Meet the lovely lady Phoenix! This sweet senior girl loves to be loved. She expects pets from everyone, so make sure to stop by and say hello! Phoenix's favorite activity is to lay in the sun and soak up the warm rays. She will bask for hours if you let her! Her favorite place is outside, and she would be happiest with lots of time outdoors. Phoenix is housetrained and will let you know she needs to go potty by sitting at the door. Phoenix also does great in the car and loves going for a ride. Her favorite destination is Dairy Queen for a pup cup treat! Phoenix is described as an unbothered outgoing girl who mellows out after a long walk or other enrichment. Phoenix also knows commands such as "sit," "lay down," "high-five," and "roll over." Phoenix has been around cats and children and did well with them! She has been around dogs and may do OK but would need a lot of patience and reassurance to help her feel confident and secure in the interaction as she has had negative experiences in the past with dogs. Slow and proper introductions to resident pets and children are always recommended when bringing a new animal home. Ask a TCHS staff for tips on how to ease the transition. Historically, Phoenix struggles with nail trims at home and does best in a harness and is familiar with PetSmart for trimming services. An adoption hold reserves available animals for one day after the animal is ready to be adopted. More than one adoption hold may be placed on an available animal and will be honored in the order they were received. Adoption holds are $25 plus tax, are non-refundable, non-transferable and not applied toward the adoption fee. **Minnesota sales tax and an administrative fee ($20 for cats/dogs and $10 for small animals) will be applied to all adoptions. Donations and adoption fees help cover the cost of spay/neuter surgeries, microchipping, vaccinating, deworming, any medical procedures, and general care of all shelter animals. Smoky does have territorial aggression behavior. Smoky has never officially attacked anyone, but has gotten aggressive towards multiple people while in our home. Smoky, is very well behaved with children, we have had zero issues with children & him. We are just super cautious when they are together. Smoky is on Tradazone & gabapentin when he goes to the vet. He also just started Fluoxetine (anxiety, aggression) it has only been 1 week since he started. And it could take up to 6 weeks before we noticed any changes with the medicine. Through the vet, they do say Smoky has a chance to change his aggression behavior with Training, but unfortunately we cannot afford it & want him to have a good life with someone who can help him improve. Smoky will be 3 on December 3rd and we know he is a amazing dog, he does have a chance to live his life to the fullest with a family or individual that has the time & money to help him get past his behavioral issues.

Maryann needs a hero. Growing up in rescue is not living her "best life". She has not had it easy. She was adopted as a puppy, but when her dad got a new girlfriend, he decided that he couldn't be bothered with his dogs and so after a year, Maryann ended up back at the rescue. Now, she is hopeful that someone will see her sweet nature and beautiful colors and make her their newest family member. She is up to date on shots, spayed, microchipped, house trained and ready to be adopted. All she needs now is a good loving home full of happiness, playfulness and lots of love. She is in TN but one of our donors has sponsored her so the cost of transport to your area is included in her fee. We use the most animal friendly transport on the road, Rescue Riders Pet Transport.

When a dog comes in stray alligator rolling at the end of a leash we just can fathom what their previous life was like. This was just how we met Brynn. She was said to be found running stray down on Stanton Ave by Service Food back in Dec 2024, but we are not sure if we were told the truth. We quickly learned that Brynn was literally scared of everything. She was scared to walk on our slippery floors, scared of a leash being used on her, and scared of the doorways and the doors closing behind her. She was never aggressive and sought solace in a just a couple staff who she knew were there to care for her. Slowly after a couple weeks she started to eat regularly, she would walk on the leash outside to go potty, she would seek out attention from staff who were not the ones feeding her. Brynn was still pretty timid of new people for a couple of months but we are happy to report that now she frequently goes out with volunteers for walks, she has not missed a meal (she loves snacks), and she is ready to meet new people anytime someone asks to see her. Unfortunately she hasn`t found her family yet but we are hopeful someone will chose her soon. Brynn is a medium 45 pound mix of the sweetest kind. She is kennel trained, seems ok with cats, and has not had an reactivity towards other dogs but we would require a meet and greet. She does still have the tendency to get a bit spooked so she will need to be secured to the property and not allowed to free roam.
