Story
We’ve had Lawrence since he was a puppy in Oct 2020. He’s a good dog. Very protective of his home and family. Doesn’t bite or anything, but will bark when people come up to the house. Our house just doesn’t have the yard I think he deserves and we work multiple jobs and have two young kids. He would be better with a big yard and someone who can walk him regularly. No special needs, allergies or injuries to him.

Story
Pony Girl (so named for the Stay Golden Ponyboy line from The Outsiders) has had a very tough life so far. When you look at her eyes in the photos, cant you just see it? This girl has been thru hell, and may never fully regain her coatbut doesnt she deserve love? A home? We were told this girl was left locked in a crate in a basement for days on end. Her skin got worse and worse due to this neglect and then the lady who was doing this to her was kicked out and the senior guy who owned the home brought her upstairs into his home, but he never took her to the vet either. He was in poor health and had multiple strokes but was trying to take care of the dog. He ended up going to a nursing home and the dog was left home alone. He had a doggy door set up so she could go in and out. Neighbors stopped by to feed her and then the landlord reached out for help. Pony Girl spent several weeks at our vet getting some much needed medical attention. Then she went to a boarding place to continue with medicate baths and treatment. We were lucky enough to find her a foster home and learn a bit more about Pony Girl. Unsurprisingly she has some separation anxiety and crate issues to work thru. Her ideal home has someone who is home predominantly and has another dog. Pony Girl loves other dogs and LOVES people. When you are home shes chill and wants affection. Shes housebroken and leash trained. Now for the nitty gritty on her skin issue. The damage was long term and untreated for so long it MAY have permanently affected her. She may NEVER have a full coat of hair again. Right now, shes getting medicated baths 2 times a week and she does good for her baths. Shes also on medication to help prevent itching and clear up the infection. She will be going in for another recheck soon and we will see what they recommend for continuing care. PonyGirl could totally use sponsors for her care. Its $510 a month between her boarding ($360) and her medications. We are a 501c3 non profit, so donations are tax deductible. At Autumn Acres Animal Rescue we believe each individual animal matters. We take in special cases some of which will stay with us as a sanctuary dog.If the animal is listed as a Socially Imperfect Dog this means they have special needs and special requirements for potential adopters. If the animal is listed as a Socially Imperfect RESIDENT this animal is NOT available for adoption and is one of our sanctuary residents. We list them on our sites because they still matter and they still need donations to help with their long term care.Check out our website for more information: http://www.autumnacres.org

Story
Updated Bio as of June 2023: Jupiter was originally found as a lost pup with her 2 brothers in a corn field during winter. She nearly froze to death, she was so cold she couldn't run/move quickly and people were able to catch her. They were all very thin and had to fight to survive with the coyotes out there. Jupiter is learning to trust humans and will be a happy dog around me but still skittish over touch. With new people she will take time to warm up for sure. Jupiter's adoption fee is sponsored. She is ok with other dogs but initially acts like she's aggressive. It's the survival mode in her. Once she knows they aren't going to hurt her she warms up. She will need to be fed separately from other animals. SHERLOCK'S ADOPTION FEE:   $150 This fee covers only part of what we spend to vet, board and rehab the dogs we save. On average we spend over $450 on each dog. We made a decision to keep our adoption fee at the 2005 level even though vet prices have doubled and tripled since then. We are constantly fundraising to cover the deficit. At minimum, your adoption fee includes the dog's spay/neuter, heartworm test, heartworm treatment if needed, rabies shot, distemper/parvo shot, bordatella shot, deworming, monthly heartworm and flea preventives, and microchip. In many cases it also includes surgery and various types of vet treatment for standard issues such as hot spots, ear infections and so on. INTERESTED IN ADOPTING SHERLOCK? We're picky about our adopters.  Are you sure you're up to having a GSD?  They're not for everyone.  They take a lot of time, effort, training.  They shed year round.  They're big.  They scare lots of people.  They 'mouth' and herd.  They're usually strong-willed and stubborn.  You have to have references and a home visit.  If you're not willing or able to deal with any of this, please don't waste your time or ours applying.   Will the dog be an inside family pet? We do not adopt to outdoor-only homes. All dogs must be indoor dogs. Do you leave your dog outdoors when you're not home?   We do not adopt to homes that leave their animals outside when they're gone.  You must put your dogs indoors when you're gone.  A 3 yr old adopted MOGS dog died when the owners went to run errands, left her outdoors, the gate was somehow opened, and she was hit by a car.  Tragic and 100% preventable. Even privacy fences get broken into.  Gates are opened.  Thieves steal dogs. Never leave your dog outdoors when you're not home!! What's your plan for unexpected events and major changes?  New baby? Divorce?  Moving?   How you will provide for your dog if your family breaks up?  Will you make a lifetime commitment?  It's your responsibility to keep your dog safe, loved and cared for FOR LIFE.  Do you understand we expect you to keep that lifetime commitment?  It's YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to stick by your family member -- no matter what. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Meet Katie – A Survivor Who’s Ready for Her Forever Home! Katie is a stunning 4-year-old German Shepherd (65 lbs) with a sleek black-and-silver coat and the gentlest heart. She has been waiting over 3 years for her forever family, and it’s time this beautiful girl finally gets the home she deserves. Katie’s life didn’t start out easy. She was rescued from a hoarding situation where 12 starving dogs were left to fight over a single bag of food tossed in once a day. As the youngest, smallest, and most submissive, Katie was attacked when she tried to eat. She became skin-and-bones, carrying scars on her side and ear, and survived by eating rocks and scraps. She likely had a litter of puppies before she was even a year old. But despite everything, Katie’s spirit shines. She is gentle, forgiving, and absolutely LOVES people—especially kids. Her favorite game is fetch, and she’s so clever she’ll roll the ball back to you when she wants another throw. Watching her play and interact is pure joy—she makes everyone around her smile. Katie has been professionally trained and is a dream companion: she walks politely on leash, rides calmly in the car, behaves wonderfully at the vet, loves her kennel, and hardly ever barks. She is affectionate, loyal, and so eager to love her people. Because of her past, Katie prefers to be the only dog in the home, where she can finally feel safe and cherished. She has already shown she can live alongside another dog with careful management(a strict kennel rotations), but her perfect forever family will let her shine on her own.Katie is:• 4 years old, 65 lbs, female• Black/silver color, stunning girl• Loving, playful, and affectionate• Amazing with kids and people of all ages• LOVE playing fetch, will roll a ball to you• Fully trained by professionals and easy to handle• Great at car rider(she loves it)• Good at vet and a glooming• A true survivor with a heart full of love• MUST be the only dog in the home• Due to high prey drive, no catKatie has waited far too long for her happily ever after. Could you be the one to give thisresilient, beautiful girl the love and safety she’s been waiting for?   KATIE'S ADOPTION FEE:   $350 This fee covers only part of what we spend to vet, board and rehab the dogs we save. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.SALVY is one of six siblings from a litter that was severely neglected and on the edge of dying when transferred to MOGS by their breeder. All of the puppies were significantly underweight, covered in fleas, bellies were bloated with worms and they all had pneumonia. Salvy has been successfully treated for all of the above, and is now healthy and on his way to getting back on developmental track with his size and weight, but is still undersized for his age. Salvy is a typical GSD puppy - smart, sweet and cuddly, but also curious and adventurous. He loves allllllll the toys, gets along well with the other dogs and the cat in his foster home, and is working on potty-training.  If you're looking for a handsome, young, trainable German Shepherd who will love you forever,Salvy may be your ideal family member!
