Layla can be a bit shy when meeting new people, but with patience and kindness you’ll quickly see her true personality shine. Once she feels safe, her sweet, submissive nature will blossom, making her an easy girl to love. She’s not a barker, so would be okay for apartment/condo living, but she gets distracted with city activity and might do better in a quieter area.     Layla's favorite things are belly rubs and other dogs! She enjoys canine companionship and would likely thrive in a home with a friendly doggy buddy to help her continue building confidence. Layla is a special little gem who is searching for a caring family that will give her the love, security, and patience she deserves. Could you be the one to show Layla what forever truly means?  Apply today!  Your new pet will require a refresher in house-training. K-9 Lifesavers strongly recommends all new adopters enroll their new pet into obedience training. This provides for an easier transition into a new home, ensures the dog remains well socialized, and helps form a bond between the dog and the new family.    Adoption fees cover basic vetting, rabies (if puppy is old enough), distemper/parvo vaccinations, deworming, monthly heartworm prevention while in our care (if old enough), monthly flea/tick prevention while in our care, and transport costs. K-9 Lifesavers will also cover the cost of spay/neuter at our partner vet at 6 months of age or reimburse adopter for up to the amount of our partner vet cost should you choose to spay/neuter at your own vet.Foster Program:    Foster homes provide for the temporary care of a rescue until the dog is placed into a loving, forever home.  For more information on becoming a foster parent, and our Foster Program, visit http://www.k-9lifesavers.org/foster/ or email our Foster Coordinator at foster@k-9lifesavers.orgSPONSOR ME! Help Save Lives!    Make a tax-deductible donation today and help save a life. Now that her babies are off to begin their new lives, it's finally her turn to be spoiled, cherished, and loved the way she deserves.  This precious little lady is as sweet as they come. She can be a bit shy when meeting new people, but give her a little time and you'll soon find her happily curled up in your lap. Once she trusts you, she's an affectionate, devoted companion who simply wants to be close to her people.  She would do best with kids over 10. Dolly Belle gets along wonderfully with big dogs and would fit right into a home with canine companions or be perfectly happy as your one-and-only. At her ideal small size, she's easy to scoop up for snuggles, take along on adventures, or simply enjoy as your constant sidekick. She also has a medium energy level, walks beautifully on a leash, and is just as content with a leisurely stroll as she is relaxing at home by your side. Story
Best friend Buddy is the total package. He loves people and greets everyone, always eager for attention.   At 12, Buddy ended up in a rural Tennessee shelter. We do not know his backstory or why such a sweet boy would land in a shelter. We may never know.     At Critter Cavalry, we adore seniors and believe they deserve every chance to find a loving home. You won’t regret considering Buddy—he loves everyone, whether human or animal. Buddy is everyone’s best friend.     Buddy is healthy for a senior. He has limited sight and hearing, but is otherwise in good shape. He navigates his foster home easily and enjoys exploring the fenced yard. He comes when called—just use a louder voice.   Buddy is ready to retire with a couple eager to add him to their family. He’d love a fenced yard to explore—size isn’t important—and an active retirement with short walks and car rides. He will be a wonderful addition to a family that matches his lifestyle.   If you want a new best friend, Buddy is perfect for you. To learn more about adopting him, contact Vivienne at vivienneajames@gmail.com or 615-943-7311. Approved application and adoption fee required.    July 13, 2026, 5:45 pm

