Story
Meet Citrine! Hobbies include: staring at the ground waiting for little critters, hiking, curling up in a good spot, eating (kindred spirit here), and being loved on. At 55 lbs, she is the "Goldilocks" size—sturdy enough for a hike, but perfectly shaped for a snuggle. House Training Pro: She is 100% house-trained and takes great pride in her good manners. The Neighborhood Explorer: She absolutely loves her daily walks. She enjoys taking in all the sniffs the neighborhood has to offer.  She needs a yard and likes to explore. Crate Optional: She is crate trained and uses it like a pro, but honestly? She’s so trustworthy she doesn’t even need it. Professional Lounger: Whether it’s the sofa, a plush dog bed, or just a sunny spot on the rug, She is a world-class napper. She’s just happy to be where you are. The Ideal Home: Citrine is looking for a friend, a person, or a family to spend her life with. Inside the house, she has a gentle, low-key energy with a silly side that makes her a great companion for just about anyone (sorry, she's just not into fetch. You can't expect her to be perfect, can you?) She loves the companionship of other dogs but is happy solo as well. She has done excellent with a prior foster's 2 rambunctious children and is not phased at all by their energy! She has shown no signs of resource guarding or aggression. Whether it's a quiet house or a chaotic one, Citrine is a gem! Preferably, her adopter will be familiar with foxhound traits. In particular, hunting instincts and bawling. Patience for continued leash training is recommended. Must be leashed when outside. Don't sleep on her, sign up to meet her and see for yourself! Adoption Day: July 11th at PetSmart Tysons Corner from 10:00–11:00 AM, an approved adopter must be present to adopt. Some pups may stick around until 11:00 AM for the public event—check our Facebook page closer to the date to see if this pup will be attending the extra fun! ##2662539##

Story
Come meet me SATURDAY, JUNE 27, 2026 at NEW HOMEWARD TRAILS ADOPTION CENTER, 4000 Burke Station Rd, Fairfax, VA from 10AM-4PM during our adoption event. Fall in love? Be ready to take me home! -ESTIMATE WEIGHT FULL GROWN: 50-60 lbs -ESTIMATED AGE: DOB: 2/6/26 -KNOWN WITH DOGS: Puppies love to play with other dogs -KNOWN WITH CATS: appropriately curious with the resident cat -KNOWN WITH KIDS: Phoenix would do best with kids 14+ -KNOWN CUES: none yet -KNOWN HOUSEBREAKING AND/OR CRATING: too young but have started working on it -KNOWN LIKES: cuddles and playing -KNOWN DISLIKES: ABOUT THIS ANIMAL: Phoenix is one of 8 puppies born in our care to a beautiful brindle coat mom in early February. Notes from the foster: Phoenix may be the smallest of her litter, but don’t let that fool you—this girl has presence. As the only female among her brothers, she’s grown up knowing exactly how to hold her own… and usually ends up getting her way. She’s affectionate and loving, but with a confident, spirited edge that makes her stand out. Freyja isn’t shy about claiming the coziest spot in the bed or making sure she’s included in whatever is going on. She has a natural “I belong here” energy that makes her both endearing and a little bit hilarious. And she’s smart. Really smart. Phoenix is the kind of pup who will let her brothers do all the exploring… then casually step in and take over once the hard work is done. Efficient, strategic, and adorable about it. She previously lived with other dogs (and has been exposed to cats) and is doing well, showing the typical adaptability you’d expect from a young puppy. She’s also her mama’s mini—both in her beautiful looks and her strong, confident personality. https://foha.org/pet/nolan/ Nobody knows love, nose rubs, affection and nonstop fun like Nolan. Never in your wildest dreams will you come across a never-ending bundle of happiness and kindness like Nolan. I am a dog of many nodes of joy. I prefer to be very active, as my energy knows no bounds. Long walks, big yards, non-stop tug of war are the things that I smile most for. Leash walking is no problem for me, but like my hound dog roots I prefer to set the pace and direction. Calm and quiet are my preferred settings so I would do best in a home nuzzled in a quiet neighborhood or on a serene block. A few Nolan "no-no's are other pets or children. I need to be in a house with an experienced owner who can give me their undivided attention. I do have a strong startle reflex so I should not be allowed on the furniture with you. I would like my own bed to the side where I am safe and sound. Take the time to get to know me, be patient with me as we warm up to each other, and I will show you a dog who will never leave your side and who will always be there for you. Nolan is sponsored by Carolyn Landry: Stacey Gimbert - Thank you for all you do for those who can't help themselves. You are blessing to them and to me. Story
Trueno (“Thunder” in Spanish) is a young dog who is struggling with the shelter environment, but continuing to show promising progress with patient, positive handling.Since intake, Trueno has shown fear and anxiety, particularly around leashing, sudden movement, and unfamiliar people. However, staff have consistently observed that he responds well to calm interactions, treats, gentle encouragement, and low-pressure handling. Over time, he has begun approaching handlers willingly, taking treats softly, engaging in training games, and allowing increased handling. Trueno has also shown the ability to recover, re-engage, and settle with experienced guidance and management.Trueno recently participated in a playgroup with other dogs and did well overall, displaying a gentle/dainty play style and social behavior. Staff noted that maintaining positive, structured interactions helped him succeed.Trueno is a year and 7 months young, neutered male listed as an American Foxhound. Tested negative for HW and is up to date on Rabies, DAPP, Bordetella vaccinations, and microchipped. Weight at time of neuter was 61.2 lbs.More photos of Trueno having fun in playgroup can be found here: https://photos.app.goo.gl/refDFhkvbhTGV7Ky7Underneath the fear is a sensitive, social young dog who is trying hard to trust. Story
Meet COWBOY 🤎 Cowboy is a young mixed breed boy estimated to be around 2 years old, and he’s as handsome as they come! This sweet, loving boy is friendly with both people and other dogs. He has a generally calm demeanor, but he’s always happy to see you — and that excitement sometimes comes out in enthusiastic jumps to say hello. Cowboy is curious, observant, and always taking in the world around him. As for his breed mix… your guess is as good as ours! We suspect he may have some hound in him, possibly a Treeing Walker Coonhound or English Foxhound mix, but what we know for sure is that he’s 100% good boy. • Male mixed breed • Approximately 2 years old • Dog friendly • People friendly • Calm overall with happy, excited greetings • Curious and observant • Possibly hound mix (Treeing Walker Coonhound / English Foxhound type) Cowboy is ready to find a forever home where his sweet nature and big heart can shine. 🐾 If interested in learning more about COWBOY, please complete our adoption application linked on this page or email us at unitingtosaveanimals@gmail.com
