Story
We promise Tessa isn't sad... that's just her face! Tessa is a cute as can be Pug mix. We're unsure what she is mixed with, all we know for certain is that she's absolutely adorable and irresistible!. Tessa is currently between 2 and 3 years old and weighs 13 lbs. She is a bit too skinny from living on the New Mexico streets, and we are feeding her lots of extra treats in foster care. She should probably be around 16-18 lbs at a good weight.
Tessa is starting out with a very sweet and kind nature. She is very friendly, just a bit shy to start. This poor girl has had a rough start and is finally learning what it's like to be loved and cared for. Tessa was found on the streets of New Mexico, and clearly was starving and way too skinny. She then ended up in a high-kill shelter, where we rescued her from. Now she has made her way to Colorado and is in a loving foster home, figuring out that life can be good!
Tessa finds comfort in other dogs, and requires a home with another friendly dog.

"Tessa is perfect! She is so, so sweet. She started off very shy, but she's warmed up and is learning SO fast! You can tell she's never had the tlc she deserves. By day 3 home, she has started acting silly and playful!!
She's obviously had multiple litters of pups which makes me wonder how she's lived. She's not got a single mean bone in her body. She is sooooo gentle.
She is starving! And obviously underweight so I am giving her lots of extra treats.
She finds comfort in my dogs, and would thrive in a home with another dog.
She is so hungry, and was clearly starving before she was rescued. I am feeding her 3 times a day so she can gain some weight. She scarfs down her food and love love loves treats.
She has such potential! By day 2 she was already following me around the home.
Her personality is still coming out. She is mellow. Wanders around the house, just looking. She is a lovely little girl."

Tessa is so beautiful...with a stunning tricolor coat that speaks of her breed mix. Tessa's forever family will need to make a lifelong commitment to periodic baths / brushing and excellent nutrition.
We have found through our research and experience that a human grade, fresh diet is by far the best choice for a dog's long-term health as well as longevity. While it is a more expensive choice, it will result in far fewer veterinarian visits as well as a longer, healthier life. Our choice is Chi Dog (chidog.com) for the health of your best friend.
Since Tessa is just a young girl, she's a blank slate just waiting for a kind and patient human to show her the way. She has all the potential in the world to be an awesome adult companion. Tessa will form firm bonds with her family and learn positive socialization skills through virtual or in-person positive reinforcement / force-free Obedience Classes. These classes will make a profound difference in a dog's ultimate behavior and in her relationship and bonding with her people. It does take time and commitment yet pays off a thousand times over when you have a dog that can accompany you out in the world with excellent behavior.
Farfel's Rescue feel very strongly that every dog deserves the opportunity for formal, positive reinforcement / force-free training classes that are virtual or in-person. We therefore aren't willing to adopt Tessa out to a home that doesn't choose to offer her this training opportunity. Farfel's is happy to provide a list of approved positive reinforcement / force-free virtual or in-person trainers in your area.
We're open to Tessa finding her forever home with dog-crazy retirees with lots of energy to train and enjoy a silly and super-smart young dog. A younger family that works from a home-based office would also be a great choice for a dog that would love nothing more than getting loved up periodically throughout the day. Tessa enjoys her relationships with all humans and dogs. We would prefer, however, to place her in a home with older kids (tail pulling or rough treatment will create an adult dog that's fearful of children). Older kids can also be active participants in a training regimen and friendship that's so important in a dog's development.
Tessa will be up to date on her vetting / vaccinations to be in line with our commitment to only adopting out healthy dogs. She will also be spayed to stay true to our hopes for a euthanasia - free future in the canine population.
If interested in this sweet as can be best friend, applications are currently being accepted. An adoption application can be found at http://farfels.com/farfels-rescue/adoption-form/. If interested, please fill out completely and submit.
**PLEASE NOTE** If you're truly interested in adopting Tessa, please be sure to fill out our Farfel's Rescue adoption application found at the link above or at farfels.com. Adoption site applications such as Petfinder and Adoptapet don't provide enough information and therefore aren't useful. Our Farfel's application is the only initial tool that we have to determine a great match for this very deserving dog. We're sorry, but in many cases, we're unable to get back to those that don't submit our Farfel's Rescue adoption application. Thanks very much for choosing rescue.
