Meet Gunner!
Gunner is a big, lovable guy who has been settling back into foster life after being returned due to his previous owner moving. With a little time and consistency, he’s already made great progress and continues to show just how special he is.
At night, Gunner does wonderfully in his crate — he goes in without hesitation and sleeps soundly through the night (fair warning: he’s an early bird and ready to start the day bright and early!). During the day, he’s a certified couch connoisseur. He’s very particular about his spot and firmly believes every lounging session requires a pillow. If you happen to be in his chosen seat, he’ll politely (and vocally) let you know.
Gunner enjoys watching the world go by from the window and loves burning off energy outside. He’s an explorer at heart and is always curious about what’s going on around him. He can be affectionate to a fault — he likes to paw at you and climb into your lap, occasionally forgetting just how big he really is.
Mouthing has been a work in progress, and while redirection can be challenging at times, he’s improving with patience and consistency. Gunner has done well meeting new people and has even met a much smaller dog (he wanted to play; the other dog… not so much ). He previously lived with a dog brother and is likely to enjoy having a canine companion. A playdate with another Great Dane is on the calendar, and we’re hopeful he’ll make a new friend!
Gunner would thrive in a home with an experienced giant breed owner, ideally someone familiar with Dane behavior and training, older children, as his jumping and mouthing could be overwhelming for little ones, a fenced yard or an adopter committed to providing daily exercise and outdoor time, and another dog sibling - especially one who enjoys play time.
With structure, exercise, and someone who appreciates a big dog with an even bigger personality, Gunner will make a loyal, entertaining, and affectionate companion. If you love vocal commentary, couch cuddles, and classic Dane antics, Gunner might just be your perfect match
