Meet Captain
Captain — a gentle giant with an old soul who is discovering what it means to be loved.
Captain hasn't always had an easy life, but every day in foster care he shows just how resilient and kind he truly is. This big boy approaches life at his own pace. He walks slowly, explores slowly, and takes his time learning to trust. Watching Captain grow more confident has been one of the most rewarding parts of his journey.
If Captain had a superpower, it would be his nose. He seems convinced every blade of grass and every new scent deserves a thorough investigation. Whether he's exploring the yard or enjoying a leisurely walk, Captain is happiest when he has time to stop and smell absolutely everything. His favorite place in the world is outside, especially if he can relax in the grass, roll around (in slow motion, of course), and enjoy the fresh air.
As Captain has settled into foster care, his sweet personality has blossomed. He now seeks out affection, leans into his people for pets, and happily comes over for kisses without flinching when hands reach toward him. These may seem like small moments, but for Captain they represent enormous milestones in learning that people can be trusted.
Captain is potty trained, crate trained, walks beautifully on a loose leash, rides well in the car, and has earned the freedom to roam the house because of his excellent manners. He is also extremely dog friendly. He lives peacefully with another adult giant breed and two energetic foster puppies, patiently teaching the youngsters when they've become just a little too enthusiastic. His foster family believes another confident, friendly dog would help Captain continue building confidence in his forever home.
We want to be honest that Captain can still be apprehensive in new situations. When he's nervous, he becomes quite the drooler—but his foster family simply keeps a towel nearby and carries on. He also has one adorable quirk: Captain prefers eating his meals from a baking sheet instead of a bowl.
Captain is looking for a patient adopter who understands that trust is earned over time. He doesn't ask for much—just kindness, consistency, and a family willing to let him continue growing into the confident dog he's becoming.
In return, you'll gain one of the gentlest souls you'll ever meet. Captain is proof that even dogs who have had a difficult start can learn to love deeply. If you're searching for a calm, loyal companion with a heart every bit as big as his 191-pound frame, Captain is waiting to meet you.
Please note: Captain is not neutered based on the recommendation of his veterinarian. Given his age, size, and overall health, it was determined that leaving him intact is in his best medical interest at this time.
