Raya is a charming 5-year-old, 10 lb. rat terrier and Chihuahua mix with a big personality and a resilient spirit. While she carries a few old scars from a past we'll never know, her sweet heart is fully focused on the future. Raya is a vocal, schedule-loving girl who will endearingly let you know when it's time for meals or activities. Out on walks, she can be a bit barky when passing people or dogs, but she is highly treat-motivated and easily redirected with a tasty snack. When introduced to a resident cat, she showed no interest, so she could potentially live with a dog-savvy cat. Because of a history of painful bowel movements, Raya is currently on a low dose of prednisone (about $10/month). She is doing very well on the medication and has a routine follow-up appointment scheduled to determine whether any ongoing treatment will be needed. Raya loves to be the center of your universe and prefers to have her space respected, so she will thrive best as the only pet in an adult-only home with no other dogs where she can soak up all the love and attention without having to share her humans. She needs a patient, loving adopter who appreciates her routine-driven nature and can offer a predictable, devoted environment. Meet Gemma. Part couch potato, part tiny queen, part weather critic. Gemma is a 9-year-old Rat Terrier mix with a soft heart, a love of routine, and extremely strong opinions about wet grass. If the lawn is damp, she will do everything in her power to avoid touching it — a level of dramatic commitment that her foster both respects and fears. At home, Gemma is affectionate, loyal, and happiest curled up beside her people enjoying a quiet day indoors. She loves snacks, cuddles, calm environments, and getting your full attention. Her foster says she has the sweetest little whine when she wants more affection, which is often because Gemma firmly believes cuddling is a full-time job. She’s crate trained, low energy, walks nicely on leash, and gets along well with calm dogs and cats. Excitable dogs who invade her personal space, however, are not her thing. Gemma prefers a peaceful home where everyone respects boundaries — especially during mealtime. She does guard her food and needs a family who will simply feed her separately and leave her alone while she eats. With that easy management in place, Gemma settles beautifully into home life. LOCAL ADOPTION ONLY. Peabody is a 2-year-old Rat Terrier mix (we think). He was pulled into our rescue from an over-crowded, rural, KY shelter because he was not tolerating the environment well and was shut down. He was terrified when first arriving at his fosters home. It took time…but not much. We have video evidence that he is a Velcro mix. He likes dogs about his size, but gets passive-aggressive with bigger dogs. Meaning he runs his mouth. He would have no problem with another, playful dog or being the one-and-only. He likes to watch TV on the couch, beside you, with his eyes closed. He will be the big spoon every night and knows how to fit perfectly into the small of your back. Peabody will likely need the expected 3 days to decompress in a new environment. But once he has stopped fretting, he’ll be melting like butter in your lap. We think Peabody needs to find that doesn’t require transport, so applications must be local to TN.
