Spayed or Neutered,
Story
Meet FELICIA! Felicia is an adorable, sweetheart! Look at that sweet face with the expressive eyes and rabbit ears! She is about 6-7 years old, a great size at 33 pound. Pictures just don't do this beautiful brindle boxer mix justice. Felicia is comfortable and quiet in social situations and gets along with everyone she meets!! Felicia has learned how good it can be to have a nice soft dog bed and cuddles and can't wait to be in her forever home!! Could it be with you? Apply for this soulful senior girl today! Felicia found herself through no fault of her own in a rural North Carolina shelter that does not get many adoptions. Poor Felicia (and another young dog) were turned into the shelter when their owner was no longer available to take care of them. PetConnect came to Felicia's rescue and found a safe temporary local foster until she could be brought to the DC area to find her new home. Felicia will be best in a home with moderate to low activity. While she is a middle-age gal, she is healthy, enjoys her walks, and meeting people. Most of all, Felicia settles down nicely in the comfort of her foster home to hang out in her dog bed or cuddle with her human. If you are looking for a very sweet, low-energy gal, Felicia may be the one for you! Felicia seems to understand housetraining, and would be a great companion. Felicia is spayed, up-to-date on vaccines and preventatives and eager to find her special person to love! The adoption fee for Felicia is $250, which includes routine vetting, vaccines, and spay/neuter. ***Please note that the first step is to fill out an application (It does not commit you in anyway but allows us to discuss with you if you and the dog are a good fit). In addition, an important step in approving applicants is a vet check to ensure that your current and previous pet(s) are kept up to date on vaccines (including rabies ), spayed or neutered, maintained on appropriate monthly preventatives and examined annually by your vet.*** Complete an online application, and contact Robin at kinstondogs@verizon.net if you would like more information on Felicia!.September 18, 2023, 12:07 am

