It has been a long hard road for Xena warrior princess , but she is ready for the next chapter. Xena is now available for adoption. Please read her bio in full as Xena has a life long medical condition and is not a hospice dog, she is only 2 years old, so please keep in mind you will be responsible for long term medical care and daily medication for hopefully a decade or more 💜 this is a BIG commitment and we will treat her applications as such. Xena is 2 -2.5 years young and weighs just under 7 pounds. Her weight fluctuates between 6 and 7 . Xena has Lupus with outbreaks of pemphigus when she flares up. This is a rare diagnosis and took us and her amazing vet staff a while to figure out. She had to have quite a bit of testing and biopsies. Currently she is on prednisone 2.5 mg daily and is doing really well. She has had no flare ups and is thriving. She has to stay on this daily forever, as soon as you try and go under this dosage she will flare again. Her pemphigus causes sores and pain, discomfort and because they tens to be in and around her mouth and throat, she ends up with a secondary infection then also needing antibiotics. Luckily the prednisone is inexpensive. It is a very tiny pill and she takes it very well in a little treat. Xena loves food as long as she is feeling well. Once her lupus was under control, she has had zero problems and has been doing amazingly well. This does not mean she is always going to do amazingly well or that she will never have another flareup although we truly hope that is the case we cannot guarantee anything of her long-term health or long-term outcomes . Although the prednisone is very inexpensive, her care if she has a flareup is not . So she does need to go to an adopter who is financially capable of taking care of her long-term. Now onto the fun stuff about Xena . For one, she is a beautiful dog. She is very quirky and weird. You can tell she was extremely mistreated in the past or lived mostly outdoors in the past as she came to us acting like a feral little creature and not a dog. I believe now we are about 75% dog and 25% little creature. Her foster calls her the house elf. Xena bonds quickly to her person but is very shy and timid of newcomers. She loves hard. She has mild separation anxiety from her human. This is worse the first day or two in a new environment but she quickly calms down and acclimates to a new place and routine. She is pretty good at going on the per pads. She will go outdoors potty as well but I would not call her “house trained” if there is not a pee pad down she will pee on the floor. She has a funny walk, her spine has a mild curve to it and her front legs hyper extend . She is not in pain, just a genetic mess. She is mostly calm and quiet after the initial decompression time. She LOVES food which is good because sometimes it is hard to keep weight on her when she is not feeling well but the last couple months for her has been great. No issues. She is good with other dogs her speed. Xena has an old soul. She can be a cranky at times with hyper big dogs or hyper puppies , then the little chihuahua comes out. But she likes other dogs, especially older dogs and sweet dogs that lay with her and just kind of enjoy one another’s company without being intrusive. She is sweet with old chihuahuas and her foster has big dogs, and she is bossy with them haha. Once she bonds with you she is a cuddle bug . Adores being geld and kissed and sitting in your lap and wants to be your velcro dog, but this will take a day or two in some cases. She is funny , brings a lot of joy, love and admiration into your life. She is also a bit of a miracle because how she survived is beyond me. She was probably a day or two away from passing when we rescued her. She is a fighter for sure. We are happy to talk to all potential adopters more about her journey and medical care and silly disposition. Apply www.texaschihuahua.org

This honorary chihuahua is a special needs shepherd mix. He does not know he is special needs 🙂 Stabler (on his paperwork) but we call him Stewie . Is apx 15 pounds and will be apx 55-65 pounds fully grown. A big boy. He is great with small dogs though, he is great with all dogs and people. he was a little overwhelmed when he first got here and it took him a couple days to acclimate, but he is doing great. He is a dog that really loves his routine. He is very very much a German Shepherd. He is super sweet but does not really enjoy being held, but he likes to know where you are at all times. He was always watching you and following you around like a shadow. He loves to sleep in bed with you and loves being part of a pack. He is definitely not a loner and would not do well as an only dog or in a home where somebody works extremely long hours he is not a fan of being created too much. Stewie is VERY smart. He uses the doggie door, knows to sit and wait for his food. Walks on a leash. I have also walked him off leash on our 5 acre fenced in property and he follows you right at your heel. He is a very good dog for someone familiar with the breed. He is both stoic and a whiny baby all at the same time hahaha. Stewie was born with a cleft palette and the wonderful ladies at the cleft pallet Rescue tube fed him as a new born and once he was ready to eat on his own and join our clan, we took him into our rescue. She eats great and will eat large chunks of meat like chicken, beef, pork, he also loves freeze dried food and can eat kibble just fine cleft palate dogs cannot have anything mushy like canned dog food or peanut butter or cheese whiz etc. he mostly drinks out of a big bar water bowl now but still sometimes uses his special water bottle for cleft pallets and we are happy to send that along with Witham. I myself have two cleft pallet dogs and would be happy to speak to anyone about any special needs and care he requires, but I promise you that is very limited. My dogs are two and three and are healthy as can be and doing great. Stewie has no clue he is special needs , he is just a regular pup looking for an awesome home. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Primrose, Princeton and Percival's mom was abandoned at a home when her previous owners moved out. She was left out on a chain to fend for herself. Luckily the neighbors realized she had been left behind and took her in. She was in horrible physical condition and pregnant by to neighborhood stay (a blk lab) that would jump the fence when she was in heat. It was reported by the neighbors that these 2 had had multiple litters together but none of the puppies ever survived. The neighbors children feel in love with mom and they are keeping her but needed help rehoming her very last litter (we assisted in getting her spayed). These pups are the most laid back and chill group I have ever seen. Prim and Percy were born with docked tails.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.Online Adoption Application July 16, 2026, 11:18 am

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Piper Jo is a sweetheart that just wants a home of her own.  She is great with children and is a happy dog.  Piper would love a backyard to run freely in, time to sit on a porch with her people and watch the sunset along with a kid to sleep with! She is good with dogs and would do very well with one who is more dominate. She is NOT cat friendly. She is crate trained, loves car rides and loves to swim. Her favorite thing to do, is to run and play with others, and then, nap time! She is an easy going gal with the best snuggles and kisses to give. Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.Online Adoption Application March 10, 2026, 1:23 pm

Tangerine is a little male Chihuahua mix tall and slender. Approximately four months and 4 pounds. He is a bit of a diva. He does have an old eye injury that has since been treated so you will see a tiny cloudy spot on his eye from him and his siblings playing , one of them scratched him. He is all healed and doing well. Tangerine will need to meet new dogs slowly as if a dog comes running up to him he screams and runs away. He also screams at the vet. I miss is not a bark or a wine. It is a literal scream like a child 😂 he is very comical, and once his emo side has settled down and everyone in the house is wrapped around his finger because he is just a wittle scared baby with so many feelings, then he gets bossy. So if you are up for some laughs and have a good sense of humor, Tangerine may be your best little dude. Located in Pleasanton Texas
