Story
Meet Citrine! Hobbies include: staring at the ground waiting for little critters, hiking, curling up in a good spot, eating (kindred spirit here), and being loved on. At 55 lbs, she is the "Goldilocks" size—sturdy enough for a hike, but perfectly shaped for a snuggle. House Training Pro: She is 100% house-trained and takes great pride in her good manners. The Neighborhood Explorer: She absolutely loves her daily walks. She enjoys taking in all the sniffs the neighborhood has to offer.  She needs a yard and likes to explore. Crate Optional: She is crate trained and uses it like a pro, but honestly? She’s so trustworthy she doesn’t even need it. Professional Lounger: Whether it’s the sofa, a plush dog bed, or just a sunny spot on the rug, She is a world-class napper. She’s just happy to be where you are. The Ideal Home: Citrine is looking for a friend, a person, or a family to spend her life with. Inside the house, she has a gentle, low-key energy with a silly side that makes her a great companion for just about anyone (sorry, she's just not into fetch. You can't expect her to be perfect, can you?) She loves the companionship of other dogs but is happy solo as well. She has done excellent with a prior foster's 2 rambunctious children and is not phased at all by their energy! She has shown no signs of resource guarding or aggression. Whether it's a quiet house or a chaotic one, Citrine is a gem! Preferably, her adopter will be familiar with foxhound traits. In particular, hunting instincts and bawling. Patience for continued leash training is recommended. Must be leashed when outside. Don't sleep on her, sign up to meet her and see for yourself! Adoption Day: May 16th at PetSmart Tysons Corner from 10:00–11:00 AM, an approved adopter must be present to adopt. Some pups may stick around until 11:00 AM for the public event—check our Facebook page closer to the date to see if this pup will be attending the extra fun! ##2662539##

Story
Trueno (“Thunder” in Spanish) is a young dog who is struggling with the shelter environment, but continuing to show promising progress with patient, positive handling.Since intake, Trueno has shown fear and anxiety, particularly around leashing, sudden movement, and unfamiliar people. However, staff have consistently observed that he responds well to calm interactions, treats, gentle encouragement, and low-pressure handling. Over time, he has begun approaching handlers willingly, taking treats softly, engaging in training games, and allowing increased handling. Trueno has also shown the ability to recover, re-engage, and settle with experienced guidance and management.Trueno recently participated in a playgroup with other dogs and did well overall, displaying a gentle/dainty play style and social behavior. Staff noted that maintaining positive, structured interactions helped him succeed.Trueno is a year and 7 months young, neutered male listed as an American Foxhound. Tested negative for HW and is up to date on Rabies, DAPP, Bordetella vaccinations, and microchipped. Weight at time of neuter was 61.2 lbs.More photos of Trueno having fun in playgroup can be found here: https://photos.app.goo.gl/refDFhkvbhTGV7Ky7Underneath the fear is a sensitive, social young dog who is trying hard to trust. Needs experienced adopter, House-trained, Spayed or Neutered, Shots are up-to-date,
Story
Granby is a handsome 8-year-old Foxhound/Beagle mix. He has had a lot of change in his life and is seeking new accommodations. First, his human died and then his best buddy who was a cat died. He finds himself a little out of sorts with folks who are keeping him safe but not dog people. He is house trained and walks well on leash. He is tentative about strangers coming to the house and needs to work on proper introductions or put in another room or crate if guests are over. Granby has 5 personal trainer sessions with a trainer who knows him that will transfer to his adopter (Falls Church, VA area, willing to travel in DMV area). His ideal home is a quiet one without children and lots of people coming and going. We are seeking an adopter who has Fox Hound or dog experience who knows how to show leadership to a pup. He weighs 70 pounds and is full grown. Adoption fee is waived, but approval process is not. Meet and greets are by appointment only with approved applicants. If you are interested in fostering to adopt, please fill out the online application: https://www.lastchanceanimalrescue.org/adoption-request-form/ If you have been approved within the past 6 months and are interested in Granby, please reply to your approval email. Please contact Paul Slebzak (pauls@luckydoganimalrescue.org) for more information about this pet.pretty hound ISO fresh start and love! LADY BIRD NEEDS A FOREVER HOME!!!! Name:  Lady Bird      Best Guess for Breed:  Treeing walker coonhound mix    Best Guess for Age:  6 years 9 months as of April 2026      SEX:   Female   Approximate Weight:   52 lbs   Gets Along With: Other dogs! We haven't seen her with cats or kids but we are happy to discuss integration techniques with any potential adopters!   