Story
Meet Duncan! Duncan’s journey is nothing short of inspiring. When we saw him on social media listed for euthanasia due to severe skin issues, dental disease, and his age, we knew we couldn’t let that be the end of his story. We stepped in and brought him to CARES, where our team quickly realized he needed specialized dermatology care. At MASH, Dr. Ganz performed a full exam and biopsies, fearing possible autoimmune disease or skin lymphoma. Thankfully, the results came back negative for cancer and autoimmune disease — just chronic inflammation! With Atopica and medicated baths, Duncan’s skin is healing beautifully. It may never be perfect, but he’s feeling so much better and thriving every day! Duncan is a 9-year-old, 45-pound Lab mix with a heart as big as his smile — and yes, he really does smile! He’s sweet, loving, and full of playful energy. He listens well, aims to please, and adores being around people. Duncan shines as a family dog — gentle and patient with kids, loyal to his people, and always ready for fun. He loves chasing balls, carrying toys, and resting his head (or whole body!) right in your lap. If you’re looking for a joyful, devoted companion who will fill your home with love and laughter, Duncan is your guy!

Story
Meet Stella: A Sweet Soul Searching for Her Forever Home! Stella is an 8-year-young Labrador mix with a heart full of love and a spirit that shines! She adores people and enjoys playing with bigger dogs, making her a wonderful companion for an adult-only home where she can be the spoiled queen she deserves to be. This resilient girl was found on the streets after a kind-hearted Good Samaritan feared she had been hit by a car. Thankfully, she hadn’t—but she still needed a hero. That’s when Hope For Paws stepped in to rescue her! Now, Stella is ready to find a forever home or a foster family to shower her with love. Though she has a bit of arthritis (as wise pups do!), she still loves to run, play, and chase after her favorite tennis balls. She’s a perfect mix of playful and cuddly—a loyal friend who just wants a safe, loving place to call home. Could you be the one to give Stella her happily ever after? If you’re interested in adopting or fostering this sweet girl, please reach out today. Let’s find Stella the loving home she’s been waiting for! #AdoptStella #FosterMe #RescueDog #HopeForPaws

Story
Hi, I’m Donna. You wouldn’t believe my backstory if I could tell it myself. I found myself at the shelter in Bakersfield, after being removed from the shelter I was passed from one person to another, and even spent time living on a horse farm in a barn. Then, a kind woman in Ohio noticed me and reached out to a trainer with Forte. Thanks to her, I’m finally safe—and now I’m searching for my forever home. I’m a sweet and soulful girl who just wants to please. I’ll be your best travel buddy (Car rides? YES PLEASE), walk buddy, and really—your wherever-you-go buddy. I love to chill in the sun, relax at home, and go on long walks by your side. I get excited to see other dogs and I really enjoy making friends with them.  I'm also healthy and have all my vaccines. I'm getting spayed on November 17th. My life is already getting better! If you meet me, I’ll gaze right into your eyes with my big brown ones, and I think you’ll feel it too—I’m ready to be your best friend forever. ##2553741##

Story
Meet Snuffles—better known as Snuffy! A loyal and intelligent approximately seven-and-a-half-year-old Labrador Retriever, German Shepherd, and Siberian Husky mix currently living in San Francisco, CA, whose heart is as big as his 75-pound frame. With his sleek black coat and soulful eyes, Snuffles is the kind of dog who forms deep bonds with his people, always eager to please and quick to learn, especially when there are treats involved! Snuffles is a well-trained and affectionate companion who knows a variety of commands, including sit, stay, heel, and “place” (which means he’ll go straight to his crate or bed like a pro). He thrives in a structured environment and enjoys having a routine, whether that’s his morning and evening walks, backyard playtime, or simply lounging indoors by your side. Despite his size and strength, he’s more of a quiet presence—rarely barking unless there’s a reason. When it comes to his favorite pastimes, Snuffles is all about chasing tennis balls and splashing in his wading pool. He has an endearing way of tilting his head when you talk to him, as if he’s hanging on to every word, ready to be your devoted sidekick! While Snuffles is deeply devoted to his people, he is also protective of his space and has shown reactive behavior toward unfamiliar individuals entering the home. He has bitten people who attempted to pet him when he was uncomfortable, so he needs a patient, experienced caregiver who can respect his boundaries and continue working on his confidence with positive reinforcement. He is also dog-reactive and would do best as the only pet in a calm environment. Snuffles is being rehomed because his elderly guardian can no longer provide the structured environment he needs. A quiet suburban or rural home, away from the overstimulation of city life, would be ideal for him. To make sure that Snuffles has a great start with his new family, we have a canine behaviorist available for a free consultation. This strong, intelligent boy is looking for a home where he can feel safe, loved, and understood. If you have experience with protective dogs and can provide Snuffles with the structured life he needs, he will be a fiercely loyal and loving companion. Are you ready to be Snuffy’s new best friend? If so, reach out to adopt@joyfulpets.com to learn more about this special boy!

Logan was abandoned in the desert to fend for himself. He was being threatened by people who thought he was a nuisance. So we stepped up and brought this boy to safety. To my surprise, he was great with my baby Pearl and they both slept next to me all night. He is such a great dog it amazes me that someone dumped him. he does have energy and loves running around. he would love to cuddle in bed with you and be loved. He truly deserves someone who can love him.

Story
Meet Loreto! Loreto is a loyal Labrador Retriever mix from Carlsbad, CA, just over 4 years old. With his black-and-white coat, gentle heart, and playful energy, he’s ready to find a family who will cherish him. His journey began in Mexico, and while his passport may be imaginary, his heart is very real and full of love. A large boy at about 69 pounds, Loreto has settled well into home life. He is house-trained, crate-trained, and sleeps peacefully through the night (9 pm–7 am). He’s already learned “sit” and continues to pick up new skills with enthusiasm. Loreto works with a private trainer twice a week and recently passed a professional daycare assessment. His leash skills improve every day, and with a consistent routine and positive reinforcement, he’s making steady progress. His family now feeds him three meals a day, which has helped him feel more relaxed and secure. He does best in a home without cats or small animals, as his prey drive is strong and has been stressful in his current environment. The good news is that Loreto is building confidence with other dogs and may do well with a canine companion after slow introductions. His trainer has described him as not aggressive—just a dog still learning his boundaries. Loreto enjoys daily walks, ball play, and cuddle time. He does well when left alone for short periods and thrives on the comfort of a simple, steady routine. More than anything, Loreto just wants to be close to his person. He doesn’t need the spotlight—just a loving home where he can be by your side. Are you ready to welcome a dog who’s traveled far and is now searching for peace, love, and a little patience? To learn more or meet Loreto, reach out to adopt@joyfulpets.com!
