You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Meet Katie – A Survivor Who’s Ready for Her Forever Home! Katie is a stunning 4-year-old German Shepherd (65 lbs) with a sleek black-and-silver coat and the gentlest heart. She has been waiting over 3 years for her forever family, and it’s time this beautiful girl finally gets the home she deserves. Katie’s life didn’t start out easy. She was rescued from a hoarding situation where 12 starving dogs were left to fight over a single bag of food tossed in once a day. As the youngest, smallest, and most submissive, Katie was attacked when she tried to eat. She became skin-and-bones, carrying scars on her side and ear, and survived by eating rocks and scraps. She likely had a litter of puppies before she was even a year old. But despite everything, Katie’s spirit shines. She is gentle, forgiving, and absolutely LOVES people—especially kids. Her favorite game is fetch, and she’s so clever she’ll roll the ball back to you when she wants another throw. Watching her play and interact is pure joy—she makes everyone around her smile. Katie has been professionally trained and is a dream companion: she walks politely on leash, rides calmly in the car, behaves wonderfully at the vet, loves her kennel, and hardly ever barks. She is affectionate, loyal, and so eager to love her people. Because of her past, Katie prefers to be the only dog in the home, where she can finally feel safe and cherished. She has already shown she can live alongside another dog with careful management(a strict kennel rotations), but her perfect forever family will let her shine on her own.Katie is:• 4 years old, 65 lbs, female• Black/silver color, stunning girl• Loving, playful, and affectionate• Amazing with kids and people of all ages• LOVE playing fetch, will roll a ball to you• Fully trained by professionals and easy to handle• Great at car rider(she loves it)• Good at vet and a glooming• A true survivor with a heart full of love• MUST be the only dog in the home• Due to high prey drive, no catKatie has waited far too long for her happily ever after. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Noel is a goofy, beautiful, carefree, energetic and very loving girl who just wants to have fun. She loves playing with the other dogs, going on walks, or just generally doing whatever her foster family is doing. She's going to make someone a fantastic buddy and companion. BACKSTORYNoel came to MOGS after she was seized by animal control for cruelty. She was starved, dehydrated and left outside with no shelter. She is currently is a foster home. TEMPERAMENT / BEHAVIOR Noel is amazing. She was seized for extreme cruelty but despite her suffering she still loves people. She's a sweet little girl who is very soft, friendly and goofy. She wants to greet everyone and will be very vocal about it. She loves being in the same room with her humans and will follow everywhere. She acts as a tripping hazard since she picks the least out of the way spot to lay down, especially in the kitchen. She does tend to sniff the counter and floor for yummies but has never jumped up to grab anything. Will try her best to reach into a high chair to get leftovers but will leave it if told to. Her foster family doesn't leave things towards the edge of counters so she is not given the opportunity to steal anything. She does like to chew on stuffed animals and does not know the difference between her toys and baby's toys so her foster family does their best to just keep non-dog toys off the floor. Like most GSDs Noel is a super shedder, her fur is very thick. TRAININGShe's learning basic manners and doing very well. She is food driven which will help with her training. The first new behavior she had to practice was waiting at baby gates or backyard fences. She has climbed a fence to follow her person on the other side. With a 6 ft fence she will be fine, with a somewhat lower fence, she will need complete supervision in the backyard to avoid escaping. She sometimes jumps baby gates to be closer to her people. She is pretty good at listening and has learned the sit command. She is house broken and crate trained. She does okay on a leash and is currently walked with a combo of the martingale collar and a gentle leader for better control. She can get a bit wild and unruly when other dogs are near since she wants to go say hi and play. Her future family will need to spend the time to exercise her and stimulate her, and finish her training using good canine leadership skills. OTHER ANIMALSNoel gets along with most dogs; she just wants to play. Sometimes she plays too rough for other dogs because she is so excited. She does not seem to understand her size and she is very fast moving. Currently lives with her foster siblings, a 25lb dog and a 12lb chiweenie. Noel does seem to respect the smaller dog's space. Noel would do best with a same size and energy level doggie buddy