Name: Gabe Best Guess for Breed: Jack Russell terrier and beagle mix Best Guess for Age: 2 years as of April 2024 SEX: Male Approximate Weight: 16 lbs Gets Along With: Other dogs! We haven't seen him with kids or cats but he can be tested Currently Living at: South Carolina shelter; needs a foster or forever home in the DC area! Special adoption considerations: Gabe is heartworm positive, but this Lucky Dog got extra lucky! They are part of a groundbreaking study we are conducting at our South Carolina Rescue Campus that has the potential to change the way shelters across the United States treat heartworm positive dogs. All dogs in the study will be placed at random, in either the 2 shot or 3 shot protocol with strictly monitored protocols in place. Four weeks following their final injection, this pup will be eligible to transport to the DC area for placement in foster or adoptive care. Post treatment, we will work with adopters to arrange a free follow up heartworm test 6 months after treatment concludes, followed by a second test at 9 months. Gabe is Looking For: His forever family! This cutie, through no fault of his own, landed in the shelter. He's looking forward to his new chapter, eagerly awaiting all the sniffy walks (that beagle in him!) he will get with his new humans, romps in the park, and all the adventures they can dream up. He's out of the puppy yips and as a wise, experienced dog, knows what's most important in life: Being safe and loved and under his own roof, and that's right at the top of his wish list. In exchange, he offers all the adoring gazes and happy tail wags he's stockpiling at the shelter - lots of laughs at his doggy antics - and loyal companionship for all his days. What do you say?
