Story
Harriet is a beautiful tortoiseshell cat who came to us at the beginning of February after a kind Good Samaritan found her as a stray and made sure she got the help she needed. Since arriving, Harriet has received lots of care and attention. She’s been treated for a common feline respiratory infection, spayed and brought up to date on her vaccinations. Now she’s healthy, happy and ready to find the loving home she deserves. Her name, Harriet, has a long and meaningful history. It comes from the old Germanic name Henriette, meaning “ruler of the home.” Throughout history, many strong and resilient women have carried the name Harriet and this sweet girl seems to share that same quiet strength. After navigating life on her own outdoors, Harriet is ready to rule a home of her own, preferably from a cozy windowsill or a warm lap. Harriet is also something special because she’s a tortoiseshell cat, often called a “tortie.” Torties have a beautiful mix of black, orange and sometimes cream coloring that looks like a patchwork of warm autumn shades. One of the most fascinating things about torties is that no two look exactly alike. Each one has a completely unique pattern, like a living piece of art. Harriet’s coat is her own personal masterpiece. Even after her uncertain start, Harriet has proven to be friendly and affectionate with the people she meets. She enjoys attention and seems happy to be safe and cared for. Because she was found as a stray, we don’t know if Harriet has lived with other cats or dogs before and we don’t know if she’s ever had the chance to experience the love of a family. What we do know is that she deserves that chance now. If you’re looking for a sweet, resilient, one-of-a-kind companion with a story still waiting to be written, Harriet might be the perfect addition to your home. The shelter is open Tuesdays through Fridays 3:30-6:30pm AND Saturdays & Sundays 1pm-4pm. No appointments are needed during those times. If you are not available during those times, special arrangements for a meet and greet may be able to be arranged by emailing arfcats@bereaanimalrescue.com. Thank you for considering the adoption of a shelter animal in need!

Story
🖤Meet Poe A Gentle Soul with a Story to Tell🖤 Once upon a midnight dreary, there was a quiet, watchful cat named Poe, waiting patiently for a home to call his own. Like his namesake, Edgar Allan Poe, this handsome black feline carries an air of mystery. But beneath it lies a tender heart just waiting to be understood. 1 year old Poe joined us in mid-March after being transferred from an overcrowded shelter. His past is unknown, but it’s clear he hasn’t always had it easy. Upon arrival, he needed some extra TLC to treat pesky worms. He’s now feeling much better and is officially ready for his fresh start. Right now, Poe is still learning that the world can be a safe and loving place. The shelter environment can feel overwhelming and he’s a bit unsure of his surroundings. But with time, patience and a gentle approach, he’s beginning to open up. Poe doesn’t need a hero. He just needs someone kind enough to move at his pace and let trust grow naturally. He’s had supervised time with fellow ARF feline resident Willy and it’s been a bright spot in his journey. Poe seems to enjoy Willy’s company. Perhaps he's drawn to his calm, confident and easygoing nature. It’s possible that a friendly, laid-back cat companion in his future home could help Poe continue to blossom. Poe may not be the cat who runs up to greet you right away. But for the person willing to give him a chance, his quiet companionship will be deeply rewarding. Watching him come out of his shell will feel like turning the pages of a beautiful, unfolding story. If you believe in second chances, gentle hearts and love that grows over time, Poe may be your perfect match. 🐾🖤 The shelter is open Tuesdays through Fridays 3:30-6:30pm AND Saturdays & Sundays 1pm-4pm. No appointments are needed during those times. If you are not available during those times, special arrangements for a meet and greet may be able to be arranged by emailing arfcats@bereaanimalrescue.com. Story
Meet a gentle longhaired soul in search of a forever hero. Lulu is a tender female who came to us in mid-November after being found as a stray by a kind Good Samaritan. Unfortunately, her rescuer couldn’t keep her due to having other pets and limited space. Lulu’s journey to safety didn’t end there and she was brought to ARF. She’s now looking for a special someone to help her feel truly at home. Lulu’s soft, luxurious coat will need regular brushing to stay tangle-free. This will be a perfect opportunity for bonding and quiet moments together. She is very shy and easily frightened, so she needs an adopter willing to go slow, watch her body language and follow her lead as she learns to trust again. When Lulu first arrived, she hid and slept in her litter box, crouched down, fearful of everything around her. She’s made some progress and now feels a bit safer sleeping just behind it. Our specially trained TLC volunteers have been working with Lulu to show her that people can be gentle and loving. They have also been working on proving to her that there is safety and comfort in human companionship. She will thrive in a quiet home without loud noises or too much activity and with an adopter who is patient, confident and willing to be her steady guide. We don’t know what hardships Lulu faced while fending for herself on the streets. But one thing is clear, she is ready for a forever hero who will offer her love, patience and security. Lulu may be shy now, but with the right person, her heart will open and she will learn that a gentle hand can bring warmth, safety and comfort to a life that has known so little of it. Could you be the hero Lulu has been waiting for? Lulu is available for adoption through our Foster to Adopt Program. This means that Lulu can go home with the right person as a foster on a trial basis for a pre-determined length of time to see if she is in fact the perfect fit for the adopter's home. At the end of the trial period, if both parties agree, Lulu's temporary foster placement would transition officially into her adoptive home. Please email her adoption consultant at arfcats@bereaanimalrescue.com to set up a meet and greet or to ask for further details.