to play and romp with. She's still got a lot of puppy in her and occasionally doesn’t notice when other dogs tell her they're tired, so you may have to remind her that play time is over. She takes correction easily and is perfectly willing to go inside and let the other dogs rest. Noel has a mild-to-moderate small prey drive and cannot be in a home with cats. PEOPLENoel does well with adults and is very good with kids. She has been very patient with the human toddler in her foster home. When the young one gets a little crazy, she for the most part handles it very well. She has learned the command 'escape' or move away from toddler reach. When she has reached her limit, she will let him know with a nudge or growl but has never shown aggression. Noel is a large, strong and energetic dog who has the potential to be too rough in play and knock a child over, or collide with a child. As with all large dogs, she must be supervised around small children just to be sure things don't get too rough. MEDICAL Up-to-date on all vaccines, has a current rabies tag, is spayed and has been microchipped. She was originally heartworm positive but has been treated and is heartworm free. Noel has a toenail that grows up and over but doesn't appear to cause her any discomfort other than when she has her nails trimmed. At some point prior to coming to MOGS, Noel suffered from a LEFT hind leg femur fracture that did not receive any treatment, so healed slightly misaligned. Because of this, she does sometimes experience discomfort in that leg and requires intermittent pain management with an anti-inflammatory pain reliever. She also receives joint supplement support on a daily basis. Noel's injured leg has been assessed by her regular vet, as well as orthopedic experts at Blue Pearl, and both experts agree this will be a chronic monitoring situation which will need intermittent pain management for life. Even though Noel has medium to high energy, this leg can sometimes significantly limit her activity due to discomfort. At those times, she will do best with short walks around the neighborhood, just not too far as she cannot handle it. Noel has no other known medical issues.   If you're looking for a gorgeous, trainable furballwho will love you forever,NOEL is your girl! Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.ATLAS is one of five siblings that were taken in from a backyard breeder with signs of extreme neglect. All of the dogs were severely underweight, covered in fleas and ticks, coated in filth and sick with eye and ear infections. Almost all of them were covered in scars and scabs from teeth and claw injuries as well. Atlas and his siblings were basically living as a feral pack outside for their entire lives, with no exposure to other dogs besides the breeding pairs on the premises, and little to no human interaction. Their survival of the fittest environment left them desperately unsocialized, and fearful of everything and everybody.  TEMPERAMENT/BEHAVIOR Atlas is full of puppy energy and love! He LOVES his people and his favorite place to be is near them. Despite him being nearly starved and having to fight other dogs for food before he came to MOGS, he's not highly food motivated, and even runs between his food bowl and his fosters at meal times to be sure they're still there before finally finishing his food. He's gotten SO MUCH better at not jumping when he's excited, although he's not at 100%, he's putting a lot of tries on the board and has made a ton of progress, he's still a puppy so needs consistency to learn to dos and don'ts.  Atlas is very shy with strangers, he won't be the type of dog to make friends with everyone who wants to give him attention, he prefers to keep his trust circle smaller, but does not react to strangers in an aggressive or reactive manner, he'd rather practice the art of avoidance if given the chance.  TRAINING Atlas is kennel trained, he will even play in his kennel by himself with toys, or his food bowl if it's left in there. That being said, he WILL pull items through a wire kennel if given the chance. And due to his separation anxiety, he'll often bark or howl for a while after being kenneled and then left alone. But he has not broken out of a wire kennel or caused any damage to the kennel itself, however, he will rip apart any blankets, beds, mats etc. that are in his kennel, so at a result, we do not recommend giving him anything that could be torn apart and possibly ingested. Atlas sleeps in his kennel and will pitch a short fit at bedtime, but then sleeps through the night. Atlas is fully potty trained, and is getting used to pottying while on walks, he much prefers to use the comfort of his own yard if given the chance, and would hold it until his walks were over and he could get back to the house to use the fenced back yard.  