Raya is a beautiful female Great Pyrenees who was found running loose in Richmond, CA. Raya was very scared and timid when she first came to Jelly's and wouldn't leave her kennel or take treats from staff and volunteers. She has made a lot of progress and now happily comes out of her kennel and enjoys going to the yard where she plays with stuffed animals and munches on treats. Raya is a true example of her breed. She let's you know if a stranger walks nearby and is a great protector. Raya is NOT for a first time dog owner. She needs extra time meeting new people or being in new environments, so would do best in a quiet, all adult peaceful, predictable home with no other animals. Story

Joey came from the Kern Center in Bakersfield. He was born there, we adopted him at 4 months straight from the shelter. He is now 9 1/2 months old. He had jumped off a table he jumped on and hurt his leg, he had surgery on his back leg and now he is completely recovered. He has grown a lot since we adopted him. We do not have a current weight but expect somewhere between 60-70 pounds. He got along with our other 3 dogs but as Joey grew, that changed. Our other 3 dogs are seniors and they just cannot tolerate his size and energy. We have had him with a trainer so he knows, come, stay, sit and down. He has great recall and frequently goes to Pt Isabel off leash, plays with all dogs. He has a lot of energy, and is big. He would be best with someone young, strong, young family preferably teenagers, he is crate trained. He needs exercise and loves to play ball. He is very affectionate, great dog. Loves water too. He is very gentle and affectionate and enjoys cuddling, sleeping near his person, and being part of a calm daily routine. When he meets new people, he can get excited and likes to “hug” as a way of saying hello. He does well on walks, transitions calmly on leash, and responds well to structure and guidance. Appa enjoys companionship, consistency, and having a space where he feels secure. Appa would thrive best as the only pet, or in a home without small dogs or cats. He is not dog-reactive on walks or outside the home, but he can become territorial with other animals in his personal space. He is a wonderful dog who deserves a home that matches his needs, ideally with experienced owners, older children or teens, and no small animals. Gracie is a love... a BIG love! Though she is 66 pounds and should be at least 70, so she is not a huge Pyr at all. She sports a fairly manageable single coat with some undercoat but not a ton of extra fur like a big, classic Pyr, likely she could be a mix. Gracie had entropia surgery on one eye and that is mostly all healed up. She walks well on leash and is dog friendly, but can guard her food a bit with humans perhaps a bit and dogs, she was very thin, and needs a "Bottomless bowl for awhile which should help her with food anxiety, but this is why we have added the kids over 10 years attribute. Gracie is a very lovely girl deserving of a home with people to love, who understand Pyrs, and other critters too.....
