Story
Gil Located in Dalton NE Chihuahua mix  07/28/2021 Birthday Dog friendly Cat friendliness unknown but likely fine  Will be fine with older children who are CALM and have dog manners, he is too WAY small to be manhandled or played with rough Not fully house trained. If you put him outside he will go but he will not usually go out on his own. This could change in a home with less dogs. Whomever adopts him needs to be willing to work with him on this.  He is crate trained and as long as he is crated with Ike he's fine. He must be able to sleep under the covers in his new home as he adores it and he's slept like this for a solid majority of his life.  Has learned some basic commands and has amazing recall  LOTS of LOUD opinions and believes that he is a Doberman and fierce when barking if there is a strange noise, usually from under blankets. He really isn't an apartment appropriate dog, unless you're looking to get out of your lease, then he is the PERFECT dog  He is VERY shy at first and will need a home that understands it may be a bit of a slower process than a usual dog, if you rush it he will never come around and will end up returned so this is a serious aspect that you as an adopter need to consider realistically and carefully. We do not want him returned so you will need to be 100% committed to the process.  Needs to be adopted with his sibling Ike Likes to sleep under the covers, or in "cave" beds Fully vetted  8lbs approx These 2 boys are Ike (larger brindle) and Gilligan (smaller tan). These boys have been with us their whole lives (born 7/28/21) and while their foster absolutely LOVES them they deserve their FURever home. The issue is that they must go TOGETHER, everyone has wanted Gilligan but no one was also interested in Ike. These boys have the sweetest most healthy and delightful bond that splitting them up just isn’t in their best interest and would be cruel. Gil is more outgoing and comes around to ppl faster than Ike who is more shy. Gil is 8lbs packed with hilarious antics and loves to cuddle. Ike is also a touch mischievous but is more independent than Gil. Once both boys get to know and trust you both are crazy sweet. Together they are a perfect pair. They play perfectly together and with other dogs extremely well. Ike does watch out for Gilligan, especially around larger dogs, as Gilligan seems to have no idea he's bitty, he absolutely adores the fosters huge Saint Bernard and other large dogs but when it gets rowdy there comes Ime to make sure Gil is safe. If you’re interested in adding 2 precious little boys to your family don’t hesitate to reach out! Both boys are dog friendly. Both are likely fine with cats. Both would be fine with older non heathen kids (Gil is only 8lbs so needs children who understand “gentle”). Both are shy but not nippy at all, they will hide not fight. Both do ok with housetraining they could be more consistent but there is a lot going on in the current foster home so it's very inconsistent. Both love cuddling with each other, cuddling with their ppl, cuddling with other dogs and both are use to sleeping with their human and each other. These 2 are the most delightful pair and deserve the most amazing home. We are NOT looking for a home that really just wants Gilligan but is willing to take Ike to get him. Both dogs are precious and deserves someone who loves them both equally and as much as their foster mom does.  Original Description, which is still 100% trueGil was the 3rd pup born and 100% the most needy. He is 1/3 the size of his brother but he makes up for it in pure gumption! He has no fear, he loves to snuggle he's the tiniest little man with such HUGE personality. To this peanut every day is an adventure and he is down to live every moment to its fullest! He is going to keep someone on their toes and we cannot wait to meet his people!  $200.00 Adoption Fee  (Which is considered a non refundable donation and being we are a 501c3 organization it is tax deductible. Story
Georgia aka Gigi Located in the Sidney NE area Birthday 11/15/21Tibetan Spaniel fusion is our best guess, momma is MamieGreat with other dogs MUST HAVE AT LEAST 1 OTHER DOG TO CUDDLE WITH IN THE HOME NOT UP FOR DISCUSSIONWould likely be fine with catsKid friendly with children WITH DOG MANNERSHouse trained but likely will have accidents when she moves homesCrate trained for when her foster leaves the house, although she also stays out without destroying anything.  She sleeps through the night with her foster. She is very smart and easy to motivate. Fully vetted12lbs approx  Gigi was from a litter of pups and for whatever reason she was completely overlooked. From the time she was a baby baby she was more interested in hanging with the adult dogs than the puppies and spent most of her time napping on the couch or various dog beds with her besties. We quickly fell in love with this 2lb girl who showed no concern cuddling up to a 70lb APBT or Saint Bernard for nap time. She is now full grown around 12 lbs with gazelle like legs, the same soulful eyes and adorable expressive ears. We thought she would be one of the first pups to get adopted, especially with how photogenic she is, however her family has alluded us so far.  