Story
Hi there, I’m Gatsby! Some dogs just have that special spark—and I’ve been told I’ve got it. I’m three years old, weigh about 40 pounds, and am the perfect size for cuddles on the couch or adventures outside. I’m the kind of pup who happily makes friends with other dogs, leans in for snuggles, and wins people over with my gentle heart and soulful eyes.I do have something unique about me: I have a condition called megaesophagus. That might sound big and scary, but really it just means I eat sitting upright in my special Bailey Chair so gravity can do the work for me. After a few minutes of relaxing in my chair post-meal, I’m ready to get back to being the playful, affectionate guy I am.I don’t think of it as a limitation—it’s just part of my routine. And honestly, it’s a small trade for all the love, loyalty, and joy I’ll bring into your life.Right now, I’m living in a foster home where I’m loved and cared for while I wait for my forever family. If you think that could be you, please fill out an adoption application on our website and call the Front Office to learn more about how to make me a permanent part of your life.I promise, once you meet me, you’ll see what makes me so special. I’m ready when you are.Requirements: Martingale Collar; Megaesophagus (Eats in a special upright chair)All of our dogs and cats are spayed/neutered, up to date with age appropriate vaccinations, heart worm or feleuk/FIV tested, fecal tested, rabies and tag, and microchipped before being placed in your home. Our adoption fee helps cover this cost.

Story
Some dogs dream of scaling mountains. Kodiak dreams of air conditioning, a comfy couch, and minding his own business. This 5-year-old Alaskan Malamute is a gentle fluffy giant with an old-soul personality and a talent for perfecting the art of relaxation. Equal parts majestic and mildly ridiculous, Kodiak prefers leisurely strolls over cardio, cool weather over sunshine, and naps over just about everything else.Kodiak came to us after a rather unfortunate snack choice landed him in emergency surgery — apparently baby socks are *not* part of a balanced diet, despite what Kodiak may have believed at the time. With a new baby in the home and not enough time to manage his habits and needs, his previous family made the difficult decision to help him find a better-suited home. Now fully recovered, Kodiak is ready to start his next chapter with someone who appreciates a mellow companion with a little bit of malamute sass. His former family describes him as a relaxed couch potato, and we couldn’t agree more. He knows “sit” and “paw,” has previously lived well with both dogs and cats, and does best when left safely crated during alone time — mostly because Kodiak occasionally mistakes household objects for appetizers if given the opportunity. While he’s a sweet boy, Kodiak is also a dog who values his boundaries. He prefers calm, respectful interactions and likes to enjoy his meals in peace without interruptions. Because young children often leave tempting items lying around and may not yet understand those boundaries, we are recommending a home with older children only.Kodiak isn’t looking for chaos, marathons, or constant excitement. He’s looking for soft beds, cool floors, quiet companionship, and someone who understands that sometimes the best adventures are simply existing together in comfortable silence. If your ideal best friend is a giant fluffy roommate with excellent lounging skills and just enough personality to keep you laughing, Kodiak is waiting to meet you.Requirements: Martingale Collar; Children 8yrs+All of our dogs and cats are spayed/neutered, up to date with age appropriate vaccinations, heart worm or feleuk/FIV tested, fecal tested, rabies and tag, and microchipped before being placed in your home. Our adoption fee helps cover this cost.

Story
Meet Penny — a beautiful reddish-gold pit/hound mix with soulful eyes, adorable little neck tufts that seem to have come from who-knows-where, and a personality that keeps people smiling. One of the first things you’ll notice about Penny is her uniquely expressive eyes — a little buggy-looking in the absolute cutest way possible — giving her a constant look of curiosity and charm. Penny originally came to us from a local vet office, though we unfortunately do not know the circumstances surrounding why she was surrendered there. Upon arriving with us, Penny underwent heartworm treatment and has completed it successfully, so she’s now feeling great and ready to find a home of her own. She’s an energetic girl who enjoys exploring the world around her — especially if snacks are involved. Penny is very food motivated, making her a great candidate for continued training and bonding with her future family. While she can be a little aloof at times and marches to the beat of her own drum, she has a fun, lovable personality that grows on you quickly. She also feels very strongly that bath time is unnecessary. Penny has done well meeting other dogs here at the shelter and also scored well when introduced to a cat. Based on her easygoing nature, we think she would likely do just fine in a home with kids as well. Another bonus? Penny keeps her kennel impressively clean, so we believe she is likely housebroken too.Penny is currently listed as a foster-to-adopt placement, meaning H.A.L.O. will continue covering her monthly heartworm prevention and her required 6-month post-treatment retest, which will confirm that she is officially heartworm negative. If you’re looking for a unique, goofy, beautiful girl with plenty of personality, expressive eyes, and a love language centered around treats, Penny may just be your perfect match.Requirements: Martingale Collar; Foster To Adopt (Heartworm Retest)All of our dogs and cats are spayed/neutered, up to date with age appropriate vaccinations, heart worm or feleuk/FIV tested, fecal tested, rabies and tag, and microchipped before being placed in your home. Story
