Story
My husband and adopted Growlie from a shelter. He had been found by animal control, and was unclaimed, so no history on him, only burn scars-patches where hair doesn't grow. He is leash reactive- barks when he is being walked-at other dogs, trucks, bikes, people, ect. He would do best living somewhere with a fenced in back yard. He's a one person dog. He's bonded to me and becomes angry when he is near me or I am holding him and someone approaches us. He has tried to attack my husband and son multiple times for approaching us. He has also become aggressive with my sister for trying to pet him when he was near me. My husband doesn't feel safe/ comfortable in our home and has been asking me for two years to rehome him. Its tough because I am attached to him. He is so sweet, loving and cuddly, loves car rides and playing with his toys. He's my little best friend and my protector. He would be an amazing dog for a women living alone who wants a dog who adores and protects her.

Story
Meet Bella – the Golden Girl of Cozy Living! ☁️💛After spending her entire life with one loving family, sweet Bella found herself at the shelter through no fault of her own when financial hardship made it impossible for her family to keep her. While that kind of change would be difficult for anyone, Bella has remained exactly what she's always been: a gentle, fluffy ray of sunshine. At 9 years old, Bella has perfected the art of relaxation. Long walks? Optional. Chasing squirrels? Sounds exhausting. A soft couch, a comfy dog bed, and a family to love? Now we're talking. This docile golden retriever mix is happiest enjoying the simple pleasures in life and being near her people.Bella has lived with other dogs, gets along well with cats, loves children, and greets everyone she meets with her sweet, easygoing personality. The only thing she isn't a fan of is thunderstorms.Bella does have some medical needs. She has a condition called perianal fistula, an inflammatory disease that causes painful wounds around the rectal area. She's currently doing well, but will need lifelong medication, monitoring, and a prescription hydrolyzed protein diet to help keep flare-ups under control. She also takes daily thyroid medication. Her future family should be prepared for the ongoing cost and commitment of managing these conditions. The good news? Bella recently had a dental cleaning, so her pearly whites are sparkling and ready for plenty of treats and smiles. If you're looking for a calm, loving companion whose biggest goal in life is to be a fluffy little cloud beside you on the couch, Bella may be exactly who you've been waiting for.Requirements: Martingale Collar; Thyroid Medication; Special Diet; Meds/Care for Perianal FistulasAll of our dogs and cats are spayed/neutered, up to date with age appropriate vaccinations, heart worm or feleuk/FIV tested, fecal tested, rabies and tag, and microchipped before being placed in your home. Our adoption fee helps cover this cost.

Story
If you've ever wanted a Husky with plenty of personality, Winter is ready to apply for the position. This beautiful 5-year-old came to H.A.L.O. when her owner was facing a move and spending too much time away at work. Winter has lived with teenagers, another dog, and even a cat, and she generally loves everyone she meets. She gets especially excited around people and other animals, which can sometimes lead to a little pulling on leash as she rushes over to make new friends.Winter is mostly housebroken and will usually ask to go outside, though if she's ignored or left alone for too long, she may leave a reminder by the door. Like many Huskies, she's also incredibly smart—and not always in ways that benefit her humans. Unlocked doors are merely suggestions, standard crates are no match for her escape skills, and if she gains access to the house while unsupervised, any reachable trash can may become a snack bar. When she's not plotting her next adventure, Winter enjoys car rides, cuddling with her people, carrying around her beloved giant teddy bear, and snuggling with her blanket. She knows sit, down, and shake, although whether she chooses to show off those skills depends entirely on her mood. And squirrels? Let's just say she considers them her sworn enemies.Winter is looking for a family that appreciates the intelligence, independence, and occasional mischief that Huskies are famous for. In return, she'll provide endless entertainment, plenty of affection, and enough personality to fill an entire house.Requirements: Martingale Collar; Escape ArtistAll of our dogs and cats are spayed/neutered, up to date with age appropriate vaccinations, heart worm or feleuk/FIV tested, fecal tested, rabies and tag, and microchipped before being placed in your home. Our adoption fee helps cover this cost.

Story
Meet Penny — a beautiful reddish-gold pit/hound mix with soulful eyes, adorable little neck tufts that seem to have come from who-knows-where, and a personality that keeps people smiling. One of the first things you’ll notice about Penny is her uniquely expressive eyes — a little buggy-looking in the absolute cutest way possible — giving her a constant look of curiosity and charm. Penny originally came to us from a local vet office, though we unfortunately do not know the circumstances surrounding why she was surrendered there. Upon arriving with us, Penny underwent heartworm treatment and has completed it successfully, so she’s now feeling great and ready to find a home of her own. She’s an energetic girl who enjoys exploring the world around her — especially if snacks are involved. Penny is very food motivated, making her a great candidate for continued training and bonding with her future family. While she can be a little aloof at times and marches to the beat of her own drum, she has a fun, lovable personality that grows on you quickly. She also feels very strongly that bath time is unnecessary. Penny has done well meeting other dogs here at the shelter and also scored well when introduced to a cat. Based on her easygoing nature, we think she would likely do just fine in a home with kids as well. Another bonus? Penny keeps her kennel impressively clean, so we believe she is likely housebroken too.Penny is currently listed as a foster-to-adopt placement, meaning H.A.L.O. will continue covering her monthly heartworm prevention and her required 6-month post-treatment retest, which will confirm that she is officially heartworm negative. If you’re looking for a unique, goofy, beautiful girl with plenty of personality, expressive eyes, and a love language centered around treats, Penny may just be your perfect match.Requirements: Martingale Collar; Foster To Adopt (Heartworm Retest)All of our dogs and cats are spayed/neutered, up to date with age appropriate vaccinations, heart worm or feleuk/FIV tested, fecal tested, rabies and tag, and microchipped before being placed in your home. Our adoption fee helps cover this cost.
