When HART first rescued Newton, this gorgeous boy was very shy. Since being in a loving foster home, he has shown significant improvement! He is less shy when meeting new people, and after proper introduction, he seeks out chin scratches and belly rubs. Newton has enjoyed running in the backyard, chasing a ball, and he will certainly need a secure, fenced yard to safely explore and get his zoomies. Newton is house trained, sleeps well at night in his kennel, does not have separation anxiety, occasionally barks but settles down, takes treats gently, and knows basic commands to include "sit", "stay", "wait" and knows to wait for "yes" and "OK" before proceeding. He walks well on a leash particularly in the neighborhood and on trails but needs additional training to prevent occasional pulling. He sheds his gorgeous coat once a year and fortunately loves to be brushed with a wire brush to keep it under control. He gets along well with other dogs after a proper introduction and would benefit from having another confident dog in the home. Newton is not at all aggressive and responds to scary or new situations by backing away so he can get comfortable on his own terms. As he continues to overcome his shyness, he has shown that he is eager to explore, have new experiences, and meet new people. Newton is looking for a family that will continue with his training and socialization to ensure he will reach his potential. Inquire about meeting Newton because it will be love at first sight! Axel is an amazing pet who is sweet and lovable. He was adopted by a family member 5 years ago. The family member has fallen on hard times and is making the painful decision to put Axel up for adoption. Axel was raised with his Pittie mix brother Moo, so gets along well with other dogs, however he may enjoy being an only pet. He also is fine with children, but older children may be a better fit. He enjoys multiple long walks during the day and is a big cuddler.

Meet the W litter! This adorable litter of five Great Pyrenees mixes and their adopted Australian Shepherd mix brother are ready to find their forever families! These fluffy pups caught their freedom ride from Mississippi to Virginia at just 3 weeks old and have been growing up in a loving foster home ever since. Their mama, What Dreams Are Made Of, is an incredibly sweet and gentle girl, and she has done a wonderful job raising her babies - including little Weather for Tennis, an orphaned puppy she lovingly adopted when he was just a few days old. He may have joined the family a little differently, but he fits right in with his brothers and sisters and certainly doesn't know the difference! At six weeks old, these pups are busy discovering the world around them and learning all the important skills that will help them become wonderful family companions. They're currently working on potty training and learning how to walk on leashes, and their fosters will soon be incorporating the crate into their nighttime routine. They've been raised alongside resident dogs and cats and have done wonderfully with everyone. They've also met neighborhood kids and have been incredibly gentle with them. These pups are sweet, social and affectionate, and we think they'll make wonderful family pets.Their Pyrenees heritage means these babies are expected to grow into large dogs likely 65+ pounds and their fosters have a strong preference for homes with fenced yards where they can safely enjoy one of their favorite things: being outside! They love exploring, roaming and following their mama and foster siblings around the yard. While not having another dog in the home isn't necessarily a deal breaker, these pups absolutely love to be around the resident dogs and their mama and have recently started initiating play with them. Their foster family thinks having a friendly, confident canine companion could be especially helpful as they grow, giving them a good example to follow as they learn the ropes and work to become the best versions of themselves. Experience with Great Pyrenees or other large guardian breeds is also a big plus. Come adoption day, these babies will have spent the first two months of their lives surrounded by love, and their foster family can't wait to watch them begin the next chapter of their lives with families who will love them just as much!Wendy the Good Little Witch is a gentle little girl with the sweetest disposition. She's one of the quieter pups in the litter and tends to take a moment to observe before deciding she's ready to jump into the chaos. Once she's comfortable, though, her affectionate personality comes shining through! Wendy absolutely loves her people and is always seeking out a lap for cuddles. She's also a little smaller than her siblings and may be on the smaller side of a Pyrenees/Husky mix adult. With her gentle, even-tempered nature, Wendy would be a wonderful companion for a family looking for a more laid-back puppy who still enjoys plenty of adventures and playtime. Adoption Day: TBD Some pups may stick around until 11:00 AM for the public event-check our Facebook page closer to the date to see if this pup will be attending the extra fun! ##2813621##
