Story
If German Shepherds had yearbooks, Samson would probably win "Most Likely to Bring You His Ball Every Five Minutes."This handsome 6-year-old long-haired Shepherd is looking for a new home through no fault of his own. After being lovingly passed from one family member to another to keep him out of a shelter, Samson's owner was seriously injured in a car accident and is facing a lengthy recovery after upcoming surgery, making it impossible to give Samson the care and exercise he deserves.Samson is everything people love about German Shepherds: intelligent, loyal, affectionate, and full of personality. He knows sit, stay, lay down, shake, and catch, and one of his favorite activities is playing ball. When he's not showing off his skills, he's happy to relax with his favorite blanket and pillow while soaking up attention from his people.According to his previous owner, Samson is housetrained, gets along with both dogs and cats, and settles down quickly when left alone. He may protest your departure for a few minutes, but he's not destructive and doesn't have accidents in the house. His biggest weakness? Squirrels. If wildlife appears, Samson would very much like to investigate. While at the shelter, Samson has shown some protectiveness around his food, so we feel a home with children 8 years and older would be the best fit. Otherwise, he's been a wonderful dog—even earning gold stars during his veterinary exam for being cooperative and easy to handle. If you're looking for a smart, loving companion who will happily play fetch, keep an eye on the neighborhood vacuum cleaner, and be your loyal best friend, Samson is ready to meet you.Requirements: Martingale Collar; Children 8yrs+All of our dogs and cats are spayed/neutered, up to date with age appropriate vaccinations, heart worm or feleuk/FIV tested, fecal tested, rabies and tag, and microchipped before being placed in your home. Our adoption fee helps cover this cost.

Story
Meet Jack: professional couch potato, part-time neighborhood watchman, and full-time lover of snacks and people.Jack recently found himself back at H.A.L.O. after his family faced financial hardship and an upcoming move. While he's sad to be starting over, his former owner had nothing but wonderful things to say about him. Affectionate, friendly, relaxed, and well-mannered, Jack is the kind of dog who believes everyone he meets is a potential new best friend—whether they walk on two legs or four. His favorite hobbies include lounging, accepting treats, lounging some more, and occasionally sounding the alarm when something suspicious happens outside. To be fair, his "guard dog" act is mostly for show, as he'd much rather greet strangers than scare them away. He does occasionally take an interest in chasing squirrels, but only when they have the audacity to run through his yard.Jack is housetrained and ready for indoor living, though he previously spent many nights relaxing on a covered porch. One thing to know about Jack is that he enjoys a good adventure. He was once found wandering by a H.A.L.O. employee before being reunited with his owner, so while he isn't a master escape artist, he should always have secure fencing and supervision when outdoors.Since arriving at the shelter, Jack has had several lumps and bumps removed, all of which thankfully tested benign. He also has a history of ear infections that will need occasional monitoring, and he recently received a dental, leaving him with a fresh smile and a clean bill of health. If your dream dog is equal parts couch companion, snack enthusiast, and lovable goofball, Jack is ready to clock in for duty.Requirements: Martingale Collar; Medical Needs (History of Ear Infections)All of our dogs and cats are spayed/neutered, up to date with age appropriate vaccinations, heart worm or feleuk/FIV tested, fecal tested, rabies and tag, and microchipped before being placed in your home. Our adoption fee helps cover this cost.

Story
At just 11 pounds, Missy is proof that big personalities come in very small packages. This 11½-year-old Chihuahua first came to H.A.L.O. in 2022 after being transferred from an out-of-county animal control facility. She was adopted and enjoyed several years in a home of her own before recently returning when her owner could no longer care for her.Missy has spent much of her life enjoying a familiar routine, so shelter life has been a big adjustment. She can be a little "spicy" at times while she's settling in, but we suspect much of that comes from stress and uncertainty. According to her previous owner, she got along well with everyone she met and is very loving once she forms a bond with her people. She is housetrained, crate trained, and would much rather be by your side than left home alone. Because she prefers a calmer lifestyle, we think she'd be happiest in a mature home with children 12 years and older.Like many seniors, Missy has a few age-related quirks that are easy to manage. She is blind in her left eye, has had all of her teeth removed, and either has some hearing loss or simply chooses when she'd like to listen. She also has a heart murmur that should be monitored by a veterinarian and some arthritis-related knee issues that can be managed with routine veterinary care.Missy may be in her golden years, but she's still hoping for one more chapter filled with love, comfort, and a person to call her own.Requirements: Martingale Collar; Medical Needs (Luxating Patellas; Heart Murmur); Children 12yrs+All of our dogs and cats are spayed/neutered, up to date with age appropriate vaccinations, heart worm or feleuk/FIV tested, fecal tested, rabies and tag, and microchipped before being placed in your home. Our adoption fee helps cover this cost.