Not good with dogs,
Story
Name: Baby Sex: Male Estimated Age: About a year old Best Guess for Breed: Boxer/Mastiff Mix Weight: About 70 lbs Good With: LOVES ALL PEOPLE! We aren’t sure how Baby would do with cats or kids, but we are happy to test him out. BABY'S PERFECT MATCH: Baby is a very sweet pup who is looking for a home where he can be the only pet and a family that wants to be loved fiercely and will continue working with him on training and enrichment activities.  PERFECT FAMILY: Baby is very loyal and loving, and we think he would prefer to be the only pet in the home. In his foster home he lives with two other similar-sized dogs. He likes to run and play with the other dogs outside, but most of the time he prefers to spend his time playing or cuddling with humans. He does well when playing with other dogs with the right introduction. But, because of his size and energy, sometimes he can be a little overwhelming for other dogs. When guests come over, Baby is initially very excited and playful, as most dogs are, but he chills out after getting that initial energy out and/or being redirected (training, treats, or toys!). Baby has done well with kids (you can see him getting pets from a little one in one of his profile pics) but he hasn’t been around kids for long periods yet. He is also looking for a family that loves to play, is committed to training, and enjoys lounging with a puppy. Continuing to work on his training knowing that it will be very helpful for both the family and for Baby - a well-trained dog is a happy dog. He loves his training sessions partly for the treats but mostly for the quality time he gets with humans. As much as Baby loves training, he also has a goofy and loving personality. If you think you’ve seen the best puppy eyes before…wait until you see Baby’s! All in all, the perfect family for Baby will be a family that is ready to give a lot of love - and receive twice as much back, because Baby will shower you with gentle kisses and cuddles, adorable looks (he’s very photogenic!), fun and engaging play, and endless laughs.  PERFECT HOME: A home with a fenced in yard away from the bustling city. Baby can handle open areas like parks for short periods but like many younger dogs, he can get tired and overstimulated, so we do not recommend taking him to busy and unpredictable areas like dog parks, busy patios, and daycare.  Baby loves to sunbathe and play fetch or tug in the yard. He does well on walks in our quiet neighborhood, but we think a yard would help him get some of the extra energy out. Baby seldom barks in the yard, even when other dogs are barking in the yard or elsewhere in the neighborhood. EXERCISE NEEDS: As can be expected with young dogs, Baby has bursts of energy that are easily managed with outside play time, training, playing, and enrichment activities. Currently, most of his physical exercise comes from playing in the backyard. He loves tugging with the other dogs or humans in the yard, and really enjoys playing fetch and quickly drops the ball/stick/rope when he’s given the command “out.” Baby gets pretty tired out with training sessions, too! Like most puppies, he’s still perfecting his focus despite distractions and keeps getting better with training sessions. Finally, on rainy days where walks or playing in the yard isn’t feasible, Baby is content with some light fetch or tug inside and some puzzles or other enrichment activities that challenge his mind and senses.  BEHAVIOR IN HOME: Baby is a big love bug! He gives the sweetest, most gentle kisses and seems to consider himself to be a 75 pound lapdog. When alone or sleeping, he is kept in his expen area isolated from the rest of the home. When we come to his area to get him, he waits calmly and quietly for us to let him out of his area. When he hears the other dogs in the house barking, he rarely joins in. He also uses the bathroom outside in the yard and knows a number of commands including heel, out, stay, sit, and place.  He plays outside with the other 2 dogs in the home, but again it is clear to us that he is happier when he has alone time with the humans - whether that’s playing outside or lounging inside. As long as we are in the same proximity or are physically touching him somehow, he will happily chew on a toy or sleep. He will let you know when he would like to play or be pet. When he first came to us, he jumped up and barked at the humans when he wanted attention or to play. He quickly learned how to ask for attention and, since the first week, he hasn’t  jumped or barked to get attention from humans. Now, he asks for attention and playtime by bringing a toy, making eye contact, rolling over for a belly rub, or pawing at the humans.  CRATE: Baby is crate trained. When he first came to his foster home, he spent all of his alone time in the crate. After the first couple weeks at the house, we moved him into an expen to give him a little more room when he is alone. He sleeps and relaxes in his expen during the day and also sleeps in there all night long without a peep - unless he needs to potty!   If you think that Baby might be your perfect match, apply today!October 3, 2023, 10:06 am

We do not have a shelter. CDCK has a thorough adoption process to find the best possible fit for each of our dogs and cats (we do not operate under a first-come, first-served model). Upon accepting a new cat or dog into the organization, we provide a basic vet visit that includes necessary vaccinations, disease screenings, deworming, microchips, and spay/neuter for dogs six months and older. We do not provide a comprehensive medical exam before adoption. As a result, sickness, injury, and disability may exist unbeknownst to CDCK. City Dogs & City Kitties Rescue is not responsible for payment of any vet care, including known and unknown medical conditions once a cat or dog is adopted from us. Dog specific: Rabies, DHPP, and Bordetella vaccines. They are tested for HW, Lyme, Ehrlichia, Anaplasmosis. Most cats and dogs will have a house-training accident in the initial days in their new home and we cannot guarantee any pet is housebroken or crate trained. We also update our Facebook page daily with new cats and dogs.

Luna is an energetic girl whose jumping skills are Olympic level. She would do best in a home with a yard with a high fence to allow her to exercise but keep her safe.