Atlas does well on a martingale for walking, but will on occasion charge at another dog or cat, so a prong collar has been used for corrections in this case. He's been started on an ecollar with greater success vs. the prong.  PEOPLE Atlas LOVES his people. After spending the first 4-5 months of his life outdoors, he is still weary of strangers at first. With people he'll just shy away from them, but does not bark, lunge, growl, lip lift or snap, he'll try to avoid them if possible. But once he settles in, he just wants to be with his people. As a result he does have some separation anxiety and should be kenneled when left alone to avoid him getting injured or damaging property. Atlas was around small children ages 2-7, and did very well with them, he's a little leary, but found them to be a source of attention after the 4 year old (who loves the dogs the most) began talking to him, petting his head, and then proceeded to cover him with a blanket and stroke his head. Atlas is VERY bouncy though, so did knock down the 2 year old and bumped into the older kids when he got excited. His foster dad is probably his favorite person. He'll 'cobb' his beard when he gets the chance, either waking him up that way in the mornings or waiting for him to give him attention when he gets home from work during the day.  OTHER ANIMALS Atlas does exhibit dog reactivity, if out walking and another dog charges towards him, either on leash or behind a fence, he will react by charging back, barking and trying to make himself look bigger. He has been around a submissive male that loves to play, and will play with him, but does exhibit possessive and more dominant behaviors on occasion. Such as not responding to the other dogs' body language (lip lifting/growling/warning snaps). He would need a proper and slow introduction to any dogs he meets, and crating and rotating would be key while he gets settled.  Atlas is reactive to cats as well. He will try to chase, and will charge and bark at them in the same manner he does with other dogs outside the home.  MEDICAL Atlas is still recovering from his life prior to MoGS, he's underweight but is working to gain as he continues to hit his growth spurts now that he's receiving proper nutrition and food on a consistent basis. FUN FACTS: His favorite time of day is the morning, when he gets out of his kennel, goes outside with his people, and then his foster mom (who works from home) has him eating in his kennel while she starts her work day during the week, or on the weekends after breakfast, will sit on the couch having coffee while he plays with his toys in the living room after breakfast. Atlas LOVES toys too. He'll self entertain throwing them around, and then get his puppy zoomies out by doing a couple laps around the house. He's now got energy and is finding ways to channel that other than jumping or chewing things he shouldn't or just moving items around, such as shoes, hand towels, socks, etc. As he's learning what he can and cannot play with/chew, the occasions where he picks up something he shouldn't have continued to decrease.  Atlas also loves to howl along with any sirens. If an emergency vehicle is going by, he'll let you know. He'll also watch TV on occasion, and will howl along with any TV sirens. If you're watching a video on your phone with the sounds of other dogs, be prepared for Atlas to come check it out too! His favorite move is his bunny hop frolic instead of running, he'll bound along.  He also loves a good pet session, and will jump up next to you on the couch and duck his head under your chin and press his head on your chest for hugs and snugs. He does NOT get his feelings hurt easily and is just happy to be talked to and included in your day to day. Atlas is a sweet boy underneath all those rough edges, and bonds hard and fast to people who provide care and attention. He will need an experienced GSD handler, who has the patience to continue to slowly acclimate him to new people, places and things, and not try to rush him faster than he can manage.   If you're looking for a gorgeous, young, trainable German Shepherd who will love you forever,Atlas may be your ideal family member! Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.KOBE transferred to MOGS from Maple Woods Vet Tech Program after they pulled him from a local shelter Kobe is the ultimate “love life” kind of dog — happy, friendly, and always ready to make new friends (human or canine!). He’s a total sweetheart who just wants to be your best buddy, soak up all the pets, and be part of the fun. If you ask Kobe what his favorite part of the day is, he’d say: mealtime! This guy LOVES food and treats — it’s definitely the way to his heart. His food motivation makes him super easy to train, too! He’s already mastered sit, stay, come, kennel up, load up, wait, down, place, and even crawl. We’re still working on “drop it” and “leave it”... but, you know, when snacks are involved, he sometimes pretends not to hear us.  