Story
Lumi - an apx 5 y/o, 45 lb. Australian cattle dog/collie mix - was incredibly lucky to be found by a tourist traveling through the mountains. She was terribly underweight, alone, and wandering near a river (which was the inspiration for her name which means “river” in Albanian). The good Samaritan tourist who found Lumi helped prepare her for her new chapter by teaching her to walk on leash, getting her fully vetted, and providing lots of TLC. What makes Lumi even more special is her personality - despite the rough life, she clearly was living, she is incredibly gentle, calm, and intelligent. She adapts quickly and continues to surprise us every day with how loving she is! She is medium energy, loves children, enjoys playing with other dogs, is totally uninterested in cats, and rides beautifully in the car. After surviving life alone in the mountains, Lumi is finally ready for a family of her own, one that will give her the love, comfort, and safety she has always deserved! If you are interested in adopting or learning more about this sweet, gentle girl, TEXT/CALL Aly at 732-604-0625. Thank you for caring about a precious pet in need!

Story
MATILDA WAS LEFT AT A CHURCH… DON’T LET THAT BE THE END OF HER STORY 💔 🚨 Someone left her at a church door… and walked away. No name. No explanation. No one coming back. Now Matilda sits in a loud, scary shelter trying to make sense of it all… wondering why she was left behind. She’s about 6 years old and only 25 pounds—a tiny, gentle soul who never asked for any of this. And here’s the truth about her: ✨ Once she’s out of the kennel, she is soft, affectionate, and loving ✨ She just wants to be close to someone ✨ Quiet, docile, and incredibly sweet ✨ Dog that will bond deeply once she feels safe She’s nervous in the kennel… but that’s not who she is. That’s fear. That’s heartbreak. 💔 She is not broken—she is just scared and needs someone to show her she’s safe again. Dogs like Matilda don’t do well in shelters… and they don’t get much time. 🙏 PLEASE — Matilda needs a calm, loving home ASAP. Give her the second chance she never got. Because being abandoned shouldn’t be how her story ends. PLEASE TEXT KAREN 4136298152

Story
My name is Scout! My mama is the most beautiful Penny Lane, who is also in the rescue. Our Dad- we are pretty convinced he had some Collie or Aussie in him and maybe some Lab. I am 4.5 months and about 25 lbs. The expectation is for me to grow to be about 45 to 50 lbs. I am such a fun, sweet and thoughtful boy. I win over everyone I meet. I am a little shy at first but will do practically anything for a treat. My resume is so long, I need to make a list for ease! - Dog friendly and playful - check! - Floppy puppy run - check! - Great at entertaining myself with toys - check! - Sleep through the night and go right in my crate without protest - check! - Love to go on leash walks - check! - Play fetch - check! - Housebroken - check! - Crate-trained - check! - Enjoy a puppy pool - check! - Loyal and affectionate - check! - Ride well in the car - check! I live with three big adult females and I think I am in heaven. I would do great with an older confident dog that would play with me and show me the ropes. I am such a well behaved little gentleman. I would love a family that can provide patience, activity and lots of positive reinforcement as I continue to learn the way of the world! Kids 8+. Cats okay. I am located in NJ! Story
Shyla - 6 months (as of 7/1), Collie/Beagle Mix, SpayedExpected Full Grown Size Around 30lbs This dog is eligible to join our foster-to-adopt program. Please email fostertoadopt@socialteesnyc.org with the animal’s name in the subject line if you are interested! Want to straight up adopt? Submit an adoption application at socialteesnyc.org Their Foster Parent Says: "Shyla is the total package: sweet, playful, smart, and always ready for an adventure. She is currently going on daily outings and exhibits good recall, positive socialization, and leans in for cuddles at the end of the day. She is a charming, happy dog with classic shepherd looks and puppy energy. As a fearless and intelligent dog, she needs an experienced leader who enjoys training and games. Shyla is equal parts adventurer and companion, making her an amazing best friend for an active lifestyle. Level of dog ownership experience required:INTERMEDIATE – This dog will need significant structure and plenty of daily exercise, training, and mental stimulation – 90 consecutive minutes of movement in the morning plus