Story
Meet Gemma. Part couch potato, part tiny queen, part weather critic. Gemma is a 9-year-old Rat Terrier mix with a soft heart, a love of routine, and extremely strong opinions about wet grass. If the lawn is damp, she will do everything in her power to avoid touching it — a level of dramatic commitment that her foster both respects and fears. At home, Gemma is affectionate, loyal, and happiest curled up beside her people enjoying a quiet day indoors. She loves snacks, cuddles, calm environments, and getting your full attention. Her foster says she has the sweetest little whine when she wants more affection, which is often because Gemma firmly believes cuddling is a full-time job. She’s crate trained, low energy, walks nicely on leash, and gets along well with calm dogs and cats. Excitable dogs who invade her personal space, however, are not her thing. Gemma prefers a peaceful home where everyone respects boundaries — especially during mealtime. She does guard her food and needs a family who will simply feed her separately and leave her alone while she eats. With that easy management in place, Gemma settles beautifully into home life. She’s also not a fan of being picked up, so her ideal adopter will understand that love sometimes means meeting a dog where they’re comfortable and letting trust build naturally. Because of this, Gemma is looking for an adult-only home without children where she can feel safe, understood, and relaxed. Gemma is looking for a quiet, stable home with soft places to nap, predictable routines, and people who appreciate a slightly opinionated little dog with a huge capacity for love. We just welcomed 9 year 13 lb female rat terrier mix Gemma. Fostered in Gaithersburg, MD Please apply at mirishaven.org

Story
Do you like fuzzy dogs?  Minie is the girl for you!  This happy playful girl is just over one year old and 28 pounds. She came to PAW labeled as Border Collie, but her foster thinks she is more Jack Russell Terrier mixed with some kind of retriever that gives her a beautiful coat. In her foster home, she has two dogs to play with--and she loves to play. She would probably do best in a home where she has another resident dog, and a fenced-in yard where she can run. Minnie does great in the home.  When she tires out from all that play, she loves to lie in your lap or on your foot. She will "follow you around and will lean into you or attempt to sit on part of you if you are still," says her foster. She wants to be with her person/people all of the time! She trusts her person and will let him/her take things from her that she shouldn't have. Minnie loves her toys and will run around the house with them, chewing them, tossing them in the air, and bringing them to her foster to engage.  She loves to chew and an assortment of hard chew toys keep her happily occupied. While she is great in the home she is not great on walks.  When on leash she tends to bark and lunge at things that move..  She is very smart and motivated by treats, so she's been quick to learn and she wants to please - but she will need someone willing to work on training and who can walk her in the woods or more quiet places.  Minnie would do well in a home where she can be walked with regularity and given playtime and training. Her foster believes that she wold be fine with respectful kids over five-years old.  Minnie can be afraid of a quick approach, and needs a stable and calm home, one in which she can feel safe. That being said, she warms up quickly and then sweetly trusts. Minnie has visited the foster's neighbor, who has a cat, and although it was sleeping upstairs Minnie sniffed all of the cat stuff (beds, scratch pads, etc) with casual interest…..far different than the fixed, assertive stance she takes when near the scent of a squirrel, so she may be able to cohabitate with felines, but we are not yet sure. Minnie is a fun dog to be around. She is very agile, and can leap and run, so she is a perfect candidate for agility training. If you want a loving, energetic companion, Minnie is the perfect dog for you. PAW adopts in the MD, northern VA, DC, southern PA region. ##2627837##

Story
Pollywog is a young, 20-pound 4yo sweetheart with a playful spirit and an even bigger heart. She loves walks, car rides, exploring new places, and making friends wherever she goes. At just 20 pounds, she's the perfect size for almost any home—and whether she's romping with another dog or curled up beside her favorite person, Pollywog is happiest when she's sharing lifes adventures with someone she loves. Pollywog enjoys playing with other dogs and would likely love a canine companion to help show her the ropes. She's blossoming in her foster home, gaining confidence and learning good manners by following the lead of her foster brother. She's treat-motivated, learning commands like "sit" and "down" and making great progress with gentle reminders that playtime shouldn't include puppy teeth. She also loves chew toys, earrubs, brushing sessions, and just about any attention you're willing to give. Pollywog is crate trained, sleeps quietly through the night, and is doing great with her house training. She's learning to let her foster family know when she needs to go outside and hasn't had an overnight accident in her foster home. Her favorite place to be is close to her people—or her dog buddy—and she'll happily follow you from room to room like your own little shadow. Pollywog is looking for a family who will continue building her confidence with consistency, patience, and lots of love. In return, you'll get an affectionate, playful companion who's always ready for the next adventure—or the next cuddle. PAW adopts in the MD, northern VA, DC, and southern PA region. ##2743433##