Story
sweet older girl ISO fresh start and love TUTTI NEEDS A FOSTER OR FOREVER HOME!!!! Name: Tutti         Best Guess for Breed: Boxer mix Best Guess for Age: 5 years as of September 2023        SEX:  Female   Approximate Weight:  38 lbs   Gets Along With:  Other dogs! We haven't seen her with kids or cats but she can be tested.   Currently Living at:  South Carolina shelter; needs a foster or forever home in the DC area to get her freedom ride up here.    Tutti is Looking For:   You know, most dogs that arrive in the shelter don't come with a back story. You can only look at them and guess. Looking at Tutti, it looks like she's been bred. She isn't a young'un barely out of puppyhood. That's the physical part. The emotional part? Whatever her past was like, she has firmly closed that chapter. Tutti is just so sweet and so eager to start her new life, to get her own loving family. She's ready to explore the neighborhood - the local parks - the world - with her humans. Quality kibble and a cushy dog bed would be nice too. But you know what? She's lived enough to know what's important, and she just wants to be safe and loved.  She has stored up a pretty good quantity of adoring looks and tail wags for her new family and promises loyal companionship for all her days. What do you say? Are you the soft landing this girl deserves? What My Foster Says About Me:  We will update this once she has arrived in the DC area and spent some time with her foster.  Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken.  All of our dogs are working on their crate training.  TO ADOPT:      The adoption fee for this dog is $460, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations and spay/neuter. If you are interested in adopting, please complete the Adoption Questionnaire online   at   bit.ly/adoptaluckydog  .   Lucky Dog Animal Rescue does our best to provide accurate information about the dogs we have for adoption. Story
Zip is a floppy, soft sweetheart. Our best guess is American Bulldog/Hound mix. He is cuddly, curious and outgoing and loves to be with people. He is doing great with the kids and other dog in his foster home. He needs consistency and practice with his manners and boundaries but he is super smart and fun to train. He has learned to sit and wait for his food even though he's soo excited to eat! Zip loves to play with other dogs and play with his toys and bones. He also loves to play with socks, shoes, and pretty much everything else so he needs lots of patient but firm reminders about what's his and what's not. He is house trained and crate trained. The adoption fee for this dog is $375, which helps with the cost of routine vet care. A spay/neuter deposit is required at time of adoption. **No extensions or exceptions will be made to the required spay/neuter date. Puppies require an adopter who is home a good part of the day to continue their training - no exceptions! They are up-to-date on age appropriate vaccines and preventatives and will need to be spayed/neutered at the age of 6 months. Please note, this pup's immune system will not be fully functioning until about 16 weeks of age and therefore, s/he is not suited for Apartment/Condo living or Town homes without a private fenced yard and will not be able to go to public places where s/he could possibly be exposed to the germs of unvaccinated dogs, such as PetSmart/PetCo and dog parks until s/he is 16 weeks old. Petconnect Rescue cannot guarantee the exact breed of any animal in our care. The breed listed is based on any background we may have been provided, and the general appearance of the animal at the time they enter our system. Must be spayed or neutered by 11/10/23 for more information please email heather.sakole@gmail.com **If you're viewing this on Petfinder, please visit www.petconnectrescue.org to complete our non-binding application.September 18, 2023, 12:07 am

COME MEET ROCKY AND OTHER LOVEPAWS DOGS THIS SATURDAY 9/30 AT THE BELTWAY BARKS EVENT AT THE RIO LAKEFRONT IN GAITHERSBURG, MD FROM 11:00 - 2:00.   Say hello to Rocky! Rocky was found after his owner abandoned him in a nice neighborhood hoping he would find a better home. While we are sad for his past life, we are hopeful for his future.  Rocky is a very popular boy wherever he goes... just look at him! This 77 lb, 8yo hippo (he needs just a few less treats in his life) is a very chill, very good and very happy boy looking for a family to call his own. His foster dad can’t say enough good things about him. He goes to work with his foster dad and all his co-workers adore him! Rocky is housebroken and will let you know when he needs to go out. He mostly hangs out with his human friends and sleeps a lot of the day away, but he also has a playful side that will bring a smile to your face on your worst days. He makes the funniest grunt when he takes a treat! Rocky is good with dogs (he doesn't live with dogs but does fine with them on walks and at adoption events) and kids, and lives with a cat that he ignores. Rocky is neutered, heart worm negative, microchipped, and up-to-date on vaccines! He's being fostered in the MD/DC/VA area. If you would like to make this chill, go-with-the-flow, fantastic house hippo a much loved part of your family, please fill out an adoption application at  https://lovepawspg.org/browse/adopt-or-foster-application/ October 3, 2023, 5:09 pm
