Story
Aster and her five siblings were born to their mother, Gloria, on March 25th in a shelter near our rescue. At just 3 days old, she and her family came into our care, where she has spent the past several months growing, thriving and preparing for her forever home.
Aster is a gentle, thoughtful girl with an observant personality. She may hang back for a moment to see what her more adventurous companions think before trying something new, but once she feels comfortable, she warms up quickly and happily seeks out affection. She greets visitors with tail wags and loves being loved on.
Her gentle nature carries over into playtime, too. Aster enjoys running around with her doggy foster siblings and would do best with playmates who aren't overly rough or physical. She has also lived successfully with cats. She’s curious about them in a friendly, puppy-like way and has done well living alongside them.
Aster has a sensitive personality and responds best to patient, positive guidance. Any children in her future home should be respectful and gentle with dogs. She would especially love a person or family who is home much of the day and can give her plenty of companionship, playtime, and opportunities to bond.
Aster is crate trained, sleeps through the night and is doing well with leash training. She is quiet, nondestructive and very content in her crate. She's also extremely treat motivated, which makes training her easier.
When it's time to play, Aster loves squeaky toys, Benebones and emptying the toy tub one toy at a time until they're scattered around the yard. She also LOVES water and will happily hop into her foster family's two-foot-deep galvanized pool to splash around and cool off. After running and playing with the other pups, she's just as happy to stretch out in the sunshine and settle in for a long afternoon nap.
We expect Aster to grow to around the size of her mama, Gloria, who weighs approximately 65 pounds. She has a thick, beautiful coat and will likely do very well in cooler climates. Aster is still young, but she already has so many wonderful qualities: she's affectionate, gentle, playful, eager to learn and incredibly sweet-natured. We can easily picture her growing into an amazing companion and future hiking partner for the right person.
Aster is fully vetted, microchipped, on flea, tick and heartworm prevention and ready for a family to call her own.
