Story
This is a courtesy post for a family looking to rehome their dog Ivy. She is about 4-5 years old. Here is her bio, from her family: Ivy was initially adopted as a shelter stray in rural New Mexico in her late puppyhood. At that time, she had plenty of open land, quiet, and stability. This all quickly changed as we started moving to increasingly urban areas. With more noise, lass land and more foster animals in and out Ivy has shown increased anxiety. She does not like fireworks or gunshots but with this unfortunate noise exposure, she is growing less and less sensitive to thunderstorms. She has been seen and treated by veterinary behaviorists for her stress and we’ve been told that she is a dog that does not handle change well. She needs a lot of companionship with her person or people and to get more exercise which is part of her breed, of course. We both work 10-12 hours daily and have another move which once again will involve massive restoration work in the near future. We know we’re not the right parents for her and Ivy deserves happiness. Ivy is a great dog. Despite her anxiety, she has never bitten anyone in any setting. She has lived with a cat and a small dog successfully but we’re hoping that she can be an only dog as she seems to really want the one-on-one attention. Personally, I think it should be “all about Ivy” time, if you know what I mean?! She is entirely housebroken and travels well in the car in a seatbelt attached to her travel harness. She loves to go for leashed walks on a near daily basis. She tends to pull just in the very beginning out of excitement but then will walk by your side for the rest of the time. We use a Martingale collar. When she does pull, she is strong. Ivy knows sit reliably, will come when called, doesn’t run off, and will down sometimes, not always. She is crate trained. Of course, she would go to her new home with all of her belongings for her comfort and familiarity. Ivy is fully vetted with annual exams with bloodwork (all normal), current on her vaccines and preventatives- heartworm and flea and tick. No known hip dysplasia or Pannus. She is microchipped and this is monitored by Home Again. She is also very good in the clinical setting, which can’t be said for all GSheps! Ivy is gentle and sweet with children. These are all new children she meets as we don’t have them in the home, but the neighborhood kids will come out of nowhere to pet her! At home when someone comes to the door or near the house, Ivy has mean bark that would make a would-be intruder think twice but she will definitely let your guests in. In fact, she’ll likely hide behind your legs until she gets to know them. Then she’ll probably nose poke them hello! Ivy is food-motivated and loves her dehydrated chicken strips although really any treat would do, I’m sure. A frozen, black stuffed Kong will keep her occupied for some time and in between she loves to chew on Nylabones. Her diet has been Hill’s Science Diet for years. We get the Active Mobility to protect her joints because she’s large and in consideration of her breed when it’s available, and when it’s not just the adult version. Ivy is a sweet and loving dog who deserves only the best. Please feel free to reach out with any questions you may have. BTW, if the most perfect adopter is not super close by, we will find a way to get Ivy there safely. Ivy is currently being fostered by her original owners while they look for a new home for her. If you are interested in meeting her, please send a message here, or email adopt@ahsem.org and we will connect you.

Story
Finn is a lovable, cuddly Shepherd Beagle mix who loves long walks, playing ball, and sitting in laps. He will be 9 years old this summer (exact birthdate unknown). We are heartbroken to have to find him a new home— we adopted him when he was 1.5 and he’s been a wonderful adventure buddy. Unfortunately he does not get along well with kids and now that we have two it’s become too difficult to manage. He deserves a home where he’s not stressed all the time. He’s so loving and affectionate toward adults! He gets along well with our terrier mix but is 50/50 with other dogs and has some resource guarding tendencies. He also has pancreatitis which he’s been on steroids for but is now being weaned off and switched to a probiotic- hopefully that will be easier to manage! The pancreatitis makes it hard for him to eat and he occasionally has some flare ups but overall it’s been fine to manage. He really is just the sweetest boy!

Story
Princess is an approximately 3 year old spayed female shepherd mix that desperately needs a home. Her owner was unable to continue to feed her, and a neighbor stepped up to help care for Princess but they are not able to care for her long-term. Princess is good with other dogs, and after having multiple litters of puppies before getting spayed, she is very maternal. She is friendly with strangers but will let you know when they come into the yard! Princess appears to be house-trained and is non-destructive when she comes inside the house at night to sleep. Once she knows where “home” is, she is not one to wander and sticks close to where her people are. Princess is fully vaccinated but is unfortunately heartworm positive.

Story
Luci was rescued by a kind soul that found her by the river super skinny. She called us and we picked her up. We believe she is a purebred GSD. She is on the smaller side at just 40lbs so if you love the breed but can't handle a very large dog, Luci would be perfect. She is spayed, UTD on all required vaccines, HW tested negative and microchipped. Typical to the breed, Luci does have a prey drive so no cats or small dogs or other small pets. She loves people and gets along well with a large group of dogs here. Also, Luci is reliably housetrained. If you would like to make this beautiful and sweet girl your new family member, please email omlc7@hotmail.com or dogs4mylife@gmail.com and we will send our info and application. Story
This sweet sweet girl is looking for her forever home! Meet Joy! She is 3yr old German Shepherd Mix and loves the great outdoors. She is super super sweet, loves people, walks very well on a leash, and will be a wonderful addition to your family. She will have to be the only pet in the home as she is a little anxious around other animals but with training and patience she can conquer anything! We recommend you come and meet her first, come on a walk with her, and see her play until the day is done. She will need someone who has experience with shepherd breeds or German Shepards. She is located in West Bloomfield on Orchard and Walnut. She will come with toys and a bag of food. Please let me know if you are interested in adding a little extra joy into your life!

Story
Hello, I operate a small boarding and training business. I currently sport my Malinois in PSA. Dave is a great dog who I homed for a client, but feel rehoming him would be best for him as my business and sport consume my time. He is an active dog, he is agreeable and playful with other dogs. He is a shepherd and therefore can be defensive towards strangers, but his defense is distance increase signaling and non-advancing -- typical of the breed. I will offer my services to anyone who decides to home him. His training is limited, however he is familiar with sit, down, place, pinch collar use, clicker (terminal marker), and the beginning steps of a recall, he is crate trained. I will begin increasing his training to improve his ease for the next handler. I want to emphasize, he is a good dog, he is very affectionate and loving; I am not rehoming him because he is problematic but to focus on competing.