As it turns out it may have been a good thing that Gigi has stayed with us longer as we have had the chance to really get to know her. Gigi is VERY SHY with people. She will need a quiet and calm home. She will need a home with people who will give her the time and love she needs to flourish.  Gigi is impossible not to love. She is playful but as she's grown she's become more independent. She can be a bit mischievous, she is just very impish in her personality, like a little silly elf. She can be a touch protective of her food but I wouldn’t say she is food reactive and likely in a home with less dogs the small protective issue will subside. We also believe that in a home with less dogs her personality will blossom even more and some of her shyness may subside. Gigi is a very sweet soul who needs a gentle and patient home to love her forever.  Gigi would LOVE a home with her momma Meep BUT we understand that that may not be possible with Gigi being she and Meep being VERY unsure around men. Mamie couldn't be handled and as such she and her pups needed a special place to land. This is where we came in. We pulled Mamie and her pups and they arrived in early December. They spent the holidays with us as they continued to blossom and come into their own little puppy personalities and momma Mamie settled in and let her guard down, a bit. These pups are absolutely fantastic little ones. They have the funnest personalities and are absolutely adorable!  WE DO NOT HAVE A FACILITY ALL OUR DOGS ARE LOCATED IN FOSTER HOMES. Story
MUST HAVE PREVIOUS BULLDOG OWNERSHIP EXPERIENCE.  HOW IS HE STILL AVAILABLE?!?He's PERFECT IS IT BECAUSE HES BIG? IS IT BECAUSE HE'S NOT A PUP?  Cletus Located in the Sidney NE area Alapaha Blue Blood Bulldog fusion 5-7 Years old Dog Friendly  Cat friendliness unknown, he's lunged at one but then also didn't care about others ‍ Does fine with kids BUT he's a bull in a china shop and will knock small kids over so children 10 and over WITH DOG MANNERS only House trained Rings bells on the door to go out Knows commands however if he will do them without being bribed by food is questionable Will crate however he isn't the biggest fan, if you plan to crate him there better be a bed in there that feels like a freaking cloudand a giant hug combined Will mosey to visit other humans if given the chance so a secure fence is a must Can NOT handle EXTREME TEMPS Must be allowed on the couch and in your bed or have a bed as inviting as yours  Loves to sunbathe but doesn't realize when it's too hot, so a dog door won't work and you will need to call him back in.   CANNOT use any training methods besides positive reinforcement, this isn't up for debate, he is way too passive a dog for us to allow him to be trained with ANY adverse methods. If you plan to put a "shock collar/Ecollar/Training collar on this dog move along  Needs high quality food and multiple supplements to maintain his heath and thrive in life needs his wrinkles cleaned daily  The happiest of goobers Not an outdoor activity dog  Fully vetted 90+lbs  Did you watch Tommy Boy and laugh hysterically? Do you think that “Saturday Night Live” in the early to mid 90’s was the best? Do you need someone to make you laugh and smile all day? Would you love a companion who’s world revolves around you? How about a gentleman that is so in tune with your emotions he knows exactly when you need it, a laugh or a giant hug? If you answered “yes” to the questions above, then guess what WE HAVE THE DOG FOR YOU!! He is an Alapaha Blue Blood Bulldog named Cletus.    For whatever reason we cannot figure out we have had Cletus for 4 over years, no idea how or why because he is the best dog ever. Cletus also would love more attention and lap/couch cuddles than he gets in his foster with all their dogs. Cletus is literally Chris Farley in a dog. He is the happiest and sweetest soul, just a true goober to the core. Cletus’s foster is home a majority of the day BUT HE doesn’t suffer separation anxiety or hasn’t in the 4+ years he’s been with his foster. Cletus will crate but doesn’t like it, he’s not destructive so a crate really isn’t necessary, if he has to go in one is must be very large with a bed like a snuggly cupcake. He would prefer a home with other dogs who like other dogs on the rare occasion he wants to play. He is a GIANT dog, about 120lbs. We believe he is an Alapaha Blue Blood Bulldog mix.  He is house trained and rings the bell on the door to go out, if you don’t listen, he will come over, a maximum of 6” away from you and stare at you until you move and let him out. He is an incredibly passive dog, he will correct another dog gently or low growl in certain particular situations, Cletus is a dog who “uses his words.” In fact in 4+ years and meeting over 75+ dogs, the only dog he has only had one angsty interaction and that was the fault of the other dog.     Cletus makes no apologies for who he is, he is an all or nothing dog. “All” for Cletus includes  sleeping in your bed, taking up residence on the couch or lounge chair, and every now and then sitting in your lap or close to it. Cletus loves to cuddle with other dogs but doesn’t like other dogs to cuddle him without his permission, it annoys him, I know it sounds weird, but it’s literally his only hang up. He will just low growl and if the unwelcome, space invading, cuddle monster doesn’t heed his warning, he will just get up, in a loud dramatic huff, move to another spot and glare at you because obviously this is your fault.    