Location: Los Angeles, California Transportation: Ozzie and Friends Rescue coordinates safe transportation for approved adopters throughout the United States. â¤ï¸ Personality & Breed Information Calico is an adorable 1-year-old Pug weighing 18.5 pounds with a wonderfully happy-go-lucky personality. He's a cheerful young dog ready to bring plenty of smiles, companionship, and classic Pug personality to a family of his own. Calico is good with other dogs and children, while his compatibility with cats is currently unknown. At only one year old, Calico is still a young dog. He's moved beyond the tiniest puppy stage, but he still has plenty of youthful energy, curiosity, and learning ahead of him. He's at a great age for a family that wants a playful young companion they can continue training and build a life with. Pugs are companion dogs through and through. They may be affectionate, playful, charming, social, funny, and deeply attached to their people. Many would rather be right in the middle of family life than left on the sidelines. Calico's happy-go-lucky nature fits right in. He would benefit from: Daily walks and appropriate exercise Playtime and interactive toys Mental enrichment Positive-reinforcement training Continued socialization Consistent household routines Plenty of affection and family time Calico isn't looking for a complicated life. He wants people to love, things to do, and a home where he gets to be part of the family. Training, Adjustment & What to Expect At one year old, Calico will benefit from continued training and clear, consistent household routines. Rescue dogs may arrive with basic training at best, so his adopter should be prepared to continue working on house training as needed, leash manners, basic commands, recall, calm greetings, and household boundaries. Training should always use positive reinforcement, patience, and consistency. Short, enjoyable training sessions can provide both mental stimulation and an opportunity for Calico to strengthen his relationship with his new family. Calico should be allowed to settle into his new life at his own pace. Owner Responsibilities & Veterinary Care Calico's neuter, vaccination, and microchip status have not been provided. His complete medical history should be reviewed with his future veterinarian. As a Pug, Calico also has some important breed-specific needs. Pugs are a brachycephalic, or short-nosed, breed, which can make them less tolerant of heat and strenuous exercise. His family should: Avoid strenuous activity during hot or humid weather Provide plenty of fresh water and access to cool indoor areas Never leave him unattended in a hot car or other warm enclosed space Watch for excessive panting or difficulty breathing Keep him at a healthy weight to reduce unnecessary strain on his breathing and joints Discuss any breathing, eye, skin-fold, or mobility concerns with his veterinarian His ongoing care should also include routine wellness examinations, vaccinations and boosters as recommended, neutering if not already completed, parasite prevention, dental care, quality nutrition, nail care, and veterinary treatment whenever necessary.
