Animal Rescue of the Rockies believes every pet should find a wonderful and caring home. To ensure Amber Lynn finds the best possible home, we ask you fill out our adoption application so we can learn more about you and your household. We review each application in the order submitted and will contact you within 48 hours  (please check your spam folder for our emails) .   Amber Lynn | 1-Year-Old Shepherd Mix | Gentle Soul Learning to Trust Amber Lynn is a 1-year-old, 35-pound black-and-brown shepherd mix with a beautiful coat and a soft, sensitive heart. She is a sweet, calm, and friendly young dog who is still learning that the world—and people—can be kind. Amber Lynn is house trained and uses a doggie door, with little to no accidents, though as with any dog, occasional accidents can happen when adjusting to a new environment. She settles well and sleeps soundly through the night - she loves climbing into bed with her foster sister to cuddle and snooze through the night. She does great when left alone for short periods (up to about two hours) with other dogs in the house. Amber Lynn has positive interactions with other dogs of all sizes and especially enjoys playing with them outside. Given her history of living with many dogs, she seems to take comfort in canine companionship and would likely do best in a home with another dog. She has not met cats yet. She does well with older children and has been comfortable around kids ages 10 and up. While she was initially more comfortable with women, she has warmed up nicely to men and now enjoys quiet couch time and gentle affection from her foster family. Leashes are still a work in progress for Amber Lynn and currently feel overwhelming for her, but her foster plans to start gently introducing leash training. She has a medium energy level—happy with short bursts of activity and play, followed by plenty of downtime and naps. She knows basic cues like “come” and “no,” responds well to structure, and is motivated by both food and affection. She loves treats (especially gravy-flavored milk bones) but hasn’t quite discovered a favorite toy yet. Amber Lynn can be shy and a bit nervous, especially with certain types of touch, and may back away at first. However, when given time and space, she shows just how affectionate she can be—resting her head on your lap, snuggling on the couch, and curling up close to her canine companion at bedtime. She has made steady progress since coming into foster care and continues to grow more confident each day. Occasionally, she may chew on things when left alone, though this happens infrequently. Her ideal home would be a patient, calm household with another dog, where she can continue building confidence at her own pace and enjoy a lifetime of gentle love and companionship.   If you and the dog are a good match then we'll connect you with our dog's foster parents to chat more in-depth. If both you and the foster agree that the dog is a good fit then a meet and greet is scheduled. We require applicants' dogs to meet ours to ensure they get along. We'll ask you to read and sign our adoption agreement and pay the adoption fee to complete the adoption when it comes time. Our adoption fees help cover the costs of saving more lives!  A home visit will be scheduled within one week of your new pet going home with you.  The adoption fee for this pet is $375. Our adoption fee covers the following: Spay/neuter Microchip DAPP vaccinations as age-appropriate for the dog.  Rabies vaccinations as age-appropriate for the dog. Adopters shall be responsible for all vaccinations after adoption. Please fill out an adoption application by clicking  here . Please give us 48 hours to review your application and respond to you. (Remember to check your spam folder for our emails!) We want our pets to go to a lifelong new home, so thank you for your patience during the adoption process! Story
Animal Rescue of the Rockies believes every pet should find a wonderful and caring home. To ensure Sally #4 finds the best possible home, we ask you fill out our adoption application so we can learn more about you and your household. We review each application in the order submitted and will contact you within 48 hours  (please check your spam folder for our emails) .   Sally #4 | 7 years | German Shepherd mix with a soft side Sally is a 7-year-old German Shepherd mix weighing about 65 pounds with beautiful brown-and-black coloring and a heart that truly loves her people. She is affectionate, sweet, and enjoys being close to her humans—belly rubs are a favorite, and she is always happy to curl up for cuddles once she feels comfortable. While she can be a bit shy and nervous at first, she warms up with patience and consistency and shows a loyal, protective side to those she trusts. Sally is fully house trained and uses a doggie door with little to no accidents; however, as with many dogs, occasional accidents could happen while she adjusts to a new environment. She is comfortable being left alone for 6–8 hours with other dogs in the house and will settle after some initial barking at outside noises, which is easily redirected with commands. Crate training is going great—she goes in willingly, sleeps through the night, and often chooses her kennel for daytime naps. She knows several basic commands, including come, sit, stay, no, and wait, and