Cletus loves dogs, all shapes and sizes, I have photos of him snuggling with a chihuahua (4lbs), a few 75lbs bully mixes to a  (125lbs) Saint Bernard. When he moves homes, (which will only be happening 1 time), he may be a touch overwhelmed. We suggest that while he gets to know and trust you/his new owners and his new environment, that you go slow with dog introductions to avoid overwhelming him more. He has been with his foster for years so he is going to take some patience.    Please remember that  he is a giant BRACHYCEPHALIC dog, he CANNOT do extreme temperatures hot or cold however he doesn't know that. He does like to sunbathe for short periods of time outside when it’s warm but it’s your job to make sure he comes in and that he doesn’t get sunburned. He will also tolerate going outside to potty in the winter, (however the cold isn't his favorite). This is not a great dog for camping unless it’s closer to “glamping.” Cletus is not a dog meant for hikes or even for an active home, he couldn’t keep up and he deserves more than a home where he is alone while you’re out frolicking up a mountain or spending a hot day at a lake with no AC. We would like him to stay in western NE/CO/WY area as there is so much less humidity and it makes it so much easier for him to breathe. He will also need a high quality food and multiple supplements to remain thriving and in good health. He is a bulldog and thus a higher maintenance breed. He will need Omega 3,6,9 fish oil. He will need joint supplements beyond just glucosamine chondroitin. Currently he takes several supplements and we would strongly prefer he stays on the same or very similar supplements.   In 2024 Cletus got a cold that he could t seem to get rid of. Finally he was able to get rid of it but during the multiple vet visits it was discovered that he had developed the early stages of megaesophagus. Currently he eats from a raised bowl and he is always fed with water combined with his food. He has no other symptoms. This doesn't mean as he gets older that he won't develop more symptoms so that is something that you need to prepare for. We do believe that part of the reason it took him longer to get rid of his URI was in part due to this condition. This is another reason why it is so important for him to stay on his supplements.  We thought this lug would have had his own  perfect home years ago. Yet he is still here and we believe it's due to his size. It certainly isn't due to his personality because he is the most charasmatic delicious mega sized muffin alive. We are still hoping, even after 4+ years that his PERFECT HOME is out there somewhere. Until his perfect home is found he is spoiled and EPICALLY ADORED in his "foster home!" This dog is such a prize. He will NOT be leaving to any home that we don’t think is deserving of him. He deserves the most AMAZING home on the planet and we’ll be damned if we let him out of our care for anything less.    If you think Cletus would be a fantastic fit for your home, your family, your lifestyle and you know you can afford the financial commitment to Cletus’s high quality and higher cost existence please reach out!!!    We cannot wait to meet his new family and are looking very forward to Cletus’s next chapter in his life story. Story
From Abandonment - To Rescue - To the Front Page - To Healing    LOOKING FOR ADOPTIVE HOME (or FOSTER) ASAP IN THE NE/CO/WY/SD   SIMON   Located in Dalton, NE American Pit Bull Terrier  1-2 years approx Dog friendly See below Kids over 10 would be best due to his size  Potty trained  Secure fence recommended Fully Vetted (on the 24th) Appears to be blind in one eye  60 pounds   Simon was pretty notorious in the Sidney, NE area for a while back in March when he was dumped by a truck driver at a truck stop. Hundreds of people followed the posts on social media of his plight, the photos of his multiple sightings in the first several days, and then his eventual rescue. It was a heartbreaking story of a dog suffering the ultimate betrayal and then spending days looking for his betrayer and then finally running in fear when that person couldn’t be found. He was terrified but kind. It was very difficult to witness and hear about.  Irregardless of the dedicated efforts of multiple caring individuals as well as law enforcement, Simon refused all help and eventually started wandering further and further. It wasn’t until he wandered into a fenced yard that he was captured; and then his story became front page news.  Simon is safe now, but his story is far from over. SIMON NEEDS A HOME!! Until then he’s just another dumped homeless dog. Is that what we want? Simon has had his vaccinations and will be neutered and microchipped on the 24th. From there he needs his much deserved dedicated family.    Simon is a very nice and sweet dog. He is not destructive. Does well in a crate. He’s quiet. He’s potty trained. He is 100% dog friendly and non confrontational in any way. He may take a minute to warm up when meeting new people (who can blame him?) but he comes around fast. Cats are an unknown. He’s VERY interested and HIGHLY focused. But he doesn’t exhibit aggression. At this point it’s hard to say without a formal test. But my gut is saying a home without cats would be best.    