Story
Bear is a 2 year old neutered male Great Dane mix who is underweight at just about 100lbs. Bear is sweet, dog friendly with the right match and would be ok with older children he can’t topple over on accident. He has started his heart worm treatment and for being as big as he is, he doesn’t take advantage to pull on a leash. Bear is incredibly smart and loves snacks, therefore should be a good candidate to continue with obedience training.

Story
Banjo was just a tiny little fella when his litter was dropped off to one of our dedicated fosters. It was quickly clear that these puppies were overrun with worms and unfortunately Banjo was the only one to survive.. Banjo is about 90% blind and has epilepsy (which is well managed) so he needs a special family that will understand his medical needs and be a calm leader when he experiences seizures. He has come a long way and we know that there is a family out there that can see passed his special needs and love him all the same. He does require medication for his seizures twice a day at meal times. Banjo is good with everyone! Including kids. He also loves being with other dogs and is neutral toward cats in his foster home. He is still very young so he does need to be crated when left alone but he has a great foundation for crating thanks to his foster. Banjo rides well in the car and is excellent for bath time. He LOVES food and thinks toys are less exciting. But dont worry his favorite games involve interacting with his people. Banjo is currently in PA but he can be transported to an approved adopter. This special boy needs a special family!

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Please contact BRu for more information about this pet. Thanks for your interest in a pet from A.R.F.! If you see a pet here, they are still available for adoption and you should apply through our adoption application on our website at  https://www.arf-il.org/adopt/application/   Indigo is a 2 year old female Great Dane who weighs in at 86 pounds. This dog's adoption fee is $500. If you are still interested, please read more below. Indigo (Indy) is an extremely affectionate dog and is adamant about seeking pets and hugs from her foster mom. Indy is a little hesitant upon first meeting someone but she warms up quickly, especially with treats, and likes to lean on the person for affection.  Indy is an energetic dog who gets the zoomies and "bounces" the minute she's let outside. She isn't aware of her size and strength when playing, therefore a family with older children would be recommended. Although Indy has been diagnosed with mild degenerative joint disease in her right hip it doesn't seem to slow her down. Her foster mom jokes that Indy has 2 speeds: full throttle and sleep mode. Indy would do well with an active family to help her burn off some of her energy. Indy has been treated for heartworm and will have no lasting negative health effects from it. She is back to her zoomies and loving life! Indy is extremely food motivated which should make basic training easy, however she shows some fearfulness complying with training commands. She will need a family with patience to continue her training. She has learned what "nose off the counter/table" means and complies well.  Indy is potty trained and lets her foster mom know when she needs to go out by jingling the bells hanging on the back doorknob. She is crated when her foster mom goes to work but is left out during the night. She is a really good girl! Indigo is microchipped, up to date on all vaccinations, housebroken, and spayed.  This dog's family will be required to complete a basic obedience course of their choosing.  A meeting will not be scheduled until you have an approved application, so if you are interested in adopting this dog, fill out an Online Application today!  Once your application has been approved, an ARF volunteer will contact you to arrange a meeting.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.   Thank you for considering a rescue pet from A.R.F.-Animal Rescue Foundation! We are  based in Wheaton, IL and conduct adoption events in the DuPage County area. If you are interested in adopting one of our pets, please submit an adoption application at https://www.arf-il.org/adopt/application/  Adoption appointments are scheduled based on the order of applications received, so submit your application early! Submitting an application does not commit you to any animal but does get you a head start with the adoption approval process. Due to a high volume of applications, we are often unable to respond to questions or schedule meetings until your application has been approved. More information about our adoption process can be found on our website here: https://www.arf-il.org/adopt/ As an all-volunteer, foster home-based organization, A.R.F. Animal Rescue Foundation does not have a facility where applicants can visit our animals. Please visit https://www.arf-il.org/events/ for a list of our upcoming adoption events.  Thank you for choosing to adopt, not shop! September 13, 2026, 9:57 pm

Story
Visit IBR's Facebook Page to see Whitley and her puppies in action! UPDATE: My sweet Viggo aka "We GO with Viggo", is 11 weeks old and close to 25lbs. He is the darkest of the litter and the last to be born. He has really come into his own as we've started to go outside. He loves to play with his siblings, the other dogs and he loves to explore the yard. While the daddy is a Great Dane, the puppies are going to have softer features like their momma and Viggo is so handsome with the darker fur and smokey facial features. They all have velvety soft fur and the cutest wrinkles on their faces. All of the puppies figured out litter box training in their nursery- but are starting to prefer to go outside to potty. I think they will house train in a few weeks. We are also doing a bit of cage training. I want my special puppies to find loving homes in the Chicago suburbs with safe fenced in yards. It would be fun if they could do dog sports like Agility as they really are going to be amazing athletes like their momma. Viggo will need a confident playful dog in his new forever home as he needs a buddy. On May 8th, I was notified about an English Setter that was in an over-crowded shelter in Kentucky and she was very pregnant. Luckily we got Whitley to town a few days later, and we got her to our vet and settled into foster care. She delivered the Trend Setter litter on May 17th. We were able to chat with her previous owner and suspected that the daddy might be the neighbor's Great Dane and DNA did confirm the puppies are half Dane and half Setter. It has been a gratifying experience helping mamma Whitley deliver her puppies and making sure she gets the best nutrition and care while she nurses her big beautiful puppies. They have been handled everyday, loved on, kissed all over and now they are playing with each other which is so fun to see. I can only imagine what magnificent dogs they will grow up to be, but they will be high energy like mom and will absolutely need homes with safe fenced in yards. While Whitley is a pretty 45lb tricolor and white Setter, daddy's genetics are more dominant and the puppies look like little Danes. HOWEVER, I believe they will have delicate features like their mamma and they are already showing some very sweet Setter traits including being affectionate, and giving kisses. They also LOVE to be loved on, and especially love to be held and cuddled. These little puppies are just pure joy- so incredibly special! I am amazed how fast they are growing and can only imagine how big they will be as adults. We are only offering Foster to Adopt in the Chicago area as the puppies will need blood work when they are 8 months old and because they are mixed with a larger breed, we want to let them grow with the benefits of their hormones to help them grow properly and to spay or neuter after a year. They will be available to move to their new homes after their exam and 1st vaccination around the 19th of July.