responds well to structure and clear boundaries. On leash, Sally can find walks stressful and may bark or react when she sees other dogs, people, or wheeled objects, though she is easily redirected and has no issues with large vehicles like trucks or motorcycles. She enjoys walks overall, as well as car rides, toys, chewing bones, and playing with her stuffies. Around other dogs, she does best with dogs her own size and has successfully bonded with a same-size dog in her foster home. She can be protective around food and toys, offering warning growls if another dog gets too close, so thoughtful management and continued training are important. Sally has not yet been tested with cats or children. She has no preference for men or women and truly loves people. Her energy level falls between medium and high—she enjoys daily activity and playtime but is also able to relax and settle when it is time to unwind. Her ideal home is a patient, active family with strong leadership who will give her time to build trust and confidence. Sally would thrive in a stable, loving home committed to helping her feel safe and secure for the long term.     If you and the dog are a good match then we'll connect you with our dog's foster parents to chat more in-depth. Story
Hi, I'm Elsa! I’m a fun-loving 3-year-old mixed breed with tons of energy and a big heart! Playing is my favorite thing—especially a good game of fetch or tug-o-war. I’d love to be your one-and-only pet, but I do great with kids and would be thrilled to have some human playmates. If you’re looking for a loyal, playful best friend, I’m your girl! If you're interested in adopting me, fill out an adoption application online at www.polkcountyhumanesociety.org/adopt where you will also find a link to reserve me for an appointment. Some pets are in foster homes or may already have an appointment scheduled, so the appointment is important to make sure I will be available to meet you when you come. Polk County Humane Society is located in Bolivar, Missouri, but also makes transports to the Denver, CO, Des Moines, IA and St. Louis areas twice monthly. For potential adopters in those areas, we can do a virtual visit using FaceTime or another app. Just request an appointment using the same link, but note that you want the visit to be virtual. We will call you at the time of the visit once it is confirmed. For long distance transports to Colorado and Iowa, there is an additional $100 fee to cover the cost of the transport ($65) and a health certificate from a veterinarian ($35). For transports to St. Louis, the additional fee is $50 to help cover gas. Going that last mile home for our sweet pets! All of our pets are neutered or spayed, have vaccinations appropriate for their age, treated with flea/tick/heartworm prevention, dewormed and dogs are also microchipped. #adoptdontshop ##2177060##

Story
Hi, I'm Romper! I'm a 2 year old German Shepherd mix with tons of life! I showed up at my foster's house a few months ago and I was really skinny, actually emaciated. I was missing patches of hair and covered in fleas and ticks. Thankfully, my foster got me all cleane dup and is now helping me find my forever home. I'm an energetic girl and I love toys (especially chew toys and tug-o-war). Even though I'm 50 lbs- I'm still a lap dog lol. I'm super smart and pick up on things quickly. I do great with other dogs, cats, and even goats (no chickens though!)  If you're interested in adopting me, fill out an adoption application online at www.polkcountyhumanesociety.org/adopt where you will also find a link to reserve me for an appointment. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Hi, my name is Willie and I'm a handsome, highly intelligent GSD/Husky mix. My DNA test says 80% German Shepherd.   For the last year, I've been living with a wonderful older couple, but I have too much energy for them, and they had a hard time meeting my needs. I lived with an older dog too but he passed away. I have been weaned off my  anxiety meds now that I'm in a foster home, and my exercise needs are being met.  I'd prefer a home without small children. I have been known to correct them with my mouth. Not a bite, just a hold.  When my foster parents let me outdoors, I'll patrol the property to make sure our turf is safe and secure. My foster parents have noticed that I'm uncomfortable around men who wear hats and sunglasses. I do have an independent nature, but I like to keep watch as to where my humans are. Besides playing fetch, I enjoy other outdoor adventures. I would love to find a home with a GSD/Husky-experienced adopter who will provide me with lots of exercise and mental stimulation. Adventure seekers, please take note! If you are interested, please go to adoptagsd.org and submit an online application. My adoption fee is $350.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.September 23, 2025, 9:34 am