If you are interested in Simon PLEASE reach out and apply. He’s very deserving and loyal and you will not be disappointed; I can assure you.  Sidenote: Simon is a dog worthy of his own Insta page, this guy doesn’t take a bad photo !!   Please contact us if interested or have questions.    To Contact Us Message the Page  Facebook Message Cilena Dueker TEXT Cilena at 308-249-4308 Fill out our Adoption Application at https://www.highplainspaw.org/adoption-application Fill out our Foster Application at  https://www.highplainspaw.org/foster-application Email us at highplainspaw@gmail.com   $200.00 Adoption Fee   (The $200.00 is considered a nonrefundable donation and being we are a 501c3 organization it is tax deductible. Story
Located in the Sidney NE area  Maltese fusion  2-3 years old Dog friendly ( 1 , 1 , )  Cat friendliness unknown Would be fine with kids  Food reactive with other dogs will need to be fed separately  we would say 97% house trained and doing well (he can mark every now and then but once told know he immediately stops, and smiles, and won’t do it again)  Crate trained and is currently working on  basic commands funny and such a clown Fine off leash he listens and has great recall Will need grooming so make sure you have that in your budget Fully vetted 12-15ish lbs    Are you someone who sleeps with a teddy bear? Are you someone who loves to laugh? Are you experienced with class clowns? Are you someone who wants to get the most out of every day? Do you need to smile more? If so !!! Meet Nico. Nico is some sort of small white floof known as a “designer dog,” but I don’t tell him that, he’s cocky enough. Nico is SO stinking’ cute, plus he smiles, which makes him kinda irresistible. He literally smiles at you every time you catch him doing something wrong, which is both irritating and hilarious at the same time. He does well for grooming, thank god because good luck trying to brush the little monster if he doesn’t want you to. He is also great with other dogs. In fact Nico spends a majority of his day hardcore playing with other dogs which is why he MUST have at least 1 playful dog, multiple playful dogs would be even better. Yes, he does settle down on the couch watching true crime documentaries or some Hallmark Christmas movies. He also adores a solid nap, he’s into snuggling and lounge time on someone’s lap. He did use to nip when super excited, we have eliminated that behavior but we don’t know if he will backslide when rehomed, so because of that we’re saying no young kids, we don’t want to hear about him “biting” a kid not do we want to set him up to fail in a home that doesn’t get this. . He’s an incredibly sweet boy and bouncing around from home to home isn’t an option we want for any dog but especially not for him. Nico is kinda like that annoying little brother you never wanted but now that he’s here you adore him . Sometimes he annoys dogs until they play with him, or attack him he’s down either way and thinks it’s a blasty. He absolutely LOVES to play and just have a canine playmate or playmates in the home. Further when you repremand him, for, let’s say, digging in the mud, or anything that’s unacceptable behavior, he smiles at you, HUGE SMILE, puts his fluffy ears up and sashays away with his tail doing a “queen wave” (to make sure you get the sass) consoling himself that he’s living with such obtuse humans. He likes to sleep with you and now after being in his foster for months he is happy to snuggle in and sleep through the night, on your pillow, by your head. This may transfer to his new home but if not it just takes him a bit to learn to snuggle in like a normal dog, once he’s there however there is no going back haha.  In his current foster home he doesn’t much care for the husband. His foster momma stays home and is responsible for all his care, sleeping arrangements, feedings, training etc. so that could have something to do with it. Nico doesn’t try to bite him or anything but he ignores the husband for the most part and barks at him incessantly if he tries to speak to him. It’s probably just him though, this happens somewhat regularly.  So while Nico does have some annoying quirks, some puppy behavior, he’s mischievous, sometimes doesn’t read social cues very well, can be a scamp and an instigator, yet, at the same time, he is the sweetest, funniest, cuddliest, happiest, cheekiest lil man and is so deserving of the most fantastic home and he will be extremely missed by his foster family and their dogs. He’s about 2-3 years old and is 12-15lbs. He’s fully vetted and ready to go to the most perfect family. We cannot wait to find his family because anyone worthy of this one in a million lil dude is going to be .  Please share so he can find someone who wants a lot of personality in a precious little floof package. $.   ( 5013 . , ' .) http://www.highplainspaw.org https://www.facebook.com/HighPlainsPAW : https://www.facebook.com/groups/836373273962895/?ref=share https://www.highplainspaw.org/adoption-application highplainspaw@gmail.com (402)957-1578  . .  means, altered, up to date on vaccines, HW tested if applicable and on flea/tick preventative (chemical or natural, aka no buggies)    , .
