Story
Kai is 3 years old. He’s an amazing dog that loves a high energy household. A perfect day for him is going on a walk or run and lots of playing catch in the back yard. I’m getting a new job that will have me on the road a lot so sadly, we need to find him a home that can give him the outdoor time he craves!

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Noel is a goofy, beautiful, carefree, energetic and very loving girl who just wants to have fun. She loves playing with the other dogs, going on walks, or just generally doing whatever her foster family is doing. She's going to make someone a fantastic buddy and companion. BACKSTORYNoel came to MOGS after she was seized by animal control for cruelty. She was starved, dehydrated and left outside with no shelter. She is currently is a foster home. TEMPERAMENT / BEHAVIOR Noel is amazing. She was seized for extreme cruelty but despite her suffering she still loves people. She's a sweet little girl who is very soft, friendly and goofy. She wants to greet everyone and will be very vocal about it. She loves being in the same room with her humans and will follow everywhere. She acts as a tripping hazard since she picks the least out of the way spot to lay down, especially in the kitchen. She does tend to sniff the counter and floor for yummies but has never jumped up to grab anything. Will try her best to reach into a high chair to get leftovers but will leave it if told to. Her foster family doesn't leave things towards the edge of counters so she is not given the opportunity to steal anything. She does like to chew on stuffed animals and does not know the difference between her toys and baby's toys so her foster family does their best to just keep non-dog toys off the floor. Like most GSDs Noel is a super shedder, her fur is very thick. TRAININGShe's learning basic manners and doing very well. She is food driven which will help with her training. The first new behavior she had to practice was waiting at baby gates or backyard fences. She has climbed a fence to follow her person on the other side. With a 6 ft fence she will be fine, with a somewhat lower fence, she will need complete supervision in the backyard to avoid escaping. She sometimes jumps baby gates to be closer to her people. She is pretty good at listening and has learned the sit command. She is house broken and crate trained. She does okay on a leash and is currently walked with a combo of the martingale collar and a gentle leader for better control. She can get a bit wild and unruly when other dogs are near since she wants to go say hi and play. Her future family will need to spend the time to exercise her and stimulate her, and finish her training using good canine leadership skills. OTHER ANIMALSNoel gets along with most dogs; she just wants to play. Sometimes she plays too rough for other dogs because she is so excited. She does not seem to understand her size and she is very fast moving. Currently lives with her foster siblings, a 25lb dog and a 12lb chiweenie. Noel does seem to respect the smaller dog's space. Noel would do best with a same size and energy level doggie buddy to play and romp with. She's still got a lot of puppy in her and occasionally doesn’t notice when other dogs tell her they're tired, so you may have to remind her that play time is over. She takes correction easily and is perfectly willing to go inside and let the other dogs rest. Noel has a mild-to-moderate small prey drive and cannot be in a home with cats. PEOPLENoel does well with adults and is very good with kids. She has been very patient with the human toddler in her foster home. When the young one gets a little crazy, she for the most part handles it very well. She has learned the command 'escape' or move away from toddler reach. When she has reached her limit, she will let him know with a nudge or growl but has never shown aggression. Noel is a large, strong and energetic dog who has the potential to be too rough in play and knock a child over, or collide with a child. As with all large dogs, she must be supervised around small children just to be sure things don't get too rough. MEDICAL Up-to-date on all vaccines, has a current rabies tag, is spayed and has been microchipped. She was originally heartworm positive but has been treated and is heartworm free. Noel has a toenail that grows up and over but doesn't appear to cause her any discomfort other than when she has her nails trimmed. At some point prior to coming to MOGS, Noel suffered from a LEFT hind leg femur fracture that did not receive any treatment, so healed slightly misaligned. Because of this, she does sometimes experience discomfort in that leg and requires intermittent pain management with an anti-inflammatory pain reliever. She also receives joint supplement support on a daily basis. Noel's injured leg has been assessed by her regular vet, as well as orthopedic experts at Blue Pearl, and both experts agree this will be a chronic monitoring situation which will need intermittent pain management for life. Even though Noel has medium to high energy, this leg can sometimes significantly limit her activity due to discomfort. At those times, she will do best with short walks around the neighborhood, just not too far as she cannot handle it. Noel has no other known medical issues.   If you're looking for a gorgeous, trainable furballwho will love you forever,NOEL is your girl! Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. If you're looking for a sweet German Shepherd who will love you forever,COLBY may be your ideal family member! BACKSTORYColby was owner-surrendered 'in the field' to Animal Control, as a means of helping his owner avoid animal cruelty charges. Colby was seized, along with 5 pit-bulls from a location that appeared to be involved in dog fighting. All of the dogs were secured by heavy chains around their necks, as well as heavy-duty springs, which prevented them from reaching each other. Their only shelter was barrels cut in half and turned upside down in the mud. When Colby came to MOGS he was starved to the bone and at 61lbs he was drastically underweight. TEMPERAMENT / BEHAVIOR Colby is a love bug. If he knows you he will want your attention and he will bug you until you give it to him. He wants to be a lap dog as well. Colby is a happy boy, he just wants to enjoy his home and all the thing he loves, food, his ball, his Buffalo horns, and hanging with his people. Because he is tentative with new people and dogs, he would not be a good candidate for dog parks, doggy day care, Home Depot visits or camping. TRAININGHe is house trained; crate trained and does not chew on anything he is not supposed to. Colby will need a person that is a strong experienced leader. OTHER ANIMALSColby can be an only dog. He does not play with the resident dogs in his foster home. His idea of playing with them is for all of them to run at full speed up to the back door to come back inside. He tries to avoid confrontation with other dogs, he will get up and walk away. He will not back down if he gets involved but it is only a barking match and he is easily called off. He does take a slow intro to other dogs but he currently lives with a 14-year-old, 8-year-old and 8-month-old, all GSDs. Colby needs a home with no cats, but he has been in a household with a small dog and did very well. PEOPLEHe warms up to women quickly, he takes longer to warm up to men. We do not recommend him going into a household with small children or very hyper dogs as he is easily annoyed. People that get to know him absolutely love him and he remembers the people he meets and greets them with a smile. MEDICAL Up-to-date on all vaccines, has a current rabies tag, is neutered/spayed and has been microchipped. Has no known medical issues. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Background - Hailey is goofy, tail chaser of a young GSD! She is energetic with a high toy drive. She loves balls, mile long walks, and outdoor playtime. Hailey LOVES new people and is very warm and welcoming after a controled meet and greet. This energetic girl came to MOGs from a local shelter after her previous owners no longer wanted her energy. Temperment/Behavioral - Hailey has made tremendous progress in the last three months. Hailey walks on a leash well with an alternative collar. (She is still practicing her manners on a regular leash and collar.) She can walk calmly even with other dogs in the area. She will bark but has not shown agressivness towards other dogs.Hailey still acts like a puppy so she is learning mouthing manners. Potential adopters will need to understand mouthing and continue her education towards a well behaved pup. She does well on basic commands like sit, even when very excited. As with many young GSDs, Hailey has selective hearing. She knows her commands, but chooses when to listen. Unfortuneately, she has proven that she will counter surf if bored. She knows that’s where her treats come from! The good news is that she is treat modivated and trains easily. As mentioned above, Hailey is working on following her commands 100% of the time. Right now, she is selective and will need continued training from her new family. She is crate trained and house broken. When she first comes out of the kennel she can be anxious but after about five minutes she will calm down.Hailey does not understand cuddling yet; a simple belly rub turns into play time. Her foster family is working on this!Other Animals - Hailey does not like rabbits, squirrels, or stray cats. At the moment, Hailey would do best as an only pet until she grows comfortable and learns her manners. She might do well in a temporary crate and rotate situation. Children/People - Hailey loves all people as mentioned above. She accepted her foster Dad before accepting her foster Mom but seems happy with any human. When people are visiting, she will engage with them unless a ball is involved, then the ball is the most interesting object in the room. She has been introduced to babies, teenagers, and adults and really enjoys everyone. Hailey is a velcro dog and likes to be near her human at all times if they are home. She will follow her humans around the house and does not understand privacy. (Hailey even likes to lay in the bathroom if that is where her humans are!)Summary - Hailey NEEDS a home willing to spend actual time with her outside to run off her energy. Her ideal home needs to be active or at least willing to walk her daily. Hailey is smart. Like most young dogs, she can be mischevious (like grabbing a shoe and running) if she doesn’t have toys or active time to stimulate her mind and wear her out. Once she’s had those things, she’s a gem! If you're looking for a gorgeous, goofy, loving German Shepherd who has good energy,Hailey may be your ideal family member! Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.BEAR is a handsome black-and-silver German Shepherd with a thick plush coat and a debonair dash of gray around his muzzle -- and he's looking for a family to love, relax with, and enjoy life with! (We know some of the photos make him look black & tan, but that's just the lighting in the room.)BACKGROUNDHi family surrendered him to a shelter, saying it was because of their health.  However, Bear was clearly not well cared for and we suspect the real reason may be Bear's health.  He was very skinny, his coat was in bad shape, he had a major ear infection and was holding his ear down, constantly shaking his head and scratching his ear.  He also iteched all over and had a small patch of missing fur.  A skin scrape was negative for mange, so he was for a yeast infection and recovered well.  