Candi is a fun loving, playful, active Shepherd mix, who is fully vetted, HW neg and microchipped. Though she does get along with most dogs, she would probably do best in a home where she is the only fur baby, receiving all the attention. Candi is house broken, but as far as being crated...she prefers to not be confined, so we don't currently crate her. Candi loves to go for walks, though she is very strong and wants to lead! She needs a strong hand and leash training. She's a smart girl, and has learned to open the back door at her foster home. Candi LOVES to have her people with her most of the time, so a family who is home most of the time, would be ideal. Unfortunately, I am unable to keep Princess due to financial difficulties. It is breaking my heart to let her go, but she deserves a good home. Princess is 4 years old, healthy and happy. She is super sweet and loves everybody, including kids and other animal, including cats. She is spayed and house trained. Princess is high energy but trained and takes commands well. She would do great in a home with kids and a big back yard to run and play. She is leash trained and loves walks. Though she is high energy, she also loves affection and cuddling. She deserves a good home where she can run and play as much as possible. Princess is free to a good home who will love her and welcome her into the family.

Lando was recently returned to the rescue. It was a very difficult decision, but he is a little too careless to be around small children. All Lando wants in life is to play and to cuddle. He is very affectionate and very high energy. At mealtime, he will sit and wait for his food. Lando loves to play with balls and frisbees--he fetches and tugs. He is a little reactive with other dogs but with careful introductions he does better. Lando doesn't do well with lots of activity so he'll do better in a quiet neighborhood and a large yard or someone with lots of land. He has been working with a trainer and is becoming much better mannered. He just wants to please!

Carla was adopted in October 2020 but due to Covid, the owner could no longer afford to keep her. She is very active and loves chasing balls. Carla can be protective in the house. Her ideal companion will be a submissive young male. Carla likes to be the boss. She is not crate trained and does not do well in a crate or if left alone too long. She guards her home and needs someone who understands this breed as a working and protective dog. When first meeting new people she should be approached with caution - do not crowd her. The adopter needs to let Carla approach for affection until you have gained her trust. When a dog has been moved out of a home they become wary and it takes time for them to understand the new adopter is the forever home. She will need time to adjust and trust you and she will be a lifelong best friend to you. She may not do well with younger children as they have a tendency to want to get too close to befriend a dog. Since Carla is not housed at DRNT let us know if you want to meet her so we can get her to Grand Prairie.

Skittles might be the perfect family dog. Although we haven't had her around kids, she is sweet and calm. She does fine with all the other large dogs and is not food aggressive. The previous owner who had her almost three years said she did not get along with their small female dog. Please bring any pets with you to meet her. She takes treats gently and will sit when asked. Skittles walked easily on leash and is outgoing and affectionate. She didn't jump up on people and loves attention. This little gal appears to be perfect for anyone who will love her, but a family with children might consider her for her gentle demeanor. Since Skittles is not housed at DRNT, let us know if you want to meet her so we can get her to Grand Prairie.

Update: Joey's adopter had to move and can't keep his dog with him. They say he is sweet and very playful. Loves chewing on hard toys, playing with small and large dogs at dog parks and car rides. Also loves tennis balls but can chew into pieces which need to be taken away. Like many dogs, Joey should not be suddenly hugged or disturbed when sleeping since he startles. He should be in a home with adults who know not to disturb a sleeping dog. He is house and crate trained.Previous to this adoption, Joey was an owner surrender with great house manners including being completely potty trained. He does not jump up on people or counters. Joey sits and takes treats gently. He slept in a crate at night but had free reign of the house during the day. Joey does like to chase cats. He will chase a ball and will return it (almost every time). Joey's ears were cropped but not properly posted so they don't stand.