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. AdoptaGSD.org   Please consider that some of these dogs have been abandoned or ignored by their previous owners, having little interaction with someone who cares about them. When adopted, they will need time to adjust to the changes in their life. Update: I have spent some time in a Board and Train program and the trainer reported that I arrived as an insecure, untrained dog who really didn't know even basic commands, and I was easily distracted or became over-stimulated. My insecurities led to excessive barking and nipping. The trainer worked with me using a calm, confident style while setting very clear boundaries, so I learned the difference between right and wrong. He recommends that I be adopted as an only dog, because when I'm around other dogs, I can get over-stimulated, which can spill over to other negative behaviors. I would love to find a home with a single person or couple who have a fairly quiet household (no kids). My adopter will need to continue with my training and set clear boundaries for me. The trainer will also provide a complimentary training session to help with the transition and discounted rates for additional training sessions. I would love to find my new person so I can show him or her how affectionate, loyal and devoted I can be!   Hi, I'm Gunner, a handsome 2 1/2 yr old boy who was surrendered to FRGSR by my former owner due to his failing health. My owner was sad to have to surrender me, but rather than abandoning me at a shelter where I may not have made it out, he asked FRGSR if they could help to find me a new home, and thankfully, they said yes. Losing my owner and my home has left me wondering what happened and I'm feeling a little unsure of things. I'm currently living in a foster home, and my foster mom has noted that I'm definitely a boy who needs an owner with GSD experience. I'm particular about my canine friends, because I like some, but not others. I'm crate trained and house trained.  Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet. When adopted, they will need time to adjust to the changes in their life. Update: For the last several months, I've been living with a foster who's also a dog trainer and I've made amazing progress!  I have done well around other dogs, both large and small, with proper introductions.  I LOVE to play fetch! I've also done well with the resident kitties. I've been non-reactive to people and other dogs while on walks. Nothing brings me more joy than pleasing my humans. My commands are spot-on, and I know sit/stay, down/stay, come, heel and place. I've had lots of fun accompanying my foster parents on hiking, camping and road trips. I'm a boy who thrives with structure, routine and proper exercise. I need a patient, experienced adopter who know breeds like me and lives in a house rather than a multi-unit complex. Is that you? Hi, my name is Gustaf, and I'm a 4 year old male GSD  who was adopted out in 2022 when I was a cute puppy then returned because I was given too much freedom which led to problems. I ended up chasing bicycles and I grabbed the mailman's calf while delivering mail one day.  I'm guarded when I first meet new people, but I do warm up over time with slow introductions, and once you're in my inner circle, I'm very affectionate and loving. The rescue is hoping to find a home without young children as they can open doors accidentally. When adopted, they will need time to adjust to the changes in their life. Hey there, I’m  Laki —a  2 year old mix  who was transferred to FRGSR after my former owner gave me away and then I ended up at a shelter.  I'm beautiful, fun-loving, and just starting a new chapter in life! I may not have those classic pointy shepherd ears (I prefer the laid-back look), but trust me, my personality is pure gold.   I’ve recently competed a  board and train program  to help me build confidence and become the best version of myself. I’m a total people-lover and thrive with structure and guidance. When it comes to other dogs, I’m definitely  selective —a girl knows what she wants!   Here’s a little about me:   &#226&#156&#133 Obsessed with affection – If you’ve got hands, they better be petting me. &#226&#156&#133 Always ready for adventure – running, playing, and soaking up the good life. &#226&#156&#133 Confident queen in training – building trust and learning at my pace. &#226&#156&#133 cats - not an issue    Stay tuned for updates as I learn and grow! She does great in a crate, gets along with dogs of all sizes. When she gets really excited? Cue the zoomies Fair warning: Bonnie is a professional kisser and is still learning puppy manners like not jumping or being mouthy—because yes, she is very much a puppy. Her soft eyes will absolutely stare into your soul, and while she’s curious about new things, she’s polite enough to walk away if she’s unsure. Overall, she’s a sweet, gentle, learning-as-she-goes kind of girl—and we’re loving every minute getting to know her. Whelped approximately Sept 1 2025. When adopted, they will need time to adjust to the changes in their life. Dakota Fanning is approximately 1 1/2 years old. Foster says..She loves balls and toys. She's a bit timid with things, for instance a ball fell into a small two gallon bucket and it spooked her trying to get it out.    Like all of them, she tries to keep Cori away from me as a form of resource guarding. But she is not aggressive with food, and she isnt as rough as others have been when playing.    One that I think is unusual is she will come up to me a let me know she wants something with single barks. Like when she hungry or wants to go out. And she always wants to go out, she loves being outside. lastly, she pretty much just skin and bones, so hopefully she put on some weight now.