TEMPERAMENT / TRAININGBear is a smart boy who will require an experienced handler, preferably one familiar with strong-willed/dominant GSDs. He is even-tempered and very friendly but will still occasionally (in the right situation/circumstance) let you know that he disagrees with your request. He waits his turn patiently to go outside or inside without being pushy. He has proven that he would love to be a “one person” dog if allowed as he has shown a preferance to be a momma's boy. That’s not to say that he doesn’t grow attached to anybody else, as he’s so happy to see any of his foster family when they come into the house that he literally hops like a kangaroo with tail swinging mightily. When there is petting being done, he’s right in the middle of it, and will regularly appear under your arm to check in and get some pets and scratches. Toy selection absolutely has to be monitored as Bear will destroy soft toys and swallow them in short order if not supervised. Hard chew toys too large to fit inside his mouth are best for him. He will drop and walk away from just about anything that he has, or is interested in (including chew toys), with “drop it”. He will fetch somewhat as long as he’s by himself but if another dog is around he will drop his toy before returning and walk away. He still guards food but will come off of it with “out” and will wait to go to the food. Bear is VERY food motivated, so kibble works for rewards. His foster family has been working with Bear extensivly and his toy guarding is almost gone now. If he’s working on a chew toy and his foster dad approached, he will give a token grumble and allow his foster to sit with him while he chews, and will accept petting. He absolutely loves going on walks and has excellent leash manners. When Bear came to MOGS he had some issues with marking behavior which appears to have actually been related to age/bladder inelasticity. Watching carefully, his elimination pattern is reminiscent of an old man with prostate issues – frequent urgency and repeated small void volume. His fosters are working on stretching out the times, but for now he needs to be given the opportunity to go out at least every two hours if uncrated. He will easily go 8 hours if crated (he absolutely LOVES his crate and happily runs there and waits when asked) as he sleeps the entire time. He hangs out in his kennel overnight and when his family is out of the house.   PEOPLEBear can be introduced to new people at home, under supervision.  Protectiveness at home has softened but he’s still on alert with strangers.  Bear will often become excited when new guests visit or there is high activity in the house. He is practicing good manners and works with his fosters and trainers to behave calmly. He has learned a number of techniques to help him! Once calm, allowing sniffing and a couple of head pats, he’ll be anybody’s friend.  Once introduced and he realizes you’ll pet him, he will come to you for attention.OTHER ANIMALSBear is dog selective. He is good with some dogs and is normally fairly passive but will occationally nip other dogs' tails if everyone gets excited and he gets keyed up. Usually, he just watches the other dogs play while standing next to his foster to get scratches. Prey drive has tempered quite a bit and is easily manageable with occasional reinforcement and supvervision. It is recommended that he have full attention and continued training. Bear still wants to chase his foster sibling cat that runs but has little interest in the two that simply sit and look at him.ENERGY LEVELModerate, a good middle-aged energy.  He’s happy to walk for as long as you want to walk him and doesn’t seem to get tired, but will go off to his kennel or to one of his “places” on his own and nap for hours, multiple times during the day.  He isn’t a big proponent of running, and will only do so in short bursts and only a few times before calling it quits.HEALTHUp-to-date on all vaccines, has a current rabies tag, is neutered/spayed and has been microchipped. Both ear infections are clear, all hair loss regrown with a long, silky coat.  There is a clear collar scar now that the hair is normal.  Vet says very healthy, but he will need regular brushing and washing with medicated shampoo to keep his yeast infections at bay.  Tolerates brushing well, but for extended brushing and bathing he requires a muzzle.  Does not mind having ears rubbed and preferes to have his nails trimmed farrier style.  If you're looking for a stunning and potentially-cuddly German Shepherd,BEAR could be your new best bud! BEAR's ADOPTION FEE:   $350 This fee covers only part of what we spend to vet, board and rehab the dogs we save. On average we spend over $450 on each dog. Story
Henrietta is a friendly dog and will be your best friend especially is treats are involved. She walks so regal on the leash and being treat motivated, learning new things should be a breeze. She attends playgroups but needs any potential dogs prior to going home. Henrietta prefers the company of male dogs. On her Dog Day Out from the shelter they reported that she had a really nice time riding in the car, walking around a lake and enjoying a pup cup from Scooters. She is so sweet, loves treats and can do all basic commands. No accidents in the house or car! She also did great with our 9 month old baby.Come meet Henrietta today!KC Pet Project provides microchip, spay/neuter, up-to-date on vaccines.

Story
We show our dogs by appointment only upon receipt of our online application which can be found at kcpaws.org.  If you are reading this, we are still accepting applications.  link to application :  https://form.jotform.com/230296113596155 Daya was found curled up on a porch of an abandoned house in the freezing cold in February.  Her owners never came for her.  She is incredibly sweet and very friendly and is a beautiful blue reverse brindle color that pictures just don't do justice to. Daya loves to go for walks and enjoys spending time with volunteers. She also loves to go for car rides and always appreciates a good Pupachino.  Daya would love a home with a couch to cuddle on , and a yard to play fetch in with her human. She is an active dog who loves to explore and would even make an excellent jogging buddy. She can be a little nervous when she first meets new people but once she has a few minutes to settle in, she is extremely affectionate and sweet. The KC PAWS staff says that Daya is so deserving of a loving home. She is goofy and just wants to soak up all the attention she can all of the time. She is a volunteer favorite for walks because she is very active and is not much of a puller on her leash.  If you think Daya might be the right fit for you, your next step would be to complete our online application which can be found at kcpaws.org  April 18, 2024, 1:36 pm
