Story
Roxy, ~2 years old, 62 lbs *Roxy is available for adoption outside of Virginia, Maryland, and DC. *   Good with: Dogs of similar size, Kids over 10   Not compatible with: Cats, Small dogs, Kids under 10     Follow my adventures on Instagram!   Roxy has undergone a major 'glow up' and is ready to find her forever home. She attended a board and train where she learned tons of commands (sit, down, place, stay, come, heel, and more!) and how to navigate the world in a way that works better for everyone. She has also been with an awesome foster that maintains all of her skills and constantly seeks out ways to expand her horizons.   With that, a few things to keep in mind about Roxy: Roxy loves other dogs...a little too much. And this can get her into trouble if she doesn't have a owner ready to call time outs and set boundaries. She loves to be chased by other dogs and wrestle but we consider her a "party girl" which isn't for everyone. Monitored 1:1 play with a dog of similar size/energy seems to be best for her. She tires pretty quickly and once the zoomies are out, she is happy to lounge around or self-entertain with her pals. We do not recommend the dog park or daycare for Roxy given the unpredictable nature of those settings. She also struggles with on-leash greetings but can comfortably pass other dogs on walks and has a beautiful loose leash heel. Roxy has high prey drive which means small, squeaky things or things that move fast can be really distracting for her. Prey drive is an instinctual behavior that every dog has to an extent but with a higher prey drive dog, it's important that owners understand the limitations that might come with that behavior. The good news is that high prey drive dogs are usually very smart, motivated, and quick to learn, which Roxy is! &#226&#128&#139An ideal home for Roxy would be one where she could have a human for an adventure companion and someone ready to continue learning with her. She needs regular mental and physical stimulation (note, she is not high energy, just needs structured outlets) but is also happy to snuggle on the couch or nap in her crate while you are away. She could live in a structured home with another dog of similar size but is also content being the only dog. She should not live with small animals like cats, bunnies, toy breed dogs, etc.   Roxy is crate and potty trained, does not struggle with separation anxiety, and is not a barker or destructive in the home. She loves hard and bonds quickly to her people. Always has a smile on her face and loves going for walks or playing fetch. Roxy can excel in the city since she's well adjusted to city life (not bothered by city noises or city life) but she’s not opposed to a fenced in yard where she can play and sunbathe. Check out this cute video of Roxy showing off her skills!   Rural Dog Rescue wants Roxy to get to her forever home (wherever that may be). Our boundaries are usually within the DC, Maryland and Northern Virginia borders, but we know Roxy’s home may be outside of this and we will assist in getting her where she needs to be. We will also assist in getting you comfortable with her training and tools and connect you to a trainer for long-term support.   If you are ready for a whip smart adventure pal that already comes fully prepared to navigate the world with you, c omplete an application today so we can schedule a meet and greet! My adoption fee includes: Spay/Neuter Surgery (unless I'm too to young!) Overall wellness exam Current on all core vaccines (including DHPP & rabies) Microchip Current on flea & tick and heartworm preventatives   Interested in adopting a rescue dog? Story
Female, ~5 years old, ~37 lbs. Approximate Age: ~5 years old   Approximate Weight/Size:   Medium   Good with: Dogs   Not tested with: Cats, Kids   Hi, I'm Fancy! I am a classy gal and I have the most bubbly and polite personality. I know when I see a leash that it's time to head out for a walk. What's even better is that I have great leash skills (although I still pull a little bit if something exciting is happening!) I am down to go on long walks, but I also don't have high energy needs so a few short walks or a quick trip to the dog park is also totally fine with me! I would also be happy to play with toys or fetch in the backyard as my daily exercise. Along with my great leash skills, I've learned multiple commands with my foster: I'm a very smart girl! I am crate trained, do well in the car, and house trained. I will even let you give me a bath: I'll hop right in! When my humans need a kiss or some snuggles, I'm the first one at their side ready to put a smile on their face. While I love being around my people, I can also be trusted in the home without my humans around. I like to chill in my crate or on the sofa and am respectful of the boundaries within the home and don't get into things I shouldn't. I would be a great apartment dog. I would also be a great dog for someone that works full time, as I'm able to preoccupy myself and not have to be let out frequently. I am great at greeting strangers and that includes adults, kids, and other dogs. I am just the most cuddly pup and I love getting belly rubs. I am the most loving girl and I can't wait to find my forever home where I can share all the love I've got to give!   Adoption Application: http://bit.ly/adoptrdr My adoption fee includes: Spay/Neuter Surgery (unless I'm too to young!) Male, ~2 years old, ~45 lbs. Approximate Age: ~2 years old   Approximate Weight/Size:    Medium   Good with: Dogs   Not tested with: Cats, Kids   Hi, I'm Nathan! I am a lovable pup who has had a rough start to life. My last family lost me but never came to pick me up when I was found and I'm not sure why. Despite this rough start, I'm an incredibly happy pup. I make friends with everyone I meet and love to go on adventures, whether it's a stroll around town or to the park for a hike! The nice folks at RDR will update my profile when they learn more about me.  I can't wait to find a forever home where I can share all the love I've got to give!   Adoption Application: http://bit.ly/adoptrd r My adoption fee includes: Spay/Neuter Surgery (unless I'm too to young!) Story
Male, ~2 years old, ~54 lbs. Approximate Age: ~2 years old   Approximate Weight/Size:    Large   Good with: Dogs   Not tested with: Cats, Kids   Hi, I'm Kush! I'm a shy but lovable pup who is excited to meet my forever family. I take a while to warm up to new people, but once I get over my nerves then I become a super confident pup.  I'm currently on Trazadone to manage my anxiety, but hope to wean off it once I'm in a stable environment.   I'm extremely food motivated and will sit politely when offered a yummy treat.  I would do well in a home with older children that can respect my space. I would also do well in a home with another dog: I'm extremely playful.    The nice folks at RDR will update my profile when they learn more about me.  I can't wait to find a forever home where I can share all the love I've got to give!   Adoption Application: http://bit.ly/adoptrd r My adoption fee includes: Spay/Neuter Surgery (unless I'm too to young!)
