Story
Meet Bailey and Charlie! They are both Maltese/Yorkie mixes; Bailey (the lighter colored one) is a female around age 16, and Charlie (the darker colored one) is a male around age 12-13. These two senior pups came to Husky House when their elderly owner unfortunately passed away. Bailey and Charlie are sweet, affectionate dogs who love to be pet, held, and sit in your lap. They are good with people and other dogs; they have never been cat tested, but would likely also do well with cats. Please help these sweet seniors live out their golden years in a loving home! Interested in adopting? Please visit www.huskyhouse.org today to fill out an application.August 29, 2025, 11:42 pm

Story
These two sweet brothers are five and six years old and absolutely inseparable, so they need a home where they can stay together. They love to play, keep each other company, and bring so much joy and energy to the house. They do best with supervision indoors, as they may have accidents if left alone, and they can be vocal when excited—barking at people, other pets, or even when it’s mealtime. They need someone who truly loves dogs and has plenty of time to spend with them—ideally a retired person, a stay-at-home parent, or anyone who can give them the love, patience, and attention they deserve. With the right person, they’ll be the most loyal and affectionate companions.

Story
We have a transport where we will be personally taking our dogs to their new home leaving by January 9th 2026 (could be sooner!) to the east coast from where we are located here in Southern California. Surrounding states will be added to our route as needed ☺️ We would love to add Benny to our trip for the right home/homes! As always for our adopters peace of mind we never ask for anything up front! His adoption fee, along with his adopting families share of travel costs will be due the day we arrive in person with Benny ultimately finalizing his adoption. Meet Benny 💙 Some puppies simply have “it” — that gentle spark, that intuitive sweetness, that soft, loving presence that wraps around you the moment they crawl into your arms. Benny is one of those rare little souls. Even at such a young age, he carries a calm confidence and an emotional awareness that feels far beyond his months. He came to us from a home where he was deeply loved and spoiled in the best ways, and you can feel that history in how connected he is to people. The devotion he offers is pure, immediate, and full-hearted. His journey to us was a tender one. His prior owner adored him and struggled tremendously with the decision to surrender him. A sudden breakup and the need to return to full-time work meant Benny would no longer have the companionship he was accustomed to — and she knew that wouldn’t be fair to him. She chose the selfless path, asking us to take him in and ensure he found a home where he could continue to be someone’s whole world. Because that is exactly what Benny is meant to be: a true companion, a shadow, a love-at-your-side kind of dog. He is incredibly smart — shockingly so for his age — and don’t let his size fool you. When you call “Benny!”, you hear his little paws pattering toward you from wherever he is, bursting with excitement just to be close. His heart lives for connection. And he is doing phenomenal at his house training — truly remarkable for a puppy his age. He goes outside every couple of hours to use the restroom, and due to his tiny size, he is always supervised for his safety. He’s attentive, willing, and eager to learn, which makes him such a joy in a structured home. He is a snuggler to his core, happiest pressed against your chest or curled at your side. Sleeping in bed with his person is one of the joys of his life, so if dogs in the bed aren’t your thing, he may not be the right fit. His previous owner let him be her cuddle buddy, and that comfort has shaped who he is. He’s the kind of dog who wants to wake up with his head on your pillow and fall asleep knowing you’re right there. Crates, though, are not his preference. We believe it’s the feeling of confinement — after being so bonded to his person his whole life, he simply doesn’t understand being separated or closed away. He isn’t destructive, and he isn’t mischievous; he just thrives when he’s near the people he loves. Being kept apart feels foreign to him, and we want to honor the emotional safety he has built through closeness, not separation. He LOVES his beds — so much so that we keep one in every space he spends time in. He’ll flop into them dramatically, roll on his back, or tuck himself in like a tiny burrito. In the car, he enjoys looking out the window, taking in the world with those big expressive eyes. And at the groomer? He’s an absolute dream. Being pampered suits him, and he handles grooming like a seasoned professional. Leash training hasn’t begun yet, as we needed to make sure all his vaccines were fully current before introducing him to the outside world. Now that he’s officially cleared, his new world is opening up — and with his eager-to-please personality, we have no doubt he’ll take to leash training beautifully and naturally. On the health side, Benny was born 5/22/25 and is completely current on everything age-appropriate. He has had a great full exam with our vet, is microchipped, has had his deworming based on fecal results sent to the lab, and is going home with a health certificate showing he has been fully cleared for adoption. He weighs 5.5 lbs currently and is expected to be around 10–12 lbs full grown. He is a purebred Maltese, and everything about him — his coat, his temperament, his expression — reflects the sweetness and refinement of his breed. Because he is still so young, he will be going home on a neuter contract, as it is important to allow him time to grow and mature before being fixed. What Benny needs most is someone who truly wants a companion. Someone who loves a dog that follows them from room to room, listens for their voice, and melts into their lap the moment they sit down. He thrives on closeness and emotional connection. He is eager to please, affectionate, and has one of those soft, intuitive personalities that simply makes a home feel warmer. If you’re looking for a sweet soul who will meet you at the door every day with his whole heart shining in his eyes, Benny is waiting for you. His adoption fee is on our website at the bottom of his adoption listing at https://www.breadoflifek9refuge.org/post/benny which covers all of his veterinary care to date (including vaccines, microchip/registration, fecal testing, deworming, his full exam, and his issued health certificate), as well as the months of care, meals, grooming upkeep, and training he has received with us. Every adoption directly supports our ability to continue rescuing and preparing dogs like Benny for the beautiful lives they deserve.

