Story
Duchess is a gentle, sweet girl with a soft heart and a curious spirit. She can be a little shy when meeting new people, but give her a little time and you’ll see her warm up—sometimes even leaning into head pets once she realizes you’re a friend. She walks nicely on leash with only a light pull and enjoys taking in the world around her. Duchess is curious about other dogs and likes to play, though her enthusiasm may be a bit much for some more reserved pups. With the right introductions, she could enjoy a dog friend who appreciates her playful energy. When Duchess arrived she was very hungry and eager for her meals, but she happily allows gentle petting while she eats. Toys are still a bit of a mystery to her in the busy shelter environment, but in a calm home she may discover just how fun they can be.With strangers, Duchess is politely curious—she’ll sniff hello, then step back to think things over. Once she feels safe, her sweet personality starts to shine.Duchess would do best in:A home with children 12 and olderPatient adopters who will let her build confidence at her own paceA possible dog sibling with the right play styleA home that may include a respectful catDuchess is the kind of dog who forms deep bonds with the people who give her a chance. If you’re looking for a loyal companion who just needs a little time to blossom, Duchess is ready to meet you.If you are interested in meeting Duchess, please complete our adoption questionnaire and a shelter team member will reach out to schedule an introduction. https://hamiltonmcnj.seamlessdocs.com/f/AdoptionApplicationHamilton Township Animal Shelter cannot offer any guarantees on the age, health, temperament, personality or mental disposition of any pet. Story
**$10 in pledges to any rescue that may pull!** Ragtime ACCT-A-243684 is an approximately 7-year-old spayed female who arrived as a stray on 2/22. Although she’s had a rough beginning, she’s proven to be a sweet, gentle senior girl who truly enjoys the company of both people and other dogs. Medical: On 2/24: "OD removed due to rupture and canine spay." On 2/23 exam Doctor noted: "Stray found 2/22. Bright, alert, responsive. Body Condition Score (BCS): 5/9 Muscle Condition Score (MCS): 3/3 Euhydrated. Squinting, painful, difficult to fully assess OD with crusting mucoid discharge. Mild dental calculus, no apparent oral masses or foreign bodies. SQ mass noted on cranial dorsal region. Pressure sores on hind end. Small mammary mass associated with caudal mammary chain. Normal external genitalia, no discharge or inflammation Assessment: - Painful ocular changes OD - SQ mass on dorsum - Mammary mass on caudal mammary chain" On 2/22 intake exam staff noted: "Bright, alert, responsive. Approximately 7-year-old female. Right ophthalmic irritation. Ears are waxy. Nose clear and moist. Dorsal mass. Stained yellow teeth adult." Videos: Laroo & Ragtime: https://youtu.be/wY-sCVUfBUI Ragtime & Cane: https://youtu.be/tQxfBViO_i8 Pets For Ragtime: https://youtube.com/shorts/XAsnsB7trtA?feature=share Behavior Notes: Per volunteer 2/28: Ragtime was a delight to have out in the yard. She chased after a tennis ball with her one eye and cone and brought it back. Sometimes she would lose track of it but was a good sport and found it fun. She liked to keep her one eye on her handler and would come running over if she felt there was too much distance apart. She was friendly through the fence with people and would wag her nubby tail. She bonked into many things with her cone and one eye. A very sweet, affectionate girl pal to have around. On 2/26 staff noted: "In reference to the dog meets, "Soft eyes, ears to the side, mouth closed, nub mid level wagging. Loose and wiggly with both Cane & Laroo. Allowed both dogs come up to her first and did not push further interaction with Cane when he stayed near his handler." On 2/24 staff noted: "Came into exam room wiggly, with loose body. Very friendly girl who seeks out attention, leans body into you. Generally allowed all handling and examination aside from staying still to allow for full ocular exam of her painful right eye. Did not show any signs of aggression despite the pain, but turned away." On 2/22 finder noted: Good around strangers and children. She appears sick. Scared, seems to be good. Story
Meet sweet Michaela (ACCT-A-237403)! This senior lady was surrendered to the shelter along with her sister, Bella (ACCT-A-237402), when their owner's health declined and he could no longer care for them. The owner recommended that Michaela and Bella stay together. Michaela is about 70lb and 9 years old. In the shelter, Michaela has been goofy and snuggly! She loves pets and attention and follows her sister around for comfort. She's had a good dog meet and, per her owner surrender notes, is "Great with children, good with strangers, okay with cats and dogs". She loves rope toys and treats and is already crate trained, housebroken, and knows some commands! Videos: Pets for Bella and Michaela: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/rmNtDYgy3Uw Michaela and Snuggle R: https://youtu.be/XRE4EHoecx8?si=cGwfnxj6b-AEvjrb Michaela and Snuggle R: https://youtu.be/HSovzG7QUsM?si=98yJ72yw2uD4QezX Behavior: Behavior eval 11/22/2025 Kennel Presentation: Stood at the front of her kennel with soft eyes and a loose body, low wagging tail. Took a treat gently through the kennel. Leash Skills: Easy to leash and walk out through the adoption lobby. Minimal pulling, went to the bathroom when outside. Sociability: Social with handler, soliciting attention and allowing handling all over. In the volunteer office, she and her sister went from person to person asking for treats and pets. Michaela was not as jumpy as Bella, asking for treats more gently. She remained loose and wiggly, loving pets all over and leaning in. Play: N/A Dog Interaction: Very comfortable with her sister. Loose body and followed each other around. When Bella reacted to another dog from afar, Michaela seemed to follow her lead a bit (barking toward the dog), but her reaction was smaller (no hackles or pulling) and she calmed down more quickly. Return to Kennel: Stopped briefly outside of her kennel, walked right in with a treat scatter. Easy to unleash Color Level: Gold Recommendations and considerations: Per owner 11/20/25 (Surrendered after 9 years along with Bella due to owner's health problems): The owner recommended that both dogs stay together. Fully housebroken, crate trained, medium energy, knows commands: yes, sit, lay down. Enjoys rope toys. Great with children, good with strangers, okay with cats and dogs. Owner recommended a "good family" ACCT Philly is located at 111 West Hunting Park Ave in Philadelphia. We are open for adoptions 7 days a week. Please visit www.acctphilly.org/adopt for details.
