Story
Hi there, I’m Gatsby! Some dogs just have that special spark—and I’ve been told I’ve got it. I’m three years old, weigh about 40 pounds, and am the perfect size for cuddles on the couch or adventures outside. I’m the kind of pup who happily makes friends with other dogs, leans in for snuggles, and wins people over with my gentle heart and soulful eyes.I do have something unique about me: I have a condition called megaesophagus. That might sound big and scary, but really it just means I eat sitting upright in my special Bailey Chair so gravity can do the work for me. After a few minutes of relaxing in my chair post-meal, I’m ready to get back to being the playful, affectionate guy I am.I don’t think of it as a limitation—it’s just part of my routine. And honestly, it’s a small trade for all the love, loyalty, and joy I’ll bring into your life.Right now, I’m living in a foster home where I’m loved and cared for while I wait for my forever family. If you think that could be you, please fill out an adoption application on our website and call the Front Office to learn more about how to make me a permanent part of your life.I promise, once you meet me, you’ll see what makes me so special. I’m ready when you are.Requirements: Martingale Collar; Megaesophagus (Eats in a special upright chair)All of our dogs and cats are spayed/neutered, up to date with age appropriate vaccinations, heart worm or feleuk/FIV tested, fecal tested, rabies and tag, and microchipped before being placed in your home. Our adoption fee helps cover this cost.

Story
Meet Penny — a beautiful reddish-gold pit/hound mix with soulful eyes, adorable little neck tufts that seem to have come from who-knows-where, and a personality that keeps people smiling. One of the first things you’ll notice about Penny is her uniquely expressive eyes — a little buggy-looking in the absolute cutest way possible — giving her a constant look of curiosity and charm. Penny originally came to us from a local vet office, though we unfortunately do not know the circumstances surrounding why she was surrendered there. Upon arriving with us, Penny underwent heartworm treatment and has completed it successfully, so she’s now feeling great and ready to find a home of her own. She’s an energetic girl who enjoys exploring the world around her — especially if snacks are involved. Penny is very food motivated, making her a great candidate for continued training and bonding with her future family. While she can be a little aloof at times and marches to the beat of her own drum, she has a fun, lovable personality that grows on you quickly. She also feels very strongly that bath time is unnecessary. Penny has done well meeting other dogs here at the shelter and also scored well when introduced to a cat. Based on her easygoing nature, we think she would likely do just fine in a home with kids as well. Another bonus? Penny keeps her kennel impressively clean, so we believe she is likely housebroken too.Penny is currently listed as a foster-to-adopt placement, meaning H.A.L.O. will continue covering her monthly heartworm prevention and her required 6-month post-treatment retest, which will confirm that she is officially heartworm negative. If you’re looking for a unique, goofy, beautiful girl with plenty of personality, expressive eyes, and a love language centered around treats, Penny may just be your perfect match.Requirements: Martingale Collar; Foster To Adopt (Heartworm Retest)All of our dogs and cats are spayed/neutered, up to date with age appropriate vaccinations, heart worm or feleuk/FIV tested, fecal tested, rabies and tag, and microchipped before being placed in your home. Our adoption fee helps cover this cost.

🧦 Meet Dobby: The House Elf Who's Ready to Be Free... Into Your Home Forever 🧦Unlike the famous house elf, this Dobby isn't looking for a sock—he's looking for a family.Dobby first came into rescue as a stray when he was much younger, and after spending years as a beloved family pet, he finds himself searching for a new home through no fault of his own. His family has faced significant changes in their housing and financial situation, making the heartbreaking decision to rehome him.If you're looking for a dog who loves people, toys, treats, adventures, and basically life in general, Dobby may be your guy. This sweet boy gets along wonderfully with other dogs and absolutely loves having canine friends to play with. While he's never officially lived with cats, he recently met one here and seemed more interested in making friends than causing trouble. He also does great with kids, though we think children 8+ may be the best fit simply because Dobby occasionally forgets he's not a lapdog and can get a little bouncy when he's excited.Dobby enjoys long walks, outdoor adventures, and collecting squeaky toys like they're priceless treasures. He knows several commands—including sit, down, stay, and up/down—and is highly motivated by treats, snacks, food, more snacks, and did we mention treats?Like many dogs, Dobby can be a little nervous when faced with something new. But once he realizes he's safe, his true personality shines: affectionate, goofy, loyal, and ready to be everyone's best friend. When left home alone, he's not the type to redecorate your living room—he's usually content to curl up and snooze until you return. His only real vice? Sometimes he pulls on leash when he's excited. But can you blame him? The world is full of squirrels, smells, and possibilities.Dobby has already had to start over once. We're hoping his next chapter is the one that lasts forever. If you're looking for a dog with a big heart, a playful spirit, and enough love to fill an entire house, Dobby is ready to work his house-elf magic on you.Requirements: Martingale Collar; Children 8yrs+All of our dogs and cats are spayed/neutered, up to date with age appropriate vaccinations, heart worm or feleuk/FIV tested, fecal tested, rabies and tag, and microchipped before being placed in your home. Story
