Story
Maya (A141167) is a 6-month-old GSD x Lab mix who weighed nearly 30 pounds on intake and is still growing! 02/12/26 This super smart little lady is Maya! Maya knows quite a few commands and is eager to show them off, especially for a treat. However, the one thing she hasnâ&#194&#128&#194&#153t been able to master is potty training, which led to her surrender. We hope that, starting fresh in a new home and with a patient owner who is willing to work with her, she will be able to master this in no time. Maya would also benefit from being kennel-trained. She was stated to LOVE people and really wants to be a good girl. She is a young pup who would benefit from working with a certified trainer and getting on a consistent routine. Maya was known to jump on people, likes to chew, and to be quite vocal. Her surrendering owner noted that they believed she has separation anxiety. We encourage her next owner to discuss with their vet on the best ways to help Miss Maya as she ages. Maya did grow up in a home with a cat, but it was noted that she did play roughly with the kitty (which not all cats might appreciate). She also was said to be playful with other dogs, but again like to rumble and tumble. It is important that appropriate introductions are made to help set her up for success! If you are interested in meeting Miss Maya Paya, please let us know! February 19, 2026, 4:58 pm

Story
This is Ellie! We took her in to help some friends. She does get along with our other dog, but she has been around a dog she did not get along with so I think it would depend on personality compatibility. We’ve not seen her with cats. She is very sweet, snuggly and has been good with our kids. We were told she is just over a year old, we have not had her long ourselves but she is house trained besides some chewing still, and knows basic commands. I think with the right people she will be able to learn a lot! She is a barker and is not a fan of her kennel, but does have one. She needs a vet visit. She loves to be outside! She does ok on a leash, but was not leash trained when we got her.

Story
Justice was able to be seen by Dr Snyder with Polar Eyes Veterinary Ophthalmologyduring his recent visit to Fairbanks. After a careful examination Justice’s diagnosis to her left eye is Phthisical globe – secondary to previous full thickness corneal perforation A phthisical globe is the end-stage, shrunken, and disorganized eye resulting from severe trauma, such as a full-thickness corneal perforation. Caused by chronic inflammation, low ocular pressure, and, in this case, severe perforation, which leads to permanent vision loss. I cannot imagine the pain this puppy was put through. Since she was not surrendered when it happened her eye is no longer painful. If she would have landed in a safe place after it happened surgery would have been done immediately. But now we are dealing with an eye which is no longer painful. So to schedule a surgery to remove it serves no purpose. If, however in her future her eye develops chronic conjunctivitis or discharge the removal of her eye needs to be strongly considered. Even with everything she has endured in her life, she is a very happy go-lucky girl. She greets everyone with enthusiasm, she is not shy, her tail is always going. And that’s the same with her brother. Both puppies have fantastic personalities. They kennel wonderfully, use the dog door to go potty and play together nicely. They are not a bonded pair and do not need to be adopted together. I was told they are German Shepherd / Malinois mix. They are both available for adoption. Folks who have an approved application on file can arrange a visit with one. Applications are found on the rescue’s website at agsrescue.com under forms. I want to again Thank Dr Snyder for fitting us in his busy schedule while he was here in Fairbanks, and for taking his time to explain everything in order for me to understand Justice’s medical needs.
