Story
Bennet is a 2 month old Labrador Retriever mix who weighs about 15 pounds. Her story starts the way too many puppies’ stories do in California, with a backyard breeder trying to make money. When the puppies did not sell, a post went up on Facebook and Nextdoor advertising “10 free puppies” and setting up a parking lot meetup in Downey. They had no shots or vetting. By the time a Good Samaritan arrived, people had already taken the smallest, lightest colored puppies. Left behind were three larger black female puppies. The man said he was helping a friend and that if someone did not take the last three, he would leave them in the parking lot. Thankfully those three girls are now safe at Shelter Hope. We got Bennet and her sisters fixed, vaccinated, and microchipped, and they are thriving in foster care. Bennet is the smallest of the sisters and the shyest of the group, but she is incredibly sweet. She may take a moment to warm up, but once she does she is loving, gentle, and very cuddly. She enjoys playing with her sisters and exploring the backyard, then happily settling in for snuggles. She is still a baby and currently teething, so she loves chewing on her toys. Her foster tells us she is kennel trained too. She is also friendly with other dogs and does well with kids. Bennet will thrive in a home that gives her a little patience as she builds confidence and grows into the wonderful companion she is meant to be! ---- Looking to Adopt? Submit a Rescue Questionnaire! Please be thorough in your answers. Step 1) Application Step 2) Phone Interview Step 3) Appointment Shelter Hope is operating by appointment only. Be ready to adopt: If selected, our rescue counselor will contact you to schedule a phone interview. Please monitor your email and spam folder for our message. Adoptions can happen quickly so be prepared for our call, only apply for dogs that every family member in the home wants, and wait to apply until you return from your vacation. More on our process: Due to high demand, especially for popular dogs, not all applicants will be contacted. Moreover, we may not reach out if we have already approved a family to adopt. The process can take several days. Thank you for your patience!

She has a sweet, happy personality and loves being part of whatever is going on. She enjoys running around, playing with her sisters, and exploring the backyard, but she is just as happy settling down for attention and cuddles. Like any young puppy, Bronte is still very much a baby and is currently teething, so she loves chewing on her toys. She is playful, loving, and incredibly sweet. Bronte is friendly with everyone she meets and does great with kids and other dogs. She is also very food motivated and her foster tells us she seems kennel trained too.