potty break walks and brain games throughout the day. The adopter must have relevant primary care experience with a similar breed, temperament, and/or energy level. (Primary care experience includes ownership, fostering, or dog sitting as an adult, not a dog you grew up with.) Energy level:High – Needs a daily 2-hour (or longer) window of quick paced exercise each morning in addition to potty break strolls (10-30 min each). May also need another 40+ minute walk in the afternoon as well as significant opportunities to socialize outside the home and engage in mental stimulation activities at home like tricks training practice, chew items, and puzzle toys. (This is regardless of dog size – many small breeds were designed for lots of activity and will exhibit unwanted behavior when they’re understimulated.)  TOLERANCE TO CITYADVENTURE pup – Unfazed by the sights and sounds of the city. Loves the beach and the trail. POTTY TRAINING Work In Progress -- On the way and learning! Has to be monitored as Shyla is learning to express the need to go outside.really well so far :)  Comfort Level with StrangersSocial butterfly – Wants to be friends with everyone who walks by, loves anyone who will stop to say hello.  Social with dogs?Yes – Good with most other dogs (sizes, breeds, etc.). Needs to learn boundaries, as her high energy can be a lot for other dogs. Overall enjoys socializing with other canines Social with children?  (ALWAYS requires adult supervision)Sort of – some puppies enjoy interacting with children, others get easily overwhelmed by their energy and attention. Regardless, most puppies are not a great match for a home with kids under age 8 because they go through intense mouthy play and rambunctious phases and often accidentally hurt young kids while playing. Children must always be monitored and taught to interact with dogs of any age respectfully.   Social with cats? Not sure – Wants to chase squirrels and birds so may not be a good match for a home with cats, rabbits, etc. Mouthy BehaviorNeeds training and working on it! – Is either still in the puppy stage or was never trained. Tries to put their mouth on your hands when playing or needs attention, grabs the leash, chews on your personal belongings. Seperation Anxiety (Please leave your foster dog home alone every day for at least 20 minutes.)Adjusting – Might cry for a few minutes when you first leave the house but settles pretty quickly and has no problem being left alone otherwise. Leash MannersGetting the hang of it – Probably hasn’t been on a leash much in their life but figuring it out. Might be a mild puller but responds to correction. Cuddle Bug LevelMedium – Likes to snuggle! Because of teething, she is often looking to chew on something. When her adult teeth come in, I would imagine that she would be a cuddle bug at a high level. Behavior with childrenMaybe for age 12 and up – Is either big and energetic (okay with kids big enough not to get knocked down) or too rambunctious (could be comfortable with older children that can be extra gentle) JUMPING ON PEOPLE TO SAY HELLOWork in Progress! Needs training – Very excited to greet everyone and has no idea how to do so politely. Jumps up on most strangers or other dogs that go by. In puppy phase or wasn’t trained as a young adult. We are currently sitting before anyone. She is very intelligent and listens to the correction. CRATE TRAININGYep/mostly – Seems comfortable in the crate, may whine a little at first but settles pretty quickly. We use the crate when we leave the pup alone and/or at night. Medical status:Healthy as far as we know. Up to date on their DHPP, Bordetella, and Rabies vaccines; heartworm tested if coming from Tennessee or Puerto Rico; spayed/neutered; microchipped; treated with dewormer upon intake How did this dog end up with Social Tees? Most of our dogs come via partner groups who help us save them from shelters where they are at risk of euthanasia in Tennessee, Los Angeles, and Puerto Rico. There are very few spay/neuter resources there and many more animals in those areas than there are people to adopt them. Rescue groups like ours bring them to the northeast where the desire for pets like these allows us to save their lives.  PLEASE NOTE: We cannot guarantee any breed mix, exact age, or full grown size (if the dog is under a year old). We do our best with very educated guesses. This animal is not at the Social Tees office, all are in foster homes. LEARN MORE ABOUT US: socialteesnyc.org and Instagram @socialteesnyc ##2709549##
