Story
If you've ever wanted a Husky with plenty of personality, Winter is ready to apply for the position. This beautiful 5-year-old came to H.A.L.O. when her owner was facing a move and spending too much time away at work. Winter has lived with teenagers, another dog, and even a cat, and she generally loves everyone she meets. She gets especially excited around people and other animals, which can sometimes lead to a little pulling on leash as she rushes over to make new friends.Winter is mostly housebroken and will usually ask to go outside, though if she's ignored or left alone for too long, she may leave a reminder by the door. Like many Huskies, she's also incredibly smart—and not always in ways that benefit her humans. Unlocked doors are merely suggestions, standard crates are no match for her escape skills, and if she gains access to the house while unsupervised, any reachable trash can may become a snack bar. When she's not plotting her next adventure, Winter enjoys car rides, cuddling with her people, carrying around her beloved giant teddy bear, and snuggling with her blanket. She knows sit, down, and shake, although whether she chooses to show off those skills depends entirely on her mood. And squirrels? Let's just say she considers them her sworn enemies.Winter is looking for a family that appreciates the intelligence, independence, and occasional mischief that Huskies are famous for. In return, she'll provide endless entertainment, plenty of affection, and enough personality to fill an entire house.Requirements: Martingale Collar; Escape ArtistAll of our dogs and cats are spayed/neutered, up to date with age appropriate vaccinations, heart worm or feleuk/FIV tested, fecal tested, rabies and tag, and microchipped before being placed in your home. Our adoption fee helps cover this cost.

Story
Meet Penny — a beautiful reddish-gold pit/hound mix with soulful eyes, adorable little neck tufts that seem to have come from who-knows-where, and a personality that keeps people smiling. One of the first things you’ll notice about Penny is her uniquely expressive eyes — a little buggy-looking in the absolute cutest way possible — giving her a constant look of curiosity and charm. Penny originally came to us from a local vet office, though we unfortunately do not know the circumstances surrounding why she was surrendered there. Upon arriving with us, Penny underwent heartworm treatment and has completed it successfully, so she’s now feeling great and ready to find a home of her own. She’s an energetic girl who enjoys exploring the world around her — especially if snacks are involved. Penny is very food motivated, making her a great candidate for continued training and bonding with her future family. While she can be a little aloof at times and marches to the beat of her own drum, she has a fun, lovable personality that grows on you quickly. She also feels very strongly that bath time is unnecessary. Penny has done well meeting other dogs here at the shelter and also scored well when introduced to a cat. Based on her easygoing nature, we think she would likely do just fine in a home with kids as well. Another bonus? Penny keeps her kennel impressively clean, so we believe she is likely housebroken too.Penny is currently listed as a foster-to-adopt placement, meaning H.A.L.O. will continue covering her monthly heartworm prevention and her required 6-month post-treatment retest, which will confirm that she is officially heartworm negative. If you’re looking for a unique, goofy, beautiful girl with plenty of personality, expressive eyes, and a love language centered around treats, Penny may just be your perfect match.Requirements: Martingale Collar; Foster To Adopt (Heartworm Retest)All of our dogs and cats are spayed/neutered, up to date with age appropriate vaccinations, heart worm or feleuk/FIV tested, fecal tested, rabies and tag, and microchipped before being placed in your home. Story
Trooper is a sweet, easygoing French Bulldog with a big heart and an even bigger love for the simple things in life. His favorite activities include going for walks, playing in short bursts of excitement, taking long cozy naps, and soaking up all the belly rubs and affection he can get. If there’s a soft spot on the couch or a sunny patch on the floor, Trooper will find it and promptly roll over to kick his feet up in pure bliss. He’s a quiet companion who rarely barks and prefers a calm, relaxed environment. Trooper can be a little cautious around new people, especially strangers and loud, energetic children, but he is never aggressive—he simply keeps his distance until he feels comfortable. The good news is that “getting comfortable” doesn’t take long for him, especially when patience and kindness are involved.Trooper’s biggest special need is that he was born incontinent, so he requires a caregiver who is understanding and attentive to his bathroom needs. Because of this, he will do best with someone who is home more often or willing to accommodate a bit of extra care throughout the day.He has been through several homes where he was deeply loved, but ultimately found his needs to be more than expected. What Trooper truly needs now is a stable, patient home that sees him for who he is—a gentle, affectionate little dog who wants nothing more than comfort, routine, and companionship. In the right home, Trooper is going to be someone’s loyal shadow, nap buddy, and quiet best friend.Requirements: Martingale Collar; Maintenance Regarding IncontinenceAll of our dogs and cats are spayed/neutered, up to date with age appropriate vaccinations, heart worm or feleuk/FIV tested, fecal tested, rabies and tag, and microchipped before being placed in your home. Story
