Meet sweet Michaela (ACCT-A-237403)! This senior lady was surrendered to the shelter along with her sister, Bella (ACCT-A-237402), when their owner's health declined and he could no longer care for them. The owner recommended that Michaela and Bella stay together. Michaela is about 70lb and 9 years old. In the shelter, Michaela has been goofy and snuggly! She loves pets and attention and follows her sister around for comfort. She's had a good dog meet and, per her owner surrender notes, is "Great with children, good with strangers, okay with cats and dogs". She loves rope toys and treats and is already crate trained, housebroken, and knows some commands! Took a treat gently through the kennel. Leash Skills: Easy to leash and walk out through the adoption lobby. Minimal pulling, went to the bathroom when outside. Sociability: Social with handler, soliciting attention and allowing handling all over. In the volunteer office, she and her sister went from person to person asking for treats and pets. Michaela was not as jumpy as Bella, asking for treats more gently. She remained loose and wiggly, loving pets all over and leaning in. Play: N/A Dog Interaction: Very comfortable with her sister. Loose body and followed each other around. When Bella reacted to another dog from afar, Michaela seemed to follow her lead a bit (barking toward the dog), but her reaction was smaller (no hackles or pulling) and she calmed down more quickly. Return to Kennel: Stopped briefly outside of her kennel, walked right in with a treat scatter. Meet Croque Monsieur, a big-hearted, energetic giant of a dog who’s as charming as he is playful! This 104-pound goofball loves people and thrives on attention, greeting new friends with soft eyes, wagging tails, and plenty of butt wiggles. Croque is highly food-motivated, which makes training fun—but he’s also a gentle “mouthy” lover who will playfully place a paw or a gentle nibble on your hand while seeking treats. Croque is full of energy and excitement, enjoying romps with tennis balls, frisbees, and Chuck-It toys, and he absolutely loves chasing anything that moves. He has a curious and social nature, happily sniffing around the yard and showing friendly interest in other dogs when introduced calmly. Because of his size, strength, and exuberance, Croque is best suited for experienced adopters with older teens (16+) or adults who understand large-breed behaviors. He does best with consistent structure, daily mental and physical enrichment, and a strong leash setup such as a front-clip or Freedom harness to manage his playful energy. Used a frisbee smeared with kibble and peanut butter to distract while we did a restrain free exam, vaccines and microchip. He was tolerant and very into the food. He would trade the frisbee for another treat when we would take breaks. Per staff 2/21/26: Best suited for a home with kids 16+ due to jumpy/mouthy behavior. Experienced adopters with large breed dogs and behaviors he is displaying along with the need for proper mental and physical stimulation. Younger kids ( 13+) may be considered depending on the situation. Per staff 2/21/26: Kennel Presentation: he was at the front of his kennel with big soft eyes, ears to the side and nub wagging which turned into his whole buttock wagging after giving him a treat. He took the treat gently. Leash Skills: hard to leash as he was trying to push past the door in an excitement manor. He's a big dog and pulls hard. Zig zagging through the kennels and outside. Will randomly pull in the direction he would like to go. It would be best to have him on a front clipping harness or better yet a freedom harness with a double leash for more control from the handler. Outside his nose was to the ground sniffing away. Body remained loose, with ears to the side and nub neutral. Sociability: very social boy who just has no idea he's 104 lbs. Croque would jump up (standing taller then 5ft on his hind legs) pawing at me or Dayna. He can get mouthy while it's gentle he hand my whole arm or hand in his mouth. Did bite at our treat pouches. food motivated and knows sit, however if you did not get it out fast enough then he became jumpy. Play: loved chasing after a big chuck it ball on a rope. Romping around with a tennis ball way too small for him. Will trade for treats. Dog Interaction: saw a small dog at a distance while walking in the yard, said small dog was barking at him and he just kept on sniffing. Met myrna through the bars with ears to the side, soft eyes and when they went nose to nose his nub started to wag. Return to Kennel: went right back into his kennel. Was a little difficult to unleash, used treats on the ground to removed the leash. Color Level: Exp Blue Recommendations and considerations: getting him on a harness to help with the pulling. Bring food with you as he is highly food motivated and ready to work. He's a giant puppy who needs routine and enrichment to work is mind! Per staff 2/21/26: Was at the back of kennel when I walked by but then came to the front. Was quiet and sniffed my hand. I went to go get treat and he was back on the far aide of his kennel laying down. I walked around and he immediately sat up and gently took treats through the kennel. Per staff 2/20/26: TTA setting to eval. Meet beautiful Bella! Bella was surrendered to the shelter with her sister Michaela when their owner experienced health issues and could no longer care for them. These sweet girls have become shelter favorites with their goofy antics and gentle personalities. They are both sweet, tolerant, and great with handlers! Once we got into the vol office, she was very social with handlers, jumping up for treats and pets and remaining loose and wiggly. Play: N/A Dog Interaction: Great with her sister (loose and comfortable with each other). While outside, we saw another dog from afar and Bella got full back hackles, hard barking and pulling hard toward the dog until we were out of sight. Despite the old saying, sometimes good things do come in BIG packages! That’s certainly the case with Method Man, as this gorgeous guy tops the scale at 112 lbs. If you’d prefer to play in the yard, MM would be happy to oblige, as he’s a pretty laid back guy. But as long as you let him carry a stick, he’ll trot by your side when you go for walks. (Perhaps he thinks the stick is a cool accessory, meant to impress other dogs?) When it’s hot outside, Method loves nothing better than a nice nap on a cool floor, but he prefers to snuggle with a blanket when the weather turns cold. This adorably wrinkled guy is very smart and already knows his commands, and his motto should be ”will work for hot dogs!” Since his owner had to surrender him due to housing issues, Method Man has been very anxious to find his forever home. He prefers to share a home with just his human companions, and will make a wonderful addition to the right family. MM loves playing with stuffed toys, and will entertain his new family with an occasional case of the zoomies. Meet Mae, URGENT THIS SWEET GIRL WILL NOT DO WELL IN BOARDING, PLEASE HELP! 8 y/o - spayed (HW+ on treatment) apx 60 lbs No cats or very small dogs Foster says: Mae is a loving, loyal, and playful girl who was slated for euthanasia in an overcrowded NC shelter. Mae loves car rides and tearing apart stuffed toys. she always wants to be close by her person (but not quite on top of you). She knows basic commands and does well being bathed. She is well house trained and will communicate that she needs to go outside with restlessness, pointing, and whining. Mae is not vocal unless she has something she needs. She would love most to have access to a yard yet does wonderful in my apartment anyway. Most of her day is spent napping but she is quick to play with you when it is initiated despite her mild arthritis in her back legs. She is tolerant around other social dogs that are medium-large sized, but no small dogs, cats, etc. She will likely do best as the solo pet in the home in a calm, low-moderate activity household. Mae is currently located in a foster home in NC where she was saved and will be transported to the north/northeast when she has a forever home to go to, the foster is in school and can’t take with her.
