I’m Latana, a striking red merle Catahoula leopard dog mix, just about a year young. My journey began on a reservation in South Dakota, and it carried me all the way to Animal Ark, where I’m searching for my forever family. After arriving at the shelter, I was welcomed into a warm foster home filled with kindness, socialization, and plenty of TLC. Now I`m back at the shelter and ready to start seriously looking for my forever home. My past is a mystery--no one knows how I’ve lived with children, cats, or other dogs — so gentle, gradual introductions will help me settle in. What I can promise is this: I’m energetic, affectionate, and ready to turn everyday moments into adventures. You know, I am named "Tuffy" but what if I am just a "Softy"?? I am an active and sweet boy and I am kind of a goofball, too. I came from a very nice couple who loved me very much, however, they were homeless. Now don't get me wrong, they took EXCELLENT care of me, but I am a BIG puppy and they were having a hard time taking me on the buses or letting me into the shelters :( So, my parents asked the rescue to take me in and find me the right home, so here I am, looking all buff- if you ask me :) I am a GORGEOUS Catahoula boy, tall, merle and HANDSOME!! This baby Catahoula mix is a happy, bouncy, goofy ray of sunshine who spends most of her day playing with her puppy brother, showing off her puppy zoomies, and narrating her own adventures like she’s the star of her own reality show. She’s picking up all the important life skills by watching the big dogs around her, including the very serious chihuahua mix who communicates in side-eye. Shaylee now understands that not everyone wants to wrestle and she’s super respectful about it. She plays beautifully with dogs of all ages and sizes and greets every human like a long-lost friend. She hasn’t met tiny kids yet, but she adores her foster’s teen and loves being close to her people when she finally takes a break from puppy shenanigans. She’s getting better every day with potty training and leash walking, and she’s a champion eater who thinks treats are a lifestyle. Crate time is going well too—she voices her feelings at first, but then settles in for a nap like the sweet baby she is. Shaylee is sweet, spunky, full of heart, and equipped with some truly magnificent ears. She’ll thrive in a home that enjoys puppy energy, goofy charm, and the kind of love that comes with having a tiny shadow following you around. If you’re looking for a playful, affectionate, bright little buddy to grow up with, Shaylee is ready to bounce into your life and make you laugh every single day. **Obedience classes are required when adopting this puppy from Underdog Rescue. Many of our puppies have a mama who was not properly socialized before coming to Underdog Rescue. Since coming to Underdog, this puppy has been in a socialized and loving home, but that needs to be continued with its Adopters. Training classes teach puppies the ins and outs of being a pet while creating a bond with their new Adopter. Obedience classes are key to creating a relationship with your puppy while having it be a happy and successful member of society. Proof of Obedience Class registration is required for this puppy before adoptions can be finalized. If you would like some suggestions, we would be happy to send some trainers who have experience with Underdog Rescue, but a Basic Obedience class in your area should work! Please note that some of our dogs are obtained from shelters, surrendered to our care, or released from breeders. Each animal's bio is based on our experience of the animal within our care, an educated guess based on physical characteristics, temperament and information shared. Each dog receives basic grooming when coming into rescue, but for some dogs they have not received grooming attention until recently and grooming may be required shortly after adoption. This will be at the adopter’s expense, so we encourage you to research the breed and be prepared for grooming expenses. Underdog cannot guarantee hypoallergenic or non-shedding qualities of any dogs in our rescue. Some of the animals come from situations where they are lacking experience in a home and confidence in humans. In turn, they require another companion dog and/or a fenced in yard in their forever home in order for them to feel safe.
