Story
When I first found him, he was severely malnourished. After caring for him for over a month, it became clear that he had likely been a house dog who was abandoned. I took him home, gave him a bath, fed him, and cared for him alongside my two other dogs. He adjusted incredibly well. He is fully comfortable going to the bathroom outside, and he also learned to use puppy pads indoors just like my other dogs, so he’s familiar with both. He also learned to sit and patiently wait for his command before eating. He’s such a sweet, smart boy and has made amazing progress.

Story
Nala is a super sweet, active girl. She is about 3 years old. I rescued her in January of 2024. She has a bunch of energy, loves to run in the backyard, play fetch, snuggle. I unfortunately am not home enough and feel horrible for her not getting the exercise & attention she needs.

Story
Bambi - GSD/Carolina - Male - 3 yrs - www.twyla.org If you'd like to know more about this dog please visit our website at www.Twyla.org Meet Bambi: this GORGEOUS Shepherd / Carolina Dog mix (we think), came into our program as a medical intake - he had come to the Humble city shelter in horribly skinny condition (24 lbs), only to promptly suffer seizures and being taken to a Vet. We took over his care from there - he was transferred to the ER where doctors stabilized him and began looking for causes. Bambi has Glycogen Storage disease - a rare metabolic disorder that prevents him from regulating his blood sugar at normal rate, causing it to drop quicker than normal, triggering seizures. This means that he has to eat in very regular intervals and is on seizure medication. Despite all this, Bambi has grown into a big beautiful, gentle and sweet dog, with a full soft coat of fur and eyes that are very efficient at begging for attention. And treats. Bambi loves to follow his people all over the house, he gets along well with the other dogs in the house and he loves to eat. He walks pretty well on leash, is good in a crate and rides well in the car. He is happiest on the Sofa next to his person, or eating his meals. Bambi is a special boy who has come such a long way and he is looking for a very special home: Glycogen Storage Disease is manageable but has to carefully monitored and meal times and medication times require a pretty strict adherence to the timelines - skipped meals can cause major issues.  Bambi is also what we call a "Goat", he eats everything, and we mean everything. Eatable or not, he does not discriminate, so his environment has to be carefully decluttered, casual discarded hair scrunchies or snack wrappers will go down the hatch in the blink of an eye and may cause gastrointestinal issues at best or a blockage at worst. Surgery for a dog with his disease is tricky as fasting is required, but fasting is not one the the things he can do. Bambi is looking for a home where someone is home a lot, is able and willing to adhere to his meal and medication schedule and can make sure he doesn't eat inappropriate things. He can be an only dog or have other dogs in the household, he doesn't really care. He has not been tested with cats. He can (and currently does) live with older kids that know to keep front doors closed, food and non food items out of his reach. ***Please note: All dogs are fostered in private homes of volunteers, so to meet a dog please fill out an Adoption Application on our website (http://www.twyla.org/adopt/our-adoption-process) so we may setup a private meetup with the dog or coordinate for an Introduction at the next general Adoption Meet and Greet (as listed on our website: (http://www.twyla.org/upcoming-events), as not all dogs attend all Meet and Greets***

Story
Rory - GSD/BC Mix - Female - 1 year - www.twyla.org If you'd like to know more about this dog please visit our website at www.Twyla.org Meet the Gilmore Girls! "We were found in an abandoned trailer in very unsafe conditions. Once rescued by our foster family, we started opening our eyes to see this beautiful world around May 12th, and boy are we HAPPY TO BE HERE! Our Mom - who has already found her permanent place once we find ours - is a gorgeous Shepherd mix and very patient with us and our apparently very sharp teeth. As my name suggests, I’m Yale-worthy smart. 🧠 Despite being a runt (closely tied with Sookie), I was the first to open my eyes and the first to escape the baby pen. My foster parents put in a lot of work to keep me safe! Sookie and I probably have a different dad than our litter mates, but Mama won’t spill. She said not until we’re adults, but something tells me she doesn’t even know who our dad is. I love to spill my food as soon as it’s served. Don’t worry— I still eat it so you don’t have to clean it up! I’m a huge lover. When I was a tiny baby I would get cold after bath time so my foster mom would swaddle me in a bath towel and rock me until I stopped shivering. When I was fresh into the world my foster mom actually had to plug me in to eat first because my bigger siblings would knock me off Mama’s nipples! Don’t be fooled by my backstory— my legs are growing an inch a day so I will probably end up being pretty big and strong!" Rory is looking for a home with other dogs to help mentor her and play with her. Older kids may be OK in a home with a large-breed experienced handler as these pups grow by leaps and bounds and don't know their size and strength yet.