Kobe has a nice balance of energy — he’s always down to play and have some fun, but he doesn’t need hours of exercise every day. He’s kennel trained (though accidents happen now and then), housebroken, and rides in the car like a pro. He also walks beautifully on leash and loves chasing squirrels in the backyard. In fact, he’s got some serious hops! He can jump almost as high as his foster’s 6-foot fence — not to escape, just to make sure that sneaky squirrel gets the message. Bath time? No problem! Kobe handles it like a champ. Now, every dog has their quirks, right? Kobe’s challenge is the vet. Because of some rough experiences in his past, he’s very fearful of being handled by vets and needs heavy sedation for any hands-on care. He’ll happily walk into the office, get on the scale, and even greet everyone — but the moment he thinks something’s coming toward him, his fear takes over. He’s also made huge progress with resource guarding — something he’s been working through beautifully with his foster family. Whether it’s because he’s learned to trust them or he’s truly relaxing, it’s hard to say, but he’s doing so much better! Building trust will be key for his future family. We’re still figuring out how he feels about nail trims and cats, but overall, Kobe is an affectionate, goofy, food-loving companion who just wants to love and be loved in return If you're looking for a handsome, friendly guy who loves life, KOBE is the one for you! Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.DAISY came to MOGS from a large-scale puppy mill/hoarder situation several weeks pregnant, significantly underweight, full of parasites, double ear infections, and HW+TEMPERAMENT / BEHAVIORAgainst all odds, Daisy is a sweet-tempered, loving and affection seeking girl. She loves to hang out with her people, snuggle up next to them on the couch, and relax. When relaxation time is over, Daisy is a moderate-energy girl, and requires daily exercise. She loves to walk, and is working on her leash skills (we're not sure she'd ever been on a leash before coming to us). She is also super smart, wants to please, and is very food motivated. She can sometimes have a hard mouth if she is excited, so is working on the concept of 'gentle' when taking treats. Daisy is working on learning sit, down, wait and free. She is crate-trained and house-trained, but isn't yet safe to roam a home unsupervised due to unintentionally destructive behavior when loose inside - she tends to runover, into and through everything still. PEOPLE and KIDSDaisy loves people of all ages and sizes. Because she is so under-socialized at this point, and doesn't seem to understand her size and strength, she would do best in a home with kids 10+OTHER ANIMALSDaisy is in a foster home with other dogs her size and energy level, and appears to be able to get along with all of their different personalities. She can be a rough player, and would likely enjoy another dog of her size and energy level, and slow initial introductions. Daisy has a very intense small prey drive and is 100% NOT SAFE with cats or other small animals. She likely needs a fenced-in yard with, at minimum, a 6-ft privacy fence, due to how intensely she focuses on small prey animals when outside. MEDICAL Daisy is up-to-date on vaccines, has a current rabies tag, is microchipped and has been spayed. Daisy did test as Heartworm + on intake, but has been successfully treated and is heartworm freeDaisy has no other known health issues. If you're looking for a gorgeous, young, trainable German Shepherd who will love you forever,Daisy may be your ideal family member! DAISY'S ADOPTION FEE:   $350 This fee covers only part of what we spend to vet, board and rehab the dogs we save. On average we spend over $450 on each dog. At minimum, your adoption fee includes the dog's spay/neuter, heartworm test, heartworm treatment if needed, rabies shot, distemper/parvo shot, bordatella shot, deworming, monthly heartworm and flea preventives, and microchip.
ATLAS'S ADOPTION FEE:   $400 + $100 Refundable Neuter Deposit This fee covers only part of what we spend to vet, board and rehab the dogs we save.  On average we spend over $450 on each dog.  We made a decision to keep our adoption fee at the 2005 level even though vet prices have doubled and tripled since then.  We are constantly fundraising to cover the deficit.  At minimum, your adoption fee includes the dog's spay/neuter, heartworm test, heartworm treatment if needed, rabies shot, distemper/parvo shot, bordatella shot, deworming, monthly heartworm and flea preventives, and microchip.  In many cases it also includes surgery and various types of vet treatment for standard issues such as hot spots, ear infections and so on.INTERESTED IN ADOPTING ATLAS?Complete an Adoption Application Now!Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.STOP!! Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Background - Hailey is goofy, tail chaser of a young GSD! She is energetic with a high toy drive. She loves balls, mile long walks, and outdoor playtime. Hailey LOVES new people and is very warm and welcoming after a controled meet and greet. This energetic girl came to MOGs from a local shelter after her previous owners no longer wanted her energy. Temperment/Behavioral - Hailey has made tremendous progress in the last year. Hailey walks on a leash well with an alternative collar. (She is still practicing her manners on a regular leash and collar.) She can walk calmly even with other dogs in the area. She will bark but has not shown agressivness towards other dogs. Hailey still acts like a puppy so she is learning mouthing manners. Potential adopters will need to understand mouthing and continue her education towards a well behaved pup. She does well on basic commands like sit, even when very excited. As with many young GSDs, Hailey has selective hearing. She knows her commands, but chooses when to listen. Unfortunately, she has proven that she will counter surf if bored. She knows that’s where her treats come from! The good news is that she is treat modivated and trains easily. As mentioned above, Hailey is working on following her commands 100% of the time. Right now, she is selective and will need continued training from her new family. She is crate trained and house broken. When she first comes out of the kennel she can be anxious but after about five minutes she will calm down. Hailey does not understand cuddling yet; a simple belly rub turns into play time. Her foster family is working on this!Other Animals - Hailey does not like rabbits, squirrels, stray cats or any other small animals. At the moment, Hailey would do best as an only pet until she grows comfortable and learns her manners. She is currently working on her dog manners with her foster parents and a MOGs trainer. Hailey can coexist with other dogs as long as toys are not involved.Children/People - Hailey LOVES new people of all ages and is very warm and welcoming after a controlled meet and greet. She accepted her foster Dad before accepting her foster Mom but seems happy with any human. When people are visiting, she will engage with them unless a ball is involved, then the ball is the most interesting object in the room. She has been introduced to babies, teenagers, and adults and really enjoys everyone. Hailey is a velcro dog and likes to be near her human at all times if they are home. She will follow her humans around the house and does not understand privacy. (Hailey even likes to lay in the bathroom if that is where her humans are!)Medical - Hailey has seasonal skin allergies and a possible minor food allergy. Her foster family would like to retest grain and chicken in the near future.Summary - Hailey NEEDS a home willing to spend actual time with her outside to run off her energy. Her ideal home needs to be active or at least willing to walk her daily and play with her outside. Hailey is smart. Like most young dogs, she can be mischevious (like grabbing a shoe and running) if she doesn’t have toys or active time to stimulate her mind and wear her out. Once she’s had those things, she’s a gem! If you're looking for a gorgeous, goofy, loving German Shepherd who has good energy,Hailey may be your ideal family member! Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.THOR and his brother Loki were found abandoned alongside a rural highway.Temperament/Behavior:Thor is a sweet boy with typical puppy behaviors. He is still scared/cautious of loud noises, sudden unexpected movements, new people and new situations.People:He loves his people but takes a little longer with men, he loves pets and snuggles and toys. He is still learning boundaries and jumps on people when he gets excited. Families with young children would need monitoring as he is a high energy puppy.Training:He will still have accidents if he is not monitored, but if you watch for his signals he does not (we are working on using the bells on the door for notification, but since he is skittish it is a work in progress). He is kennel trained and typically does not have accidents in the kennel. He knows sit, kennel and sit to wait for food. He is a puppy so trying to eat everything outside but is easily redirectable. He is working on recall. He is learning to walk on a leash and making great progress.Pets:He is dog friendly but will need slower introductions for the other dog because he is a puppy and may jump or be too excited. He has not been cat tested.Medical:There are no current medical needsFun Facts:He is incredibly smart. He sleeps in a kennel at night and stays in one during the day with no issues. Thor has a lot of energy and will definitely need an adopter willing to both exercise him and mentallystimulate him through activities.     If you're looking for a gorgeous, young, trainable furballwho will love you forever,Thor may be your ideal family member!
