***My adoption fee is waived until 7/18/2026 with a grant from Petfinder. Please come to the shelter and meet me.**Lena is a 1.5-year-old shepherd with a striking black and brown coat and a quiet, thoughtful presence. When she first arrived, she was understandably unsure of her new surroundings and preferred to stay settled in her space, moving only when needed and taking the world in carefully. Once outside, she showed she’s comfortable on leash, trotting along politely and even taking care of her business right away, suggesting she may be housebroken. Lena is sensitive and cautious with handling, often needing a little time and space before accepting touch, but she cooperates calmly when given gentle guidance. Underneath her shy exterior is a beautiful, elegant girl who is still learning that the world can be safe and kind.

Story
This is Apollo. He was rescued as a stray from a shelter back in November, we believe he's about 3 years old. We're not sure of the kind of life Apollo had before the shelter, but we know he has so much love in him. He is a remarkable dog, he's fast and silly and will steal your heart immediately. In the beginning, Apollo was a seasoned escape-artist, as many of his breed are. After he adapted to life with us, his desire to escape has lessened tremendously.Unfortunately, as Apollo got more comfortable, his separation anxiety got worse. He refuses the crate, he panics when left alone even briefly, and he has become more reactive with his play. Apollo is NOT an aggressive dog, but he does play very rough with my young child and has been increasing in intensity to get us to this point. We do not have the ability to contain and train in the way that he needs right now, and that breaks our hearts. We are looking to help him find an experienced owner who can help him live his best life.

Story
Updated Bio as of June 2023: Jupiter was originally found as a lost pup with her 2 brothers in a corn field during winter. She nearly froze to death, she was so cold she couldn't run/move quickly and people were able to catch her. They were all very thin and had to fight to survive with the coyotes out there. Jupiter is learning to trust humans and will be a happy dog around me but still skittish over touch. With new people she will take time to warm up for sure. Jupiter's adoption fee is sponsored. She is ok with other dogs but initially acts like she's aggressive. It's the survival mode in her. Once she knows they aren't going to hurt her she warms up. She will need to be fed separately from other animals. At Autumn Acres Animal Rescue we believe each individual animal matters. We take in special cases some of which will stay with us as a sanctuary dog.If the animal is listed as a Socially Imperfect Dog this means they have special needs and special requirements for potential adopters. If the animal is listed as a Socially Imperfect RESIDENT this animal is NOT available for adoption and is one of our sanctuary residents. We list them on our sites because they still matter and they still need donations to help with their long term care.Check out our website for more information: http://www.autumnacres.org

Story
We adopted Ella at KC Pet Project in 2019. She is now 7 years old and is very playful. She was very skiddish when we first got her so she does not respond well to yelling or clapping out of frustration. I believe she needs to be in a single dog household. She is very cuddly and loves walks. She responds decent off leash and will come back if called. If professionally trained I’m sure she would be a great hiking/trail dog. We are so sad to have to get rid of her, but I think it would be best for her to be able to get the walks and love she deserves!

Story
Sirius is 4 years old. Got him through a AKC certified breeder. He is potty trained and kennel trained. He's a lover. He thinks he's a lapdog! He's very intelligent and can be trained with proper training! I have to get rid of him due to a child moving in with him who is highly allergic. Shots up to date. Neutered. Dog friendly. Cat friendly. Kid friendly (might jump on them with excitement).
