Story
Meet Hank! This guy's infectious, ear-to-ear grin is guaranteed to brighten even the gloomiest day. While he might start off a little shy, Hank warms up quickly and is a total professional on the leash, making every walk a joyful adventure. Hank is a fetch enthusiast who already knows how to "drop" on command, showing off both his smarts and his playful spirit in the yard. When one ball isn't enough, he'll try to stuff as many tennis balls in his mouth as he can manage, because why settle for one? After the games are over, he’s all about the affection, happily leaning in for cuddles and spreading joy to every new friend he meets. Hank has also done well with crating in his foster home and his Embark DNA results show he's a purebred lab!

Story
Meet Alfredo Age: 3 years (March birthday)Gender: MaleBreed: Mixed – 30% Labrador Retriever, 30% Great Pyrenees, 18% Pit Bull Terrier, and the remaining percentage made up of several other breeds (DNA results available). Why He's Looking for a New Home Alfredo was adopted through NorthWest Wag Rescue as a tiny puppy after being found in the New Mexico desert with his mom and seven siblings when he was just a day or two old. His family has loved him deeply and invested significant time into his training, enrichment, and care. After much thought, they have made the difficult decision to find him a home that better suits his needs. With two very young children, a busy neighborhood, and Alfredo's protective and anxious nature, they believe he would be happier and more successful in a calmer environment where he can thrive. This decision comes from a place of love and wanting what is best for Alfredo's future. Personality Alfredo is an incredibly loyal, affectionate companion who forms deep bonds with his people. Whether he's joining you for a long run, hiking a trail, or spending the day curled up on the couch, he's happiest simply being with his family. He loves following his people from room to room and enjoys plenty of snuggles and attention. He is naturally protective of his home and family. New visitors can make him nervous, and he'll often bark or growl from a distance initially. However, with calm introductions and a little patience, he settles in quickly and becomes a complete sweetheart who happily asks for belly rubs from people he trusts. Alfredo is sensitive to loud noises—especially fireworks—and prefers quieter environments over crowded or busy areas. He loves running around the backyard and still gets the occasional puppy zoomies. While he's not particularly interested in fetch, he enjoys chew toys, treats, and spending time with his favorite people. Behavior with People & Animals Children: Alfredo has been wonderful with the young children in his current family. However, because of his size, strength, and protective tendencies, his trainer recommends an adult-only home or one with older, dog-savvy teenagers. Dogs: Alfredo's behavior varies depending on the environment. He attends dog daycare regularly, where he happily plays with 30–50 dogs and has even boarded for multiple days without any issues. When on leash or protecting his home, he can become reactive toward other dogs. The great news is that he has made tremendous progress. His family has worked diligently with positive reinforcement, bringing treats on walks and redirecting his attention whenever another dog appears. Today, instead of immediately reacting, Alfredo often looks to his handler and eagerly waits for his reward, making walks much more manageable. Continued consistency and training will help him build on this success. Cats: Alfredo has never lived with cats. When he sees them on walks, he is interested and will typically try to move toward them. Training & Daily Life Extensive leash experience House trained and very reliable Crate trained Sleeps in his crate most nights and occasionally enjoys sleeping in bed with his family Crated when left alone for longer than an hour; free to roam for shorter outings Mild separation anxiety that has never caused destructive behavior Health Alfredo is a healthy, happy 3-year-old who takes 40 mg of Fluoxetine daily to help manage his anxiety. Aside from that, he is doing very well physically and has no other known health concerns. Alfredo's Ideal Home Alfredo would thrive as the only pet in a quiet home with an experienced owner or couple who understands anxious or protective dogs. A home with a securely fenced yard would be ideal, giving him space to run and enjoy his zoomies. He would do best outside of a densely populated neighborhood where he won't constantly encounter stressful situations. Most importantly, Alfredo is looking for someone who enjoys an affectionate, devoted companion and is willing to continue building on the training and confidence he's already gained. Strengths Extremely loving and affectionate Loyal and devoted to his family Athletic and enjoys outdoor adventures Well-trained and house-trained Crate trained Happy to relax and cuddle after exercise Has made significant progress managing leash reactivity through positive reinforcement Continuing to Work On Building confidence in new situations Managing anxiety Continuing his success with leash reactivity around other dogs Alfredo has so much love to give. In the right home—one that understands his needs and appreciates his loyal heart—he will make an incredibly devoted companion for years to come. This version highlights his progress while being transparent about the type of home he'll need, giving potential adopters confidence that he's already making meaningful improvements. Please fill out an adoption application on www.northwestwagrescue.org to be connected with his current family to find out more and meet this handsome dude.   ##2532613##
