Story
I am searching for a new home for Precious, our five and half year old, mixed-breed cat. She is very timid; however, once she warms up to you, she loves sleeping under the covers right next to you or on top of the covers between your legs. She also loves to be brushed with a brush and can be talkative. She is neutered and up to date on all her shots. She can and does use the litterbox; yet she is completely stressed in our house, so she sprays in different spots. That stress is from our 14-year-old dominant cat and our 2 1/2-year old GS. She used to have her own room; however, no longer does due to renovations. I've tried everything and really want her to have the quality of life she deserves. Now she spends most of her time under the bed.

Story
Jackson Jr. is a very handsome medium hair gray tabby with white on his lower face, neck, belly and feet. He looks like he is wearing white boots and white gloves. His owner had to surrender him after having him for 3 years, so he is a little shy at first. You can pick him up and pet him but not for very long. Once he is in a home again, he will probably turn into a loving lap pet. He would be best as the only cat in a home with no children or dogs so he can get his owner's undivided love and attention. He has been neutered & is up to date on his vaccinations. All of our cats are fostered in Tennessee, but we transport to most states. This animal is being fostered in the South but transport to a location near you is included in your adoption fee. We use Rescue Riders Pet Transport, (www.rescueridersllc.net), the most animal-friendly transport on the road.

Story
Do you have a business or property where a cat can live an outdoor lifestyle with a safe place to eat, sleep, and settle in? Meet Grumpy, one of our working cats. He`s part of our Working Cat program because he’s best suited for a more independent setup than a typical indoor pet home. Working cats fall all over the spectrum—some are fairly social, some prefer to keep their distance; some are very “on the job,” serving as a natural deterrent for the small critters that sometimes find their way into barns, shops, outbuildings, or other outdoor spaces. What all working cats share is that they’re looking for a home that respects their pace and doesn’t expect them to be cuddly or constantly engaged. Here at the shelter, Grumpy is definitely living up to his name. The shelter environment is stressful for this poor fella, and he’s clearly unhappy being confined. In a working cat home, he’ll have the space and routine to decompress, settle in, and decide how much interaction he wants—on his timeline. If you’re new to working cats, we’ll help set you up for success with information on how to get him established safely, what supplies you’ll need, and how to support a smooth transition.Grumpy is located at our Michael R. Frey – West Ox Campus, 4500 West Ox Road, Fairfax, VA. We are open Tuesdays and Wednesdays 12–5 p.m., Thursdays and Fridays 12–7 p.m., and Saturdays and Sundays 11 a.m.–5 p.m. For more information on our adoption process, including requirements and fees, visit:www.fairfaxcounty.gov/animalshelter/adopt

Good with cats, Spayed or Neutered,
Story
This brown floof purrs constantly! Sometimes it’s happiness, sometimes it’s nervousness. He is easily startled by noises and sudden movements, so he would prefer to have a calm, quiet, predictable home with no small children (teenage and up, please). He is good buddies with his roommate, Basil, and he is interested in meeting other cats. It is unknown how he would be around dogs. Aidan enjoys pets down his back and around his chin, but if he gets over-stimulated he can give little love bites. His fluffy belly is a tease and if you don’t resist the urge to touch it, you may be met with teeth and claws. While Aidan likes to be pet, he does not like to be picked up. He can be held for a few minutes with a little struggle though… long enough to get into a carrier when necessary. Aidan requires patient, cat-savvy humans who will let him warm up and settle in at his own pace. Aidan is neutered, microchipped, and tested negative for FeLv and FIV. His estimated birthdate is May 2025.

Not good with dogs, Spayed or Neutered,
Story
Simone Roanoke, a female born in November 2014, was returned to 4Paws with her 10 1/2 year old daughter, Serena Roanoke.. Their adopters had a baby and don't have enough time to give these kitties the attention and love they deserve. Simone and Serena are not bonded and we expect they would adjust well to being adopted separately. However, given their age, it would be preferable for them to be adopted together. Both Serena and Simone enjoy being picked up; Serena would sometimes curl up on the couch next to her humans for some pets, but not before she spent some time kneading a blanket to ensure the spot was just right. Simone likes her solitude, snoozing in cozy places, but she also enjoys long stretches of attention/pets. She was curious about the children in her former home and was very patient despite the toddler squeezing her tail sometimes. Serena was also curious about the kids, but was a little wary of the toddler. Despite their age, they both still love to play! Serena is the more energetic of the two and sometimes gets the zoomies. Both Simone and Serena enjoy attacking ribbon and other similar toys. They both approach their humans for affection, including requests for pets! They were not allowed to sleep with their prior owners because they're light sleepers, but it seems clear that Serena would like to as she would meow for a few minutes after her parents would say goodnight....perhaps in hopes that they'd let her sleep with them. Simone never made any similar requests. They've been exposed to a small dog and they were not fans. Given their age, we think it's best that their adoptive home(s) be one(s) that do not have any dogs. We expect that they would do well with other medium to older aged, mellow cats. Simone has been spayed, is current on vaccines, has tested negative for FeLV and FIV, and has been microchipped.