Trooper is a sweet, easygoing French Bulldog with a big heart and an even bigger love for the simple things in life. His favorite activities include going for walks, playing in short bursts of excitement, taking long cozy naps, and soaking up all the belly rubs and affection he can get. If there’s a soft spot on the couch or a sunny patch on the floor, Trooper will find it and promptly roll over to kick his feet up in pure bliss. He’s a quiet companion who rarely barks and prefers a calm, relaxed environment. Trooper can be a little cautious around new people, especially strangers and loud, energetic children, but he is never aggressive—he simply keeps his distance until he feels comfortable. The good news is that “getting comfortable” doesn’t take long for him, especially when patience and kindness are involved.Trooper’s biggest special need is that he was born incontinent, so he requires a caregiver who is understanding and attentive to his bathroom needs. Because of this, he will do best with someone who is home more often or willing to accommodate a bit of extra care throughout the day.He has been through several homes where he was deeply loved, but ultimately found his needs to be more than expected. What Trooper truly needs now is a stable, patient home that sees him for who he is—a gentle, affectionate little dog who wants nothing more than comfort, routine, and companionship. In the right home, Trooper is going to be someone’s loyal shadow, nap buddy, and quiet best friend.Requirements: Martingale Collar; Maintenance Regarding IncontinenceAll of our dogs and cats are spayed/neutered, up to date with age appropriate vaccinations, heart worm or feleuk/FIV tested, fecal tested, rabies and tag, and microchipped before being placed in your home. Story
Meet Lola – Your One-and-Only! 🐾After two years in the shelter system, this sweet girl is more than ready to find her forever home—and trust us, she’s worth the wait. Lola has had the chance to spend time in a foster home, and we’ve learned that in a calm, stable environment, she truly thrives.Lola is affectionate, loyal, and just the right amount of sassy. She adores pig ears, chew bones, and lounging in her favorite sunny spots. She’s not a fan of crates or being confined to small spaces, but she’s proven to be totally trustworthy when left to free-roam the house. Give her a cozy couch and a good chew, and she’s set for the afternoon. She can be a bit shy with new people—especially strangers in uniforms (maintenance workers, we’re looking at you)—but once she feels safe (a quick walk together helps her bond quickly!), she blossoms into a goofy, loving companion who wants to be wherever you are.Lola would do best as the only pet in the home—she’s not interested in sharing her people, thank you very much. But that just means more love, cuddles, and loyalty for you.If you’re looking for a one-on-one bond with a dog who will be your ride-or-die bestie, Lola’s your girl. 💛 Meet her and see what two years of waiting has built—pure, patient love just waiting to come home.Requirements: Martingale Collar; Children 10+; ShyAll of our dogs and cats are spayed/neutered, up to date with age appropriate vaccinations, heart worm or feleuk/FIV tested, fecal tested, rabies and tag, and microchipped before being placed in your home. Story
Hello there! My name is Gandolf, and while my face might be frosted like a wise old wizard, my heart is as youthful and vibrant as ever. I’m a charming 12-year-old pit mix with a magical ability to make you smile every single day. My journey hasn’t been easy—after being abandoned by my previous owner, I’ve spent the last two years and 10 months at the shelter. They’ve taken wonderful care of me, but what I truly long for is a forever home where I can live out my golden years with someone who understands and cherishes me. I’m a people-lover through and through. There’s nothing I enjoy more than cuddling up close to my favorite humans, basking in the warmth of their love. I’m an excellent companion for car rides (I ride like a pro!) and a devoted fan of Nylabones—those are my absolute favorite chew toys. And did I mention I know how to shake paws? Yep, I’ll charm you with my wizardly tricks.Even though I’m a bit older, I still have moments of youthful energy—get ready for some joyful zoomies when I’m feeling playful! Of course, I also know how to relax and will happily spend quiet moments by your side.I do come with some quirks (don’t we all?). I have anxiety, so I can get nervous when left alone. I also need time and patience in new situations—I’m not a fan of being rushed or pushed into things I’m unsure about. But don’t worry—with a little understanding and a slow approach, I’ll warm up and show you just how deeply I can love.Because of my history, I’ve been labeled a bit of a “misfit,” and I need to be the only pet in the home. No other dogs or cats, please—but trust me, I have more than enough love to give. One thing you should know is that I’m on thyroid medication for life. The good news? It’s affordable, my levels are perfectly managed, and I feel great! If you’re not ready to adopt, I’m also available for foster—I just don’t want to spend the rest of my life in a shelter. I have so much love to give, and I’m ready to share it with someone special. If you’re looking for a loyal, loving companion with a quirky, wise soul, I’m your guy. Let’s make the rest of my life a magical adventure—together.Love, Gandolf Requirements: Martingale Collar; Separation Anxiety; Thyroid Meds; MisfitAll of our dogs and cats are spayed/neutered, up to date with age appropriate vaccinations, heart worm or feleuk/FIV tested, fecal tested, rabies and tag, and microchipped before being placed in your home.
