trained, and has excellent leash skills… honestly, the total package. We checked in with his foster dad, Travis, for an update: “Buster is very adaptable. He enjoys other dogs but is also very connected to his person. He doesn’t want conflict and has a very happy-go-lucky attitude. He’s easygoing and did great adjusting to life with our bigger dog, Penny. He was a little nervous the first day, but by day two, they were cuddling together. He’s young, playful, and energetic, so he’ll do best in an active home with a dog who likes to play. He listens well, wants to please, and walks nicely on leash without pulling.” Buster has been on a few road trips with his foster family to Camp Ivan, his foster parents’ home away from home in Paw Paw, WV, and he did great. He enjoyed the trails and wide-open space to romp and explore with his pup pack, but always keeps a close eye on his humans and likes to stay nearby. His recall is excellent, and he travels well. Buster is truly a gem of a dog - affectionate, easygoing, playful, and ready to find his forever family. He will make an excellent pack companion and family dog, and is ready to start his new life….Apply today! Story
Meet Magnolia, aka Maggie. This sweet bully girl was rescued just before Thanksgiving in PG County, MD. Her rescuer, and now foster mom, Mara saw a post on her Ring app about a dog tied to a light post in a local park. Animal Control had been contacted, but no one had responded, and with the cold weather, Mara worried for the dog’s safety. She went to look for her, walking through the park multiple times until she noticed a small shape on the ground that she initially thought was a bag, but it was Maggie, curled up in a tight ball, trying to stay warm. She was thin, dehydrated, and exhausted, but friendly, allowing Mara to leash her and bring her home. Maggie has been living with Mara, her partner, their dog, and a cat for the past seven weeks. During her first week, she slept a lot and was fed small, frequent meals to help her regain strength. It was clear she had recently had puppies and was also dealing with skin infections that needed treatment. After multiple vet visits, her skin issues have nearly fully resolved, her beautiful chocolate-brown coat is filling in, and she’s gaining weight and muscle.  Today, Maggie is a completely different dog. She’s come out of her shell and now shows the healthy energy of the young dog she is. She’s learned good house manners, is both house- and crate-trained, and has adapted well to being part of a pack. Maggie does well with the resident dog but is not a good fit with cats. We also brought in a trainer to work on her leash skills, and she’s made steady, positive progress.  At first, everything was exciting and new for Maggie, but with continued exposure, she has learned to navigate new social situations. She does well meeting visitors and joins her foster parents on outings, including trips to Home Depot. She recently attended a family holiday gathering where she did great with everyone.  We checked in with her foster mom, Mara, for an update: "Magnolia is such a sweetheart and so loving. She is a naturally friendly, social pup who is always seeking love and affection. Sometimes she even thinks she’s a lap dog. She’s an active girl who’s always ready to go and do, but she’s also learned how to settle indoors and is just as happy lounging on the couch for a movie night. Adjusting from her previous living situation (unknown) to life inside a home took a little time, but she’s absolutely loving it now. Magnolia loves the comforts of home and is a total cuddle bug who wants to be right by your side. We’re currently working on basic commands like “sit” and helping her build impulse control, balanced with playtime with her stuffies and cozy crate naps. She’s shown no signs of reactivity toward people or other dogs, and no resource guarding. She does, however, have a prey drive and is very interested in squirrels and other critters.” ******** We think Maggie would thrive in an active home and would love a canine companion of similar size and energy to play with. She’ll do best with an owner who has large-dog experience and is committed to providing structure and continuing her training so she can keep progressing. Maggie is an incredibly sweet girl who will make a loyal, loving companion. Apply today! Story
If you are interested in adopting King, please contact dogs@lostdogrescue.org. All hail King, ruler of the backyard zoomies, champion of fetch, and professional lean-in-for-a-belly-rub expert. This affectionate, sweet boy has perfected the art of “play hard, nap harder.” One minute he’s trotting happily beside you on a walk, the next he’s sprawled dramatically by your desk like he just finished a very important business meeting. King’s dream life? A fenced yard, a basket overflowing with toys, and a favorite human to shadow from room to room like a very devoted (and slightly silly) personal assistant. He’s the kind of dog who will quietly keep you company while you work, supervise your cooking from the kitchen floor, and politely request his daily quota of bear hugs and belly rubs. He truly just wants to be with his favorite human, whether that’s hanging out inside or heading outdoors for walks, sniffing adventures, fetch, and games. Even better? This good boy is currently thriving in a foster home where he’s shown just how naturally he fits into family life. He is house-trained and crate-trained, sleeps soundly through the night, and settles beautifully into a routine like he’s been part of the family forever. Equal parts goofy sidekick and loyal best friend, King is ready to trade foster life for couch naps, sunny walks, squirrel patrol duty, and forever-family status. If your house could use a little more laughter, love, and paw-print energy, King is ready to move in and claim his throne.

