ESTIMATE WEIGHT FULL GROWN: approx 60 pounds KNOWN WITH DOGS: very good! KNOWN WITH CATS: Not sure yet KNOWN WITH KIDS: good with kids ! KNOWN COMMANDS: sit and stay and shake KNOWN HOUSEBREAKING &/OR CRATING: Yes KNOWN LIKES: dogs, people, playing, walks KNOWN DISLIKES: None currently known. We estimate Cokie to be between 1 and 2 years old ABOUT THIS ANIMAL: Meet Cokie – Your New Adventure Buddy with a Foxhound Heart! Cokie is a stunning young American Foxhound with a sleek frame, long legs, and a curious nose always ready for the next great adventure. Weighing in at 46 pounds, he’s the perfect mid-size companion for someone who loves the outdoors as much as he does. Cokie’s Personality: This handsome hound is the best of both worlds—athletic and energetic outside, but calm and relaxed at home once his exercise needs are met. Cokie isn’t a velcro dog or a couch cuddler; instead, he prefers to unwind solo in his crate, enjoying his own quiet corner. But don’t let his independence fool you—he’s friendly, social, and always happy to meet new people and dogs. He just marches to the beat of his own hound-y drum. Smart, Trainable & Crate-Happy: Cokie is housebroken, crate trained, and highly food-motivated—he’s already mastered “sit,” “stay,” “lie down,” “shake,” and “go to your bed”! He’s currently polishing up his loose leash skills and, like a true Foxhound, sometimes pulls when his nose catches something intriguing. With continued guidance, he’ll be a leash-walking pro in no time. Social and Gentle: Cokie loves other dogs, is gentle with children, and is friendly with new people. While he hasn’t met any cats yet, his low prey drive suggests he may be able to coexist peacefully with them. Cokie's Quirks: As a typical Foxhound, Cokie can be a little stubborn and has that iconic baying voice—he’s not a silent roommate! He barks when he’s frustrated or under-exercised and may show some anxiety when you first leave the house. He also startles at loud noises (like vacuums and leaf blowers) but is making steady progress with desensitization. Cokie’s Ideal Home: He’ll thrive in a home with: · A large, fenced-in yard · Another friendly dog to pal around with · An active household that enjoys long walks, hikes, or time outdoors · Someone familiar with hound breeds, or willing to learn about their unique needs and quirks A Bit About His Past: Cokie came to Homeward Trails Animal Rescue from a rural shelter in South Carolina. He’s now looking for a forever family that will see him for who he is: a beautiful, intelligent, and good-natured pup with tons of potential. Why You’ll Love Him: Cokie may not be a couch snuggler, but he’ll be your happiest hiking partner, your most loyal walking buddy, and a steady, curious companion with a gentle heart and independent streak. He’s the kind of dog who may not ask for much—but gives you everything he’s got. Story
Inca is looking for their forever home! WHAT MY FOSTER SAYS ABOUT ME: There is nothing Inca loves more than humans and thrives on human connection - she will greet everyone with her wagging tail and endearing looks. A true social butterfly, Inca is a favorite during walks, where she gladly accepts all the pets and praises showered upon her. She loves to spend her days going on long walks in the park, playing tug-of-war, looking out the window, and snoozing at home. She is an independent girl and will do well alone - some quality time outdoors with her people is all she needs to keep her happy. While Inca is generally great on her walks, she is learning to 'look at me' to help with her fear of big trucks. She has fairly good recall (though sometimes she cannot resist reaching the nearest human for pets) and is starting to get comfortable with being off leash outside so she can do what she loves the most - run free and play tag with her human in the park. Inca has been known to do fairly well in a crate in the past, but she is the best-behaved girl when left on her own, and will easily relax in her favorite spots at home. Though she loves to say hello and play with most dogs she meets, she is still learning to share and can get easily overwhelmed, and may be best suited as the only dog at home. Inca has spent her time in different homes, but she is a resilient girl - she is looking for a patient, forever home with people who can understand her sensitivities and give her the comfort she is craving for. ATTRIBUTES: Inca should not be placed in a home with children, but does well with children outside of the home. -------------- Laila's Legacy Animal Rescue does not guarantee that any dog is housebroken nor crate trained.