Currently Living at:  DC area foster home Watch this video of Lady Bird playing with her foster sister, Babbette! She's great on leash!   Watch this video of Lady Bird showing off her silly side.   Watch this video as Lady Bird enjoys the luxury of a quiet nap on her foster family's comfy couch with a cozy blanket.     Lady Bird is Looking For:  Her forever home! Lady Bird landed in the shelter through no fault of her own and she's eager to once again have her own humans. For sniffy walks (that hound nose - IYKYK!) and world exploration and quality kibble and a cushy dog bed, yes. But as an experienced dog, she knows what's most important in life: Knowing where she belongs, being safe and loved. What do you say? Are you her fresh start? Is she the one you see by your side?   What My Foster Says About Me:     I’ve had the pleasure of fostering Lady Bird for just a few days, and even in this short time, she has quietly started to show who she really is, and it is very special. When she first arrived, Lady Bird kept to herself, finding comfort in her crate and watching the world from a safe distance. Everything was new and a bit overwhelming, but even then, you could see her gentle, sweet nature just beneath the surface. She is still decompressing and building confidence, but each day she’s taking small, meaningful steps forward.   Lady Bird is very much a hound at heart. She loves to take her time outside, following her nose and exploring the world at her own pace. She has a particular interest in sniffing cars (minivans especially) and while she’s still building confidence in new environments, she becomes more curious and engaged once she’s outside. Inside the home, Lady Bird currently prefers her crate as her safe space and does best when it is partially covered, which helps her feel secure. She is also a big napper (and snorer) and spends a lot of her day resting and recharging, which seems to help her process everything around her. That said, she is beginning to branch out!   Today she went up and down the stairs on her own and, for the first time, chose to settle on the couch after I showed her that she was allowed. After a while, she quietly shifted closer, rested against me, and fell asleep. It was a small but incredibly meaningful moment of trust. Lady Bird is the kind of dog who doesn’t rush into things. She may not always ask for attention, but when she feels safe and you show her that she is allowed to want things, she truly melts into her surroundings. She is very gentle and has shown polite interest in other dogs, as she enjoys a quick sniff and then moves on. As a former mom, she seems to have a soft spot for younger dogs and calmly notices children on walks, standing still so they can pet her. She is also still working on eating consistently and can sometimes eat or drink too quickly when she does, so smaller, more frequent meals have been helpful.   Heartworm information: Lady Bird is a truly Lucky Dog. She tested positive for heartworms, but has been treated! Heartworm is not contagious to people or other pets, but results from mosquito bites. Heartworm, if left untreated, is life threatening, but after treatment, dogs that were heartworm positive should suffer no significant long-term effects so long as they are kept on a monthly heartworm preventative. Heartworm dogs can resume full active and normal lives, but need to be kept calm for 4-6 weeks after treatment. She has completed this activity restriction period.    Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken.  All of our dogs are working on their crate training.  TO ADOPT:    The adoption fee for this dog is $475, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations, spay/neuter, and heartworm treatment.  If you are interested in adopting, please complete the Adoption Questionnaire online at bit.ly/adoptaluckydog   Lucky Dog Animal Rescue does our best to provide accurate information about the dogs we have for adoption. Visit our event page (https://www.lostdogrescue.org/events/) to see which one—event listings are usually updated on Fridays with attending dogs. If you’re looking for a happy-go-lucky, sweet, and radiant girl, you’ve found her! Meet Pennick, the hound mix described by all who meet her as a sweet and friendly gal that is just so happy and so much fun to be around. She carries herself with a smile and love for life that is infectious. She is most excited to go outside; she loves walking, sniffing, and just being in the great outdoors. While she has done well inside and outside, she prefers to be outside, only needing a little time to adjust to being inside. New experiences can be a bit overwhelming for Pennick, as she is a fan of the investigate slowly method, rather than jumping right in. Once she’s comfortable, she continues being herself, bringing all the joy with her! This pretty girl isn’t just the best dog; she is also a looker! Her outstanding white coat with tan spots distinguishes her from the rest of the pack. Speaking of, Pennick has been just as friendly to other dogs as to all her human buddies. Ready to add some joy to your life? Adopt Pennick today!