He's also great on the leash, which is just the cherry on top of an already very appealing package. Don’t miss out, and adopt Aslan today!

Story
To learn more about Bufford, please get in touch with dogs@lostdogrescue.org. Meet Bufford, the ultimate butt-wiggling boxer mix! At just over 1 year old, Bufford is an all-wiggles, all-love kind of pup who greets the world with a happy tail, soft eyes, and a big goofy grin! This handsome boy is a delightful walking buddy. He’s great on leash—traffic, bikes, and runners are no problem—and loves a good sniff-filled stroll. He may let out a little excited whine when he wants to meet another dog pal, but he redirects quickly with tasty treats, which he takes ever so gently, and walks on like the good boy he is. Bufford is friendly, agreeable, and eager to please. While he doesn’t seem to know many commands yet, his food motivation, mellow energy, and desire to make his people happy position him as a great candidate for training. Affectionate, goofy, people-loving, and always wagging, Bufford is the kind of pup who makes every day brighter. Story
MEET TEDDY!   We are excited to introduce Teddy, whose journey has not been easy. Last summer, a Good Samaritan brought him to the county shelter after he was bumped by a car. Thankfully, X-rays showed no fractures, though two metal objects, likely bullets, were discovered. Teddy showed clear signs of long-term neglect, including muscle atrophy, pressure sores from confinement, severe weight loss, inflamed skin, anemia, and heartworm disease. With the shelter over capacity, Teddy sadly ended up on the euthanasia list. After months of TLC, countless vet visits, treatment for skin and ear infections, diagnostics to uncover the cause of his anemia, and a stable foster home to help him heal, Teddy is now ready for his forever home. He’s gained weight, his coat looks amazing, and his inflammation is under control. He’s completed heartworm treatment, and he’s now on medication to manage his thyroid condition, which contributed to his anemia. Teddy has proven to be an incredible pup companion and cuddle bug with his humans. He has excellent house manners, is crate and house trained, rides well in the car, and adores his people. While he can still be a little nervous in brand-new environments, he warms up to visitors (after a few barks) and is soon asking for pets and snuggles. He’s been great with his foster mom Lou’s grandkids and naturally gravitates toward them. Today, Teddy is finally enjoying life. He loves toys, sunbathing, backyard playtime with his pack, and curling up as close as possible to his foster mom on the couch. Lou says Teddy thinks he’s a lap dog and always wants to be touching his humans, despite weighing 75 pounds now! Teddy was truly a mission dog who needed significant time, care, and resources. We’re incredibly grateful to everyone who stepped up for him, from the shelter advocate who saw his sweet spirit and fought for him, to his foster mom, Lou, and our veterinary partners who helped bring him back to health. This handsome boy is ready for his forever home. Best suited for a calm home environment and patient owners who will give him time to acclimate and gradually expose him to new things. He'd be great wtih a dog buddy, but could be an only dog too. No cats! Apply today!