Meet Ghost (aka Beastie) 👻❤️Ghost may be named after something spooky, but this 7-year-old Lab-ish gentleman is really just a big softie whose greatest passions are belly rubs, butt scratches, car rides, and cuddling on the couch.Ghost came to H.A.L.O. through no fault of his own when his family was facing a move, demanding work schedules, and financial challenges that made it impossible to keep him. They made sure we knew just how special he is: housebroken, good with dogs and cats, trustworthy when left alone, and so quiet that he rarely ever barks.Described as affectionate, gentle, docile, and well-behaved, Ghost knows sit, down, heel, and even sit pretty. His only behavioral quirk? He gets a little excited on leash. After all, life is pretty exciting when you're a happy dog.Ghost does have a few medical needs. Like many white dogs, he struggles with allergies and is currently on a prescription hydrolyzed protein diet. He also has arthritis and evidence of a previous knee repair, so he takes daily medications and supplements to keep him comfortable. Thanks to his treatment plan, he's still able to enjoy his favorite activities—mainly relaxing wherever his people are.His biggest dislike? The vet. While he's a sweetheart in everyday life, veterinary visits require sedation and a muzzle. Baths aren't high on his list either, although peanut butter helps smooth negotiations.Ghost isn't looking for an action-packed lifestyle. He's looking for a loving home where he can spend his golden years being the affectionate couch potato he was born to be. If you're searching for a loyal companion with a heart as big as his head, Ghost might just be your perfect match. He is currently being cared for in a foster home while he awaits his forever home, ask our staff about the steps to meeting this sweet boy!Requirements: Martingale Collar; Arthritis/Joint Medications; Prescription Diet (Allergies)All of our dogs and cats are spayed/neutered, up to date with age appropriate vaccinations, heart worm or feleuk/FIV tested, fecal tested, rabies and tag, and microchipped before being placed in your home. Story
Hello there! My name is Gandolf, and while my face might be frosted like a wise old wizard, my heart is as youthful and vibrant as ever. I’m a charming 12-year-old pit mix with a magical ability to make you smile every single day. My journey hasn’t been easy—after being abandoned by my previous owner, I’ve spent the last two years and 10 months at the shelter. They’ve taken wonderful care of me, but what I truly long for is a forever home where I can live out my golden years with someone who understands and cherishes me. I’m a people-lover through and through. There’s nothing I enjoy more than cuddling up close to my favorite humans, basking in the warmth of their love. I’m an excellent companion for car rides (I ride like a pro!) and a devoted fan of Nylabones—those are my absolute favorite chew toys. And did I mention I know how to shake paws? Yep, I’ll charm you with my wizardly tricks.Even though I’m a bit older, I still have moments of youthful energy—get ready for some joyful zoomies when I’m feeling playful! Of course, I also know how to relax and will happily spend quiet moments by your side.I do come with some quirks (don’t we all?). I have anxiety, so I can get nervous when left alone. I also need time and patience in new situations—I’m not a fan of being rushed or pushed into things I’m unsure about. But don’t worry—with a little understanding and a slow approach, I’ll warm up and show you just how deeply I can love.Because of my history, I’ve been labeled a bit of a “misfit,” and I need to be the only pet in the home. No other dogs or cats, please—but trust me, I have more than enough love to give. One thing you should know is that I’m on thyroid medication for life. The good news? It’s affordable, my levels are perfectly managed, and I feel great! If you’re not ready to adopt, I’m also available for foster—I just don’t want to spend the rest of my life in a shelter. I have so much love to give, and I’m ready to share it with someone special. If you’re looking for a loyal, loving companion with a quirky, wise soul, I’m your guy. Let’s make the rest of my life a magical adventure—together.Love, Gandolf Requirements: Martingale Collar; Separation Anxiety; Thyroid Meds; MisfitAll of our dogs and cats are spayed/neutered, up to date with age appropriate vaccinations, heart worm or feleuk/FIV tested, fecal tested, rabies and tag, and microchipped before being placed in your home. Story
Leo 🐾Some dogs have pasts that break your heart. Leo's is one we can only imagine. At just 6 months old, Leo has already been through more than any puppy should. He was rescued from a bad situation in Bahrain by a South Florida rescue before being transferred to us for a chance at a better life. We don't know exactly what he endured, but somehow, he came through it with his sweet, playful spirit still shining. Our best guess is Greyhound/Shepherd, but he's definitely a mystery mix! He's friendly, excitable, incredibly playful, and hasn't let his difficult beginning steal his love for life. He seems like he'd do well with dogs and kids and is just a happy little guy who loves having fun.Leo could potentially live with a cat, but his temperament test showed that he'd probably enjoy chasing one. He's young and still learning his manners, so he'd need a family willing to patiently teach him that cats aren't toys. And then there's Daisy. They've shared the hardest chapter of their lives together, and we'd love for them to have the chance to share the happiest one, too. We would love to see them adopted together, but we'll consider separate homes if the right families come along.Leo has already survived the hard part. Now he deserves a safe home, a loving family, and the chance to finally just be a puppy. 🐾❤️Requirements: Martingale CollarAll of our dogs and cats are spayed/neutered, up to date with age appropriate vaccinations, heart worm or feleuk/FIV tested, fecal tested, rabies and tag, and microchipped before being placed in your home.
