Lexi is from Phila., SPCA. Her history was unknown. She looked to be found on the street because she was very underweight and has some scarring on her face and neck. She has been reactive towards my other dogs around food, toys and closeness to me. She is very protective and needs a calm environment. She should be in a home with no other pets because she gets jealous of other pets. She is very clumsy and high energy so should not be around young children. She needs to be walked at least twice a day for an hour each at least, she needs a lot of stimulation (loves ball fetching and pull toys) and attention. Cane corso breed is the true velcro dog. She wants to be near you as much as possible. She should wear a muzzle around new people. I use the shock collar on buzz and vibrate mostly to help with commands. I use a prong collar for walks and she walks well without pulling.

Though she's still adjusting to the shelter environment, she has shown us glimpses of her lovely personality—walking beautifully on leash, taking treats gently, and even climbing up on a bench to quietly ask for pets. She prefers a slow approach, but once she feels safe, she’s calm, affectionate, and quietly brave. Isadora is currently healing from a tough stretch of health challenges, including pneumonia and a positive test for canine pneumovirus. She recently gave birth to stillborn puppies and is still recovering both physically and emotionally. She’s receiving medical care, but her appetite is low and her energy is subdued. We know this isn’t the real Isadora—it’s just the tired, sick version of her waiting for a soft place to land. She was originally found as a stray and described by her finder as docile and quiet with people but reactive to other animals, especially cats. While she has been tolerant in playgroup settings, she tends to be nervous and shut down around other dogs, preferring her own space. What Isadora needs now is time, patience, and a peaceful place to rest and heal—ideally in a calm home where she can decompress and begin to show the full extent of her loving nature. I took it slow and tossed her treats from the other side of the kennel opposite the bed she was laying on. I eventually went around and tossed her some treats upon opening the door she was facing. She did not retreat and allowed me to place my leash over her head. Once leashed, she easily got up and walked out of kennel. She walked SO well on leash, stayed right next to me even when passing a reactive dog. She seemed nervous so I didn't push interaction, but she did solicit some attention when entering the run where the photoshoot staff was located. She did well for her photo and was easily returned to kennel. Playgroup 4/26: Isadora was aloof at the gate for greetings. She was steerable on all accounts and very nervous. she was shut down in the yard and avoidant of all the dogs. we kept her in the yard to see if she'd warm up but she kept to herself for the most part. Per volunteers 4/26/25: I had Isadora out and she was super sweet but a little nervous. She allowed me to pet her but when she wanted some space she would walk away which is okay! She took treats very nicely out of my hands and walked excellent on leash. She did solicit some pets and climb up on the bench with me for some pets. She’s overall a really sweet girl! I had no issues returning her to kennel as she walked right in. Per staff 4/23/25: Finder stated she was going to keep the dog but after the dog attacking her cat she decided to bring the dog here Per finder 4/23/25: Very docile towards strangers and aggressive towards animals, mainly their cat. Despite the old saying, sometimes good things do come in BIG packages! That’s certainly the case with Method Man, as this gorgeous guy tops the scale at 112 lbs. If you’d prefer to play in the yard, MM would be happy to oblige, as he’s a pretty laid back guy. But as long as you let him carry a stick, he’ll trot by your side when you go for walks. (Perhaps he thinks the stick is a cool accessory, meant to impress other dogs?) When it’s hot outside, Method loves nothing better than a nice nap on a cool floor, but he prefers to snuggle with a blanket when the weather turns cold. This adorably wrinkled guy is very smart and already knows his commands, and his motto should be ”will work for hot dogs!” Since his owner had to surrender him due to housing issues, Method Man has been very anxious to find his forever home. He prefers to share a home with just his human companions, and will make a wonderful addition to the right family. MM loves playing with stuffed toys, and will entertain his new family with an occasional case of the zoomies. Meet Mae, URGENT THIS SWEET GIRL WILL NOT DO WELL IN BOARDING, PLEASE HELP! 8 y/o - spayed (HW+ on treatment) apx 60 lbs No cats or very small dogs Foster says: Mae is a loving, loyal, and playful girl who was slated for euthanasia in an overcrowded NC shelter. Mae loves car rides and tearing apart stuffed toys. she always wants to be close by her person (but not quite on top of you). She knows basic commands and does well being bathed. She is well house trained and will communicate that she needs to go outside with restlessness, pointing, and whining. Mae is not vocal unless she has something she needs. She would love most to have access to a yard yet does wonderful in my apartment anyway. Most of her day is spent napping but she is quick to play with you when it is initiated despite her mild arthritis in her back legs. She is tolerant around other social dogs that are medium-large sized, but no small dogs, cats, etc. She will likely do best as the solo pet in the home in a calm, low-moderate activity household. Mae is currently located in a foster home in NC where she was saved and will be transported to the north/northeast when she has a forever home to go to, the foster is in school and can’t take with her.