WISE is entirely volunteer-run and all of the donations made to our rescue go directly back to the animals in our care. By partnering with veterinary practices that support our work, we are able to save animals lives and restore them back to health. While some animals only need standard care, others require more extensive veterinary or behavioral care. Regardless of which dog you are applying for, we are looking for adopters to support our program with a minimum donation of $850. The donation may or may not be directly applied to care of the dog you're adopting but rather goes toward supporting all of the dogs in the rescue. We appreciate the understanding of our potential adopters. Please keep this in mind prior to applying.NAME: SnowballBREED: MalteseDOB: May 24, 2019 (6 years 5 months)Home Recommendation: Snowball would thrive in a gentle, patient home that can help her build confidence at her own pace. Shes quite timid and often cowers when someone approaches, but once shes in your arms, she melts right in and will peacefully fall asleep on your lap. Shes beginning to show small signs of trustlike coming forward to lick your hand before retreating againand these moments show just how much love she has to give once she feels safe. A quiet, understanding household that can offer reassurance, steady affection, and a calm environment would be the perfect match for her.WHY DID THEY COME TO WISE: Snowball spent her entire life as a breeding dog in a puppy mill. When her 'breeders' decided they no longer had a use for her, they planned to discard her. Thankfully, WISE was able to step in and rescue her. Now shes ready to start that new chapter!Personality: Snowball is an absolute cuddle bunny who wants nothing more than to be by your side. She happily sleeps in bed with her person and finds comfort just being close. If she knows youre home but not right next to her, shell let out the sweetest little howl until you returnher adorable way of asking for reassurance and company. Shes affectionate, devoted, and truly happiest when shes wrapped up in love and attention.KIDS: Yes, kids 10+DOGS: Yes, a patient dog willing to teach her the ropes on how to be playfulCATS: YesTraining: Snowball currently has a crate set up inside a pen, and while she likes to sit in her crate with the door open, being confined makes her uncomfortable. Shes still learning how to navigate the world on a leash. A harness works much better for her than anything around her neck, especially when paired with a coat that helps it fit securely. She is still figuring out both outdoor potty routines and pee-pad training. She will eat certain dog cookies if theyre placed down for her to eat. Shes very much at the beginning of her training journey and will blossom with patience, consistency, and a gentle approach.Visit WiseAnimalRescue.org to fill out an adoption application.Adoption areas include: New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Maine, Vermont, Virginia, Delaware, Maryland, the District of Columbia, Rhode Island, and New Hampshire.

She also loves spending time outdoorswhether its lounging in the yard, soaking up the fresh air, or taking leisurely walks. A home with access to a safe outdoor space or nearby parks would suit her perfectly. Overall, she would do best with someone who appreciates her sweet, gentle nature and enjoys quiet moments both inside and outside together.Personality: Mary Jane is a gentle, affectionate dog that would thrive in a calm, loving home where they can be part of the familys daily life. She adores being around people and will happily curl up for a good cuddle session at the end of the day.KIDS: YesDOGS: YesCATS: YesTraining: Mary Jane is settling in beautifully and adapting well to her new routine. She enjoys going into her crate on her own to rest or chew on her toys. Leash training is off to a great startshe doesnt pull and often walks nicely beside you, though shell continue to need guidance as she grows. House training is going very well! She reliably uses the pee pad if needed and is starting to signal when she needs to go outside, where she potties without any issue.WHY DID THEY COME TO WISE: Puppy mills overbreed to the point where they produce more dogs than they can sell. Dogs like Mary Jane were rejected for reasons ranging from birth defects, being born with the wrong color fur or eyes, or just simply because no one wanted to purchase them. When the dogs are not sold, the puppy mills destroy them, and it is legal to do so. WISE has recently partnered with a group to save these unwanted dogs - healthy, unhealthy, and/or with birth defects - who are destined to be killed for no reason.Visit WiseAnimalRescue.org to fill out an adoption application.Adoption areas include: New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Maine, Vermont, Virginia, Delaware, Maryland, the District of Columbia, Rhode Island, and New Hampshire.