Meet Bella – the Golden Girl of Cozy Living! ☁️💛After spending her entire life with one loving family, sweet Bella found herself at the shelter through no fault of her own when financial hardship made it impossible for her family to keep her. While that kind of change would be difficult for anyone, Bella has remained exactly what she's always been: a gentle, fluffy ray of sunshine. At 9 years old, Bella has perfected the art of relaxation. Long walks? Optional. Chasing squirrels? Sounds exhausting. A soft couch, a comfy dog bed, and a family to love? Now we're talking. This docile golden retriever mix is happiest enjoying the simple pleasures in life and being near her people.Bella has lived with other dogs, gets along well with cats, loves children, and greets everyone she meets with her sweet, easygoing personality. The only thing she isn't a fan of is thunderstorms.Bella does have some medical needs. She has a condition called perianal fistula, an inflammatory disease that causes painful wounds around the rectal area. She's currently doing well, but will need lifelong medication, monitoring, and a prescription hydrolyzed protein diet to help keep flare-ups under control. She also takes daily thyroid medication. Her future family should be prepared for the ongoing cost and commitment of managing these conditions. The good news? Bella recently had a dental cleaning, so her pearly whites are sparkling and ready for plenty of treats and smiles. If you're looking for a calm, loving companion whose biggest goal in life is to be a fluffy little cloud beside you on the couch, Bella may be exactly who you've been waiting for.Requirements: Martingale Collar; Thyroid Medication; Special Diet; Meds/Care for Perianal FistulasAll of our dogs and cats are spayed/neutered, up to date with age appropriate vaccinations, heart worm or feleuk/FIV tested, fecal tested, rabies and tag, and microchipped before being placed in your home. Story
Trooper is a sweet, easygoing French Bulldog with a big heart and an even bigger love for the simple things in life. His favorite activities include going for walks, playing in short bursts of excitement, taking long cozy naps, and soaking up all the belly rubs and affection he can get. If there’s a soft spot on the couch or a sunny patch on the floor, Trooper will find it and promptly roll over to kick his feet up in pure bliss. He’s a quiet companion who rarely barks and prefers a calm, relaxed environment. Trooper can be a little cautious around new people, especially strangers and loud, energetic children, but he is never aggressive—he simply keeps his distance until he feels comfortable. The good news is that “getting comfortable” doesn’t take long for him, especially when patience and kindness are involved.Trooper’s biggest special need is that he was born incontinent, so he requires a caregiver who is understanding and attentive to his bathroom needs. Because of this, he will do best with someone who is home more often or willing to accommodate a bit of extra care throughout the day.He has been through several homes where he was deeply loved, but ultimately found his needs to be more than expected. What Trooper truly needs now is a stable, patient home that sees him for who he is—a gentle, affectionate little dog who wants nothing more than comfort, routine, and companionship. In the right home, Trooper is going to be someone’s loyal shadow, nap buddy, and quiet best friend.Requirements: Martingale Collar; Maintenance Regarding IncontinenceAll of our dogs and cats are spayed/neutered, up to date with age appropriate vaccinations, heart worm or feleuk/FIV tested, fecal tested, rabies and tag, and microchipped before being placed in your home. Story
If German Shepherds had yearbooks, Samson would probably win "Most Likely to Bring You His Ball Every Five Minutes."This handsome 6-year-old long-haired Shepherd is looking for a new home through no fault of his own. After being lovingly passed from one family member to another to keep him out of a shelter, Samson's owner was seriously injured in a car accident and is facing a lengthy recovery after upcoming surgery, making it impossible to give Samson the care and exercise he deserves.Samson is everything people love about German Shepherds: intelligent, loyal, affectionate, and full of personality. He knows sit, stay, lay down, shake, and catch, and one of his favorite activities is playing ball. When he's not showing off his skills, he's happy to relax with his favorite blanket and pillow while soaking up attention from his people.According to his previous owner, Samson is housetrained, gets along with both dogs and cats, and settles down quickly when left alone. He may protest your departure for a few minutes, but he's not destructive and doesn't have accidents in the house. His biggest weakness? Squirrels. If wildlife appears, Samson would very much like to investigate. While at the shelter, Samson has shown some protectiveness around his food, so we feel a home with children 8 years and older would be the best fit. Otherwise, he's been a wonderful dog—even earning gold stars during his veterinary exam for being cooperative and easy to handle. If you're looking for a smart, loving companion who will happily play fetch, keep an eye on the neighborhood vacuum cleaner, and be your loyal best friend, Samson is ready to meet you.Requirements: Martingale Collar; Children 8yrs+All of our dogs and cats are spayed/neutered, up to date with age appropriate vaccinations, heart worm or feleuk/FIV tested, fecal tested, rabies and tag, and microchipped before being placed in your home